NHL 15/16

Sad story indeed. I thought he would've respected the final year on his contract, Red Wings are stuck with $7,5m on their salary cap as well next year because of that.

Looking forward to the playoffs. 'Hawks always seem to playa against the Blues at some point, but I'm confident we'll put them away even though our form has been disastrous as of late.

Shame about Pavel. Would be great if he won the cup after this, but he won't, because the Wings are garbage. It seemed like they did everything they could to make a mess of making the playoffs, and still made the playoffs.

For the 25th consecutive season, that's a very impressive accomplishment imo.

I fecking love you Patrick Kane!

That's probably it, how to blow a lead in 1Q :( Tarasenko is a hell of a playet tough.

Fecking hell it's 4AM and I can't take it anymore.

If we win tonight can the Oilers lay claim to a dynasty when it comes to lottery wins??

Not only did it not happen. Edmonton dropped out the Top 3 altogether. justice has been done

It's rigged, we want to challenge the system, how dare we not win.... Perhaps now people will stop harping on about last year and realise how lucky we were to win it. Also perhaps with a turn of luck in the lottery, we might have a turn of luck on the ice. We may be able to stay healthy for once.

Didn't think the Pens (without Letang) were able to do this to the Caps who looked like the best team in the league all season long. Looks like Ovi has to wait at least another year for a chance to win the Cup.

If the Bolts proceed and get Stamkos back in the near future, they'll be a scary opponent for whichever team will face them.

The Caps fluffing their lines in the playoffs. Some things just never change. I was really rooting for them as well. It looks bleak for them now.

I figured the Stars were finished after losing Game 5 at home without much of a fight put forth. But they went out and dominated the first period and held on to win Game 6 on the road despite being outplayed for 40-45 minutes.

Game 7 is lining up to be a classic winner-take-all.

So glad the Blues beat the Stars, as much as I would have liked to have seen Ales Hemsky win a cup, he alone wasn't enough for me to cheer for the Dallas. That win also means that Calgary can only claim a second round draft pick off the Stars, instead of a first as part of the Russell trade. Not at all sure where the cup's going to go, the finals are quite evenly matched.

The Blues are the best team remaining. Hope they make their first Stanley Cup appearance! They're the oldest team in the league to have never won the cup. It would be good for the city after losing the NFL franchise to Los Angeles.

Wouldn't mind Crosby & Co. winning another Cup or the Blues raising their first one ever. Lightning are likeable as well, just don't hope it's the Sharks.

Very impressed with Hagelin-Bonino-Kessel this playoffs.

Rooting for the East winner, preferably the Pens. I've always had a soft spot for them after my grandma wrote their organization around 1990/1991 and in return they sent me an autographed Mario Lemieux picture. This was a couple years before Dallas stole the North Stars from Minnesota and gave us Texans/southwesterners a club to root for.

Sharks are off to their first ever Stanley Cup Finals, I'd much rather have the Blues there but oh wel..

Hoping for a Pens win tonight, still tied up halfway through the first right now. Stammer with a limited impact on the game so far, which is only normal of course.

I have no favorite teams in NHL, but I was happy to see Sharks make it to the finals as they play with tremendous speed and could make a tough match-up with whoever makes it through tonight. SJ also have great depth in offence, something STL definitely lacked.

Rooting for Tampa for some reason, but I’m just happy that there will be a Finnish Stanley Cup winner again.

I like Maatta a lot, he's been unfortunate with injuries so far in his career though.

Malkin close to an opening goal twice now.

Yeah quite a common story, a few hits in the head especially can ruin a career, just ask Eric Lindros. Määttä was good in Game 6, which was nice to see. A calm head for a 21-year old, plays well in both ends of the rink. What’s your relationship with hockey, just curious presuming you’re from Belgium, where hockey’s not that big? :)

Nothing in particular, I started betting on hockey games a couple of years ago and gradually got into it - the intensity, pace and unpredictability of it is very enjoyable imo. But yeah, there is some NBA and NFL coverage in Belgium but literally nothing on the NHL, which is a shame really. I have to make do with crappy streams most of the times which is hard enough just to follow the puck around, but I manage quite alright :D

Aye, can imagine  Watching hockey via streams feels so useless for me, as you can miss a goal if the stream stops for two seconds  Yeah it’s an intense game, especially play offs, Olympics & World Cup are worth watching. My team Jokerit (KHL) in Helsinki actually just signed a 17-year old Belgian goalie, Wouter Peeters. Came out of the blue 100%. KHL’s another league well worth watching, a bit less physical than NHL but by far the 2nd best league in the world.

1-0 for Penguins.

Shots 31-13 for Pens, they seem to not give anything away, although the Bolts have started 3rd pretty brightly.

The Pens have had a handful of breakaways and have been unable to put one away.

Yeah, could come back and bite them. Murray’s been really good again, the kid seems so calm. A compact 55mins so far for the Pens, deserve to go through if they can keep it up for the last mins.

Sharks vs Pens it is then. Going to be good, high-paced finals for sure. Pens’ 2-3 lines have an important job to keep Sharks’ deep offensive roster under control. Two great power plays, too - can’t see that many penalties either way though. Both goalies have been good, defense in Sharks’ favour.

Not who I thought would be in the finals at the start of the season. They weren't even my picks at the start of the playoffs. Hope they take it to game 7.

Agree, it's good for the sport though, shows that it's no use leading the regular season if you can't peak when you're supposed to. A 7-games series would be awesome, would like to see Sharks win it just to see a new team lifting the cup.

Not fan of the Sharks (or any of the California teams for that matter) so.. Go Penguins.

Penguins definitely deserved the win, outshot Sharks by 41 to 26. Still, a quite even affair and typically for playoffs, a small thing led to the winning goal as Burns lost his stick at his own end. Looking forward to a tight series, min 6 games will be played, I think.

Yay Pens, happy with that. Think the Sharks will grab game 2 though.

Game 2 was a more of an even affair than the opener, but the Penguins deserved this one, too. Small margins, but Pens took better care of the puck and Sharks ended up playing way too big of a chunk of the game at their own end. Sharks’ D had a poor game, they were a couple of steps behind all game long. They have to move the puck quicker from their own zone and get the puck to their offense to wear the Pens down. Right now SJ are tired when they eventually get the puck and all they achieve with it is a shift change. Sharks hit the post a few times and they did put an okay effort in, but the current level is simply not good enough. They improved as the game went on which is a good sign though. The puck’s not bouncing their way and you can see the frustration growing within their star roster, mainly Thornton & Burns.

Far from over, but it’s looking good for the Pens at the moment. The big players in Crosby, Malkin, Kessel, Letang and Murray all had a solid game while you can’t really say the same of Sharks’ counterparts. Their whole defence was under pressure and crumbled, Burns playing one of his worst games in the playoffs thus far. Still hoping to see a long series but Sharks really need to turn it up a notch for that to happen. Whether they have that in ‘em, is another matter.

Couture whining about the fact that Sid 'cheats' at faceoffs  Petty loser it seems, everyone does exactly the same to win draws. He just beat Ward to it, nothing to say about that anymore.

Excited for the game, Sharks really need a win tonight. Never say never because I can vaguely remember them coming back from a 0-3 deficit last year or two years ago but still, I can't see them recover this time against these sharp and quick Pens if they lose game 3.
