NFL Thread 2019

Foolish to talk 1 and done with the patriots. They will find a way , they always do

Usually I would agree but there is nothing on offense & looks like we have another injury with the O-line. A very limited run game, kicker issues & no x-factor in the passing game means we are extremely limited if the D can’t hold teams to under 17 points.

If we lose to the Chiefs then we’d be 0-3 against the toughest opponents in the AFC. Not very promising looking ahead to the playoffs.

It wouldn’t be the first time the Pats looked meh during the season and raised their game in the playoffs.

Yeah, but what is about that guy nobody knows they'll claim from someones practice squad, who'll score two TD's in the championship game and then inevitably vanishes from the face of the earth? They always find a way. Even if Edelman has to lead them in TD passes.

Hard to say what will happen with the Pats. They have been in similar situations in the past and raised their game to compensate for continuity gaps in a particular area. This year, the D is especially good, which may prove enough to compensate for Brady’s lack of rhythm with this year’s receivers.
Yes we often do. But usually the types of issues we are seeing are early season. Not near the end. It is very different to previous years, and it’s just a bit basic to assume because it’s the Pats it’ll get fixed. It might, but let’s be real this is different to previous seasons.

Beyond losing Gronk, what do you think the main issue is ?

We have a number.

1. Out offensive line has constantly chopped and changed due to injuries. I feel pass protection is doubly important this year because ...

2. Brady’s relationship with receivers isn’t there. With our offence, it isn’t always having the best receivers but specific receivers who can run certain routes and have a chemistry with Brady. We are missing the Chemistry, and missing the type of production Hogan and Amendola provided to complement Edelman.

3. Vastly overlooked but losing Develin has crushed our run game. Links to ever changing o-line too but this is a key loss.

4. Add in the fact that Brady isn’t performing at his best.

I think we will improve on offence but some of the above is not fixable at this stage of the season.

Pass protection definitely seems a bit suspect this year. Letting opposing defenders get their hands on your 42 year old QB is going to have a ripple effect on his pocket presence and general passing. For much of yesterday it seemed like he was out of sync with various receivers (capped by his sideline rant).

Still, this is a Belichick team and I expect them to raise their game as the playoffs approach. The Chiefs game will be a harbinger of how things will go.

I'm still gutted about losing to the Ravens last night, but don't think it was a poor performance. At least we have a winning season for the first time since 2013 iirc.

Lamar Jackson is something else, that running game is unreal.

I thought they contained Lamar as well as possible. Still he got over 100 yards rushing in a torrential downpour.

I actually don’t think Brady’s performance has dropped this year, looks like his usual self to me

Like I said, I foresee improvement. But I just think usually, it’s fine tuning and refining our playoff identity. The pieces are usually there. This year, our problems run deeper. I’d love to be pleasantly surprised, but I’m not holding much hope.

If I was a 49ers fan, I would be quite positive after that performance. Other top defences have gotten slaughtered by that ravens offence. Not saying they got stuffed, but they were much more contained than what other teams have managed. This ravens attack is incredibly unique. But it’s only a matter of time until someone figures out a way to stifle their rhythm a bit.

Oh don’t get me wrong, I’m really positive. We look like a growing team and it’s been a joy to watch, I mean we’ve lost 2 games, both by just a field goal and we missed a field goal in overtime against the Seahawks.

Always knew the Seahawks were good and Carroll knows what he is doing.

The Superbowl winner is coming from the NFC
Not so sure about that. This is as wide open as I can remember. Possibly as many as six teams have a shot. SF, New Orleans and Seattle from the NFC and Pats, Ravens and Chiefs from the AFC.

I think there are a lot of positives we can take from that. I really think we should have ended the first half stronger and thrown the dice a bit with regard to the clock, rather than start the drive with no apparent confidence that we would be able to gain any territory. It almost seemed to surprise us that we did, but by then we had wasted too much time to try and get closer for the FG - or even potentially break a play and get a TD.

I think our defence did very well overall - as you said other very proficient defences have been taken apart. I will say I think we played the RB too much on the option plays. I know if you focus on Lamar, then he will hand it off on the option lays, but given the choice between dealing with their RB inside the hashmarks, versus dealing with Lamar running on the outside, I know which one I would feel more comfortable defending.

The Superbowl winner isn't coming from the NFC East
FTFY. The race is literally as open as can be... The best team in the NFL right now seems to be coming from the AFC.

Its open yes and i don't rule out the Packers either . I think it will be either Packers Saints or Seahawks

Only real complaint is we could have kept that more comfortable, at 34-17 it should have been safe so naturally they forget to cover a WR and then the offense starts fumbling yet again.

I think it's interesting that head coaches like Tomlin needed to lose some star players first before people could see how good they actually are. Honestly, everyone laughed at the Steelers for that Fitzpatrick trade but it turned out phenomenaly and Tomlin has them in a playoff spot with an undrafted rookie QB, without his star RB and star WR. Remarkable job all in all.

I'd say it's the same for Carroll but he still makes some boneheaded decisions almost every game. There were even calls as recent as last season for Harbaugh to be fired, which is ridiculous in hindsight.

Yeah, we don't do winning comfortably.

I think if we meet them in the Super Bowl we should do what Ravens did to Kap in 2013-if my memory is correct Suggs was hitting Kap on pretty much every play-like Lamar is now (though Lamar is more dynamic) he was so active in the run game. Just blast him. Tackle everyone  (easier said than done!) You don’t want to see an exciting player like that injured but as a potential opponent you hit him enough and he’s gotta slow down eventually.

On Sunday however really what we did worked pretty well. Yes the rain was a factor but it was a factor for both teams offensively-in better weather how Deebo was matching up he could have had great joy. What a player that kid is!

I have actually come out of both losses this season thinking our team is even better than when we went in. Seahawks MNF was so frustrating but it was a hard hitting game between two good teams! Ravens have been running over everybody for weeks so we showed how tough our D is. I think shanahan tried to be too clever on 4&1 sadly. He’ll learn from it. I hope.

Not sure who will win the super bowl. Ravens are looking really good compared to rest of the AFC but Pats in the playoffs are, well, Pats in the playoffs and I think Chiefs might be motoring by then.

NFC will be really interesting. The two West teams can beat anyone, Saints in the super dome won’t be fun for anyone. Don’t think Vikings are quite there but who knows. Packers will be hoping someone else takes care of the 49ers

In the east, Eagles run in is laughably weak so they should be embarrassed if they don’t finish first, but I don’t think they’ll get past whichever West team they will probably have to play

Have Seahawks had a boring/comfortable game this year?

The first Cardinals game is the only one. Wasn't pretty either, if I remember it correctly.
Great value for money this season though. It kind of reminds me of the 2012/13 season when United were winning ever game 3-2. I guess Wilson is RVP in that analogy

Yeah, that's our only win by more than 1 score. It definitely wasn't pretty but I'd take a repeat when we play them week 16. Rams and Panthers next up, can't wait to see how we make Goff and Kyle Allen look great just to make it uncomfortably close.

On one hand, that's not surprising. He took defensive playcalling on last season and they've been appalling this season. Losing Kawann Short and Dontari Poe didn't help, but especially their rushing defense was just dreadful. He's fired after they allowed 250 rushing yards to the fecking Redskins of all teams, who averaged less than 90 rushing yards/game before last weekend.

On the other hand, he had an undrafted QB playing pretty well and seemed to turn things around during that stretch but ever since Allen regressed to the mean (which coincided with placing Newton on IR, curiously) they've just fallen apart. If they move on from Newton they need to start over at QB so I can't really see a quick turnaround for the franchise at the moment.
