NFL Thread 2019

Going to be close.

Also got the advantage of the score. Games done so they can give him loads of passing opportunities

(Edit. Well I cursed that??)
It was a disadvantage that it became a blowout - if the Cards could keep up, they would’ve needed Goff to throw even more than he did now.

Bill Cowher was right at HT. Game felt like Rivers is on his way out for good and Lock is on his way into long career.

Game wasn't really as close as the final score line suggests, but I'd like us to try and close out games a bit more aggressively. We let them come too close for comfort after stuffing the Pats offense for the most part of the game.

The Pats really need to find another gear on offense if they wanna be relevant in January. Can't see them winning against the Ravens or the Chiefs with their improved defense, and now even the Texans prove they can be beaten if their defense isn't as suffocating as they were in the beginning of the season against bad teams. They still have the bye and home-field advantage in the Divisional round so far but they travel to Arrowhead next game which is a game I can't see them winning how they're playing right now. Luckily for them the Bills have the Ravens next week otherwise, but their Week 16 game which could be a huge game if the Bills are only one game behind at that time. I don't know who holds the tiebreaker if they'd be tied in the division since it would come down to best winning percentage against common teams.

Pats will be 1-and-done come playoffs. You shouldn’t bet against Brady & BB but this year we have been deceptively good & fortunate in the close wins.

Still looks like they have homefield in their first game.

That’s fair enough!

I was worried about this 3 game stretch to be honest. Given how we brutalised Rodgers and really turned in a good showing today (thanks) I’m feeling optimistic coming out of a loss. We’re just a nightmare for pocket passers. My hope was 2-1 in this stretch and a good showing today:frustrating end yeah especially with that 4th down stop but I texted my Ravens cousin at half time and said this game was bolstering both teams’ credentials as much as anything.
Agree with you - I saw us going 1-2 in this 3 game stretch - but actually think we will beat the Saints next week.

I think we handled the Ravens fairly well. I wasn't happy about how we ended the first half - we have 3 TOs but didn't seem in any rush to use them. Given how well we were running the ball, and how effectively, we could have gotten much closer for the FG IMO.

But I think both teams showed they are legitimate contenders and I wouldn't be surprised if this matchup was seen again in the Super Bowl.

Our record is grossly misleading.

Many times I feel the strength of schedule is an unfair criticism of us (given we tend to still play well against the good teams we play and in the playoffs, but this year there’s no two ways about it.

Good defence? Yes for sure. But overly hyped based on stats vs not even mediocre offences at the time of playing them.

Our offence is completely out of sync. Brady has no chemistry with receivers and truth be told, I do feel there is some tangible regression there. But hard to quantify how much of each. Mind, seeing our offence this year does put to bed the whole system vs Brady debate somewhat.

I agree with @ha_rooney - we are a one and done team and the only way we aren't is if we put together a good game, at home. Even then, I can’t see us competing with the Ravens and Chiefs home or away, and there’s plenty of teams who would be a challenge for us to overcome at home.

Hard to say what will happen with the Pats. They have been in similar situations in the past and raised their game to compensate for continuity gaps in a particular area. This year, the D is especially good, which may prove enough to compensate for Brady’s lack of rhythm with this year’s receivers.

They could wind up the 3 seed at this point
I don’t see this happening if I’m honest, just because if our record ends up low enough to be third seed I think Seahawks will be ahead of us anyway and we’ll be 5th seed. though I suppose if Saints beat us and we win out our games we would be 13-3. You then need Vikings to win all their games to also be 13-3 (NFC East is nailed on 4th seed so out of the equation) since we have the tiebreaker vs Packers (so if they end up 13-3 with us, we are ahead of them and they’re the third seed). If Vikings end up 13-3 then Seattle either go 13-3 (and no matter what finish ahead of us as best we could do would be 13-3 and would have lost twice to them) or...don’t and we have some breathing room.

in the case of a 49ers-Vikings equal record it comes down to permutations I don’t feel like doing this early-which I guess could see us as 3rd seed, it just feels less likely.

So I think we’ll either be 1 or 2 seed (where we probably/surely need to beat Seahawks and then 1/2 is decided on the Saints game) , or 5th seed (a few circumstances could see Seattle pip us). If we’re 12-4 or lower I think Seahawks end up ahead of us anyway.

Agree with all that. Also the 4th &1 at the end was odd. Looked like we were lining up to run before the timeout. An obvious play sure but sometimes things are obvious for a reason. Shanahan outthinking himself sometimes. Similar to 2017 super bowl with Atlanta. Or the Seahawks passing from the one yard line in 2015 vs Pats. I was pissed off after the Seahawks game but yesterday I went in with low expectations and despite the disappointing defeat was encouraged by a lot about our performance.

Saints in their place is always tough but I just don’t see a pocket passer beating us this year. You obviously never know with Drew being drew but given what we did to Packers last week... meanwhile Seahawks game was such a perfect storm for them to beat us, you put in any one player we were missing and worst case scenario it’s a tie in that game imo. Or at least next time I think it’s a different result. Wilson is great though obviously so who knows.

Will be interesting to listen to Murph&Mac once I download it.

Ravens are very good and Lamar is great to watch. It’s just a shame I live in Maryland and Baltimore is Baltimore.
