NFL Thread 2019

Great tackling used to be one of the hallmarks of Seahawks defence but... this one doesn’t seem to be quite there yet.
Really isn't. We started ok on defence, particularly the first Rams drive where we forced a field goal despite terrible starting field position but as the game wore on, the Rams had their way with us helped by us failing to get a single sack. At least we started using a nickelback some of the time.

I give up.

At least the gameplan gave Wilson a chance to drag us to victory, wasn't like the Cowboys playoff game. Small mercies.

I don't think they've learnt anything from that loss. They had 43 rushing attempts and 23 pass attempts. Tells you everything IMO. Especially that sequence before the half, when Myers missed the field goal was indicative. I wouldn't even complain as much, if we had the Bears/Bills/Jaguars/Patriots defence and a better offensive line for example. I don't think Pete's game plan is working without a defence like that and a better offensive line, but he's still trying to get wins like he has that, instead of working with what he's got.

They certainly haven't learnt enough and I agree about the final drive in the first half and the lack of adjustment to our personnel. That said, I don't think those attempt stats tell you everything. For starters, Wilson had 8 rushing attempts recorded and I don't think any were scripted QB runs (the 3rd & 2 one was an option but I think that counts as Lockett), add in the Dissly run on another scramble and that puts it closer to a 50/50 split between pass plays called and run plays called. Then there's the timing, against Dallas what hurt was that we were run first through three quarters and mostly just let Wilson throw on 3rd and long until it was the fourth quarter where it finally sank in that the run wasn't working, too late for Wilson to do anything other than make the final score more respectable. Yesterday they were far quicker to adjust after the first two drives failed and only went back to run heavy in the fourth quarter when we wanted to kill some time (our final TD drive took 7 minutes) and the running game was much more effective than against Dallas, especially in the fourth. It's still frustrating because this team is capable of more if we shift to a league average ratio of pass:run but there was a little bit of improvement - from pure shit to diluted shit I guess.

They are using the base defence way too much. It starts out well early in games (Clowney wreaks havoc in the first quarter), then the opponents adjust and they get pummelled for the rest of the game.

I can’t really say anything (not a professional coach) because it seems to be kind of working(?), but we’ll see how it turns out as the season goes.

Seahawks probably have the worst play calling in the league currently. They are winning because of Wilson and despite their coaches.

Stats based on 4 Games against different Opposition are meaningless, very hard to Interpret.

The Rams look lost at times. Their offence revolved around play action but they’ve gone away from the run game, or at least have much less success there - which in turn has a consequence on their play action game.

On defence though, it’s amazing how they give up so many points with the defence they have. It has weaknesses but there are far worse units which don’t seem to leak like they do.

Can’t see them getting deep in the play offs unless they fix the obvious problems.

Yeah, that's been really odd. Even when we reduced the time spent in base defence for this game, still used it 55% of the time.

The Seahawks are exactly what I would love to see the Vikings be on the field but there is one small issue.:(

Looking forward to see how the spurs ground looks with NFL taking centre stage.

So apparently the Broncos won't trade Von Miller, but "everyone else" is potentially available.

I assume that just means vets, and not the talented youngsters we have, so probably see Sanders and Harris Jr playing for someone else in the near future.

if you’re in tank mode, surely you make your biggest asset available for the right price?!

We'd have to eat about $20m in dead money cap hit, and he's the face of the franchise, it makes sense that he's not even being considered as a trade option.

ffs... tbf Gostowski’s missed one every game as well
I know, just found it funny that you moved him to IR due to all the misses and the new guy misses his first one. Won't exactly matter, Washington will be obliterated even if your kicker misses everything.

Wasn't the NFL pitch supposed to be retractable? Can see the Penalty box markings.
