NFL Thread 2014-2015

The Superbowl defo. It had everything. Watch that as a game if you want to get into it.

It's a good thing I'm not a Seattle Seahawks fan or else I'd be furious.

No matter what you think you saw it's an obvious running play call all the way. You give it to the beast or you fake to the beast left and bootleg Wilson out right. If the beast is stuffed then you call timeout and get ready for two pass plays. The first of the two pass plays would be a fade. But whatever the pass play is at least give your insane RB a shot to beat up a tired defensive line.

Only interesting part in this is that John Moffitt the former Seahawks guard was tweeting something similar today.

Woke up this morning and still couldn't believe they didn't run Beast Mode or even fake it to him and have Wilson run it in like against the Packers. Carroll has taken the blame publicly but to me it's quite clear he's defending Bevell.

Wouldn't Wilson rushing it to the end zone be a better alternative instead of throwing it a receiver?

Agreed with your statement, and I don't understand the author's argument really. So because they took a wild chance on an obvious running situation, it wasn't a mistake? They ran on first down in a very obvious running situation. They had a very obvious run formation and Lynch still found a way to get three or four yards. Then they switch to a shotgun formation with three wide. I'm fine if they wanted to throw, but maybe use some play action with some quick slants. With one time out, 30 seconds or so was all the time in the world. Throwing wasn't a mistake necessarily, but the play calling was a big blunder

Keep in mind, Bevell has limited resources. None of Seattle’s wide receivers can consistently separate from man coverage, and their quarterback, great as he is on extended plays, can’t make many throws from the pocket. That makes things tough on an offensive coordinator.

Pretty solid argument when your mandatory recognition of the opposing view basically blows your argument out of the water. Limited talent at receivers, putting your running quarterback in your most limiting formation, and utilizing your one great offensive weapon on a cross route that was all but a diversion...great call OC

Interesting perspective. The play would probably have been the perfect option if the Patriots were the team down 4 on the one yard line, because Brady is best in quick pass situations. Throwing Edleman on that fade route he tried two or three times or Gronk on a quick slant probably would have worked. But game theory probably entails taking note of your own strength and weaknesses though, right? Playing to your weaknesses and your opponents strength, is that what good strategy entails? Taking into account that you have a timeout, that you are obviously in four down territory, and that you are telegraphing your play call with your formation tells me that this isn't good strategy. Butler said that every time he had seen that formation in game film or on the practice field, the exact same play was run. He intercepted not because he anticipated something different, but that he knew the exact play the Seahawks would call because of the personnel on the field and because of the formation. The writer doesn't take into account all the perimeters, he just writes from the premise that teams in most cases would have called a run play.

Julian Edelman is going to get a ton of TV time with commercials. Man should have been the MVP.

That move he made twice on the goal line was just nasty. Can't believe that guy was a converted quarterback. Just hope he doesn't end up going the way of Wes Welker with all his concussion issues. Stay away from the Molly, stay out of the middle, but maybe answer that call from Old Spice, because they probably need a little white guy for their new commercials

That's really great. It's amazing how late that dude on the left hand side in the Wilson jersey realized it was an interception. It took him about 10 seconds to realize what happened

I'm a defeated and deflated football fan...the only time I find any joy is in watching other sets of fans suffer the misery I have

Hope they have a good return policy wherever they all bought those brand new nice jerseys

Might seem crazy but I got into the game playing Madden. IMO the quickest way to learn the rules and the jargon, the plays and formations etc. That and the actual quality of the game today is built so well relatively to a game like Fifa.

Drafts will be interesting this year. Still haven't quite got my head around the crazy structures of college football.

Pretty much same for me. It helps you know some of the more basic plays.

I only knew of 4 teams Pats, Cowboys, Bears and the 49ers and I only knew of Tom Brady so I played with the pats and started following them from there.

Tom Brady is giving his MVP truck to Malcolm Butler. Classy move.

I posted about this before only HUGE hole in the theory is that they ran Lynch on first down......what if he had scored?

As someone previously said its a stupid theory. Ultimately it was a bad play call. They tried to be clever instead of just getting it done. 3 chances Lynch would have had to run it if they hadn't wasted time on the first play and if they'd been quick. I don't think a defence full of hall of famers stops lynch making that yard. One stop? Possible. 2 stops? Very very unlikely. 3 stops? I'd go as far as saying nearly impossible.

Classy move indeed, but the quote made me chuckle:

"I would love to give him the truck," Brady said. "I would love to do that. I'm going to figure out how to make that work."

Errrrm, hand him the keys and the pink slip?

Interesting stat that of the 5 times this season that Seahawks ran with Lynch from inside one yard, he only managed 1 touchdown and actually lost yards twice

Still don't feel any pity for Seahawks or their fans, they were pretty damn lucky to get down the field in the first place after the Kearse catch.

I swear I saw Earl Thomas3 in the video.

Not crazy at all. that's how I learnt the game. Still need to figure the intricacies though like what nickel, dime formations look like. But anyway, whenever I play the game and I'm 1 yard away from a TD, I run the ball.
