NFL Thread 2014-2015

I think they should be thrown out if they're guilty and the colts given their place. They've f*cked up once before and they should know better, even though video-taping is/was rampant. It totally takes the shine off the season if its true. The disappointing thing is that they don't need to stoop to such juvenile tactics because they're a bloody good football team.

It'll never happen. If it did it would totally make a mess out of the Superb Owl.

Its already a mess unfortunately. Unless the NFL clarify that nothing was amiss or it was all a big misunderstanding, the furore over what seems to be a common practise among some players/teams has ensured that Psi-gate has kind of ruined the superbowl - especially if the patriots go on to win it.

Nah, it really isn't it. Once we get into next week there will be a lot of other things people are talking about in regards to the game. If you overturn the results of the AFC Championship game, then you insure that is all anyone will remember about this Superb Owl.

Seattle wins, then PSI-gate becomes a footnote. Patriots win, it becomes a slightly bigger footnote, but that is about it.

I would also add that it seems the league rules dictate what the penalty should be with a little lee-way given to increase the fine and/or take away draft picks. The rule does not seem to allow for the forfeiture of games. You don't punish rule breaking by breaking the rules about the punishment.

Should also add, what happens if the investigation takes more than 2 weeks so it is after the Superb Owl? Or what if it concludes the day before the Superb Owl, how do you overturn the outcome of the AFC title game then?

It's not going to happen, silly to even suggest it does.

Only thing to do is is kick out Patriots, and Colts were so shockingly bad against Patriots, they shouldnt get it either.
Just make it NFC vs NFC match. Have Packers vs Seahawks as a rematch for last week in a neutral stadium...

I thought you said the idea of them doing it was ridiculous?

This.

It's much ado about nothing. Similar to Spygate, the Pats are being unfairly picked on for being successful.

Please someone bite

It makes no sense anyway, to make it easier to throw if all they done was run it down Indys throat.

I deflated ball will be easier to grip it helps both running backs and receivers to hold on to the ball. It's blatant cheating if they did indeed do it on purpose, the rules are enforced for a reason.

Read on Twitter the Colts were concerned about the balls in the first game too, and the NFL apparently were notified!

Seriously wonder what is the point of the officials if they haven't picked up on it, assuming balls were significantly altered.

I have unanswered question about all this:

- How inflated were the Indianapolis balls ?
- Under-inflated by how much ?
- Were the balls inflated normally, when the referees checked them ?
- The problem was known at half time, why the referees and the NFL didn't took actions at the time ?
- Why 11 and not 12 ?
- How the referees couldn't see that the balls were inflated but the cornerback can, when he touches less balls than them ?

I smell a conspiracy.

So much opportunity for childish ball jokes

From what I read. Each team brings 12 footballs and use their own footballs on offense. And each ball has to have between 12 1/2 and 13 1/2 of lbs pressure and when they weighed the Pats balls in the match it was less. So many balls!

Honestly I thought it was some kind of jealous conspiracy about the Patriots... but 11 out of 12 balls!?
If it's found that Belichick or Brady knew about this I agree with @Eboue. There should be suspensions.
I don't think it had much impact on the game whatsoever but it's still blatant cheating.

Just if Brady or Bill knew about it? What if it was one of the assistants or ball boys or the back up QB?

Yea but it just wouldn't be worth discussing the ball boys. The reason I mentioned the head coach and QB is quite obvious. If you are going to adjust 11 of the 12 balls you are going to do so to the QB's liking and along with a gameplan? I'm pretty sure the QB's pick the balls they choose to play with every week. And whilst I'm sure softer balls help with grip they would not travel as far so they would only be an advantage if it suited the conditions or the way the offense wants to play.
Honestly I think it's unlikely either will be found of any wrong doing but this is the kind of thing that drags the sport through the mud. It looks bad, it's unnecessary and it gets people talking about the wrong things.
We have a great matchup and Super Bowl to look forwards to but the only thing anyone is going to be talking about for the next two weeks are deflated footballs.

People overreact with this kind of things, the sport risk nothing, I remember a betting scandal at Montpellier Handball, almost all the players were involved, one game has maybe been fixed by the players themselves, the club fired all of them and the story was over without repercussions on the club or the sport.

If the Patriots are guilty and are sanctioned, the sport will be fine.

It's pretty insignificant in the way that it turned out but what would have happened if it was a tight game? I don't think it would have been forgotten too quickly tbh.

The NFL would have took is time, would have tasted the water and with the other franchise approval, "destroyed" the Patriots.
Because the sanctions are what save the NFL.

Well, at least there is something to discuss, instead of this being like a match day thread.

I’m looking forward to the game and watching how a healthy Gronk performs.

Never turn away the chance to watch Earl Thomas against challenging and multiple offensive schemes, either. Splendid player and the one the Patriots will tailor their game plan around. The rest of their defense is in the - we do what we do excellently, attempt to beat us mould.

I think I see the Seahawks as slight favourites at this point.

Wanted to see the Patriots playing loose and having fun.

Unlike under the pressure of 07, for example. May be more difficult now.
