NFL Thread 2014-2015

"My hawks" everywhere. Gotta lot of Seahawks share holders on this board.

I think it was one ball. The guy who's making the claims is an Indy writer. Bitter cnut! Nothing on NFL.com
Ahhh, feck him then.

What are the chances, a forum for such a globally followed team, that even actively welcomes fans of other teams, but when it comes to NFL, everyone on his is either a Pats fan or a Seahawks fan.

Not really true. We got a lot of 49ers fans here too. Mr.Marcello is a cowboys fan. With the decent amount of US posters i think we got a decent mix here.

Didn't enjoy 90% of the game last night, Seattle were so bad! Only thing that kept them in it was GB's inability to score TD's. Credit to our defense but I think any Packers fan has to be distraught that the game wasn't over at half time.
Thought Lynch had an incredible game and I hope that we keep hold of him. Without Lynch there is no offence. Thought Kearse and in particular Wilson showed a lot of self belief and character to make those plays late in the game. Can't wait for the SB vs NE now. Think the 2 best teams are going to AZ but hard to say we deserved to be there after that first half display. Sure we will play more like we can in a couple of weeks though. Hope Sherman will be ok. It was pretty weird that GB didn't target him more with his injury but I gues A Rodg was still nervous :p

Packers deserved to lose. For all the dominance in the first half, they really didn't go for the throat. Seattle were all over the place, but Green Bay really played it safe when they had huge opportunities to kill the game right at the start. When Sherman did his arm in, they didn't even smell blood then. So disappointing.

well in terms of geography, for all the people from the UK the Pats are as close as we can get to a local NFL team

lol. Well patriots have also played here and were pretty much heavily shown during the years here (well ten years ago)
Still Packs fan here :P Though disappointed seeing how Belichick didnt let up yet Mccarthy played it safe. Difference there.

I think Patriots / Brady will do it.

Quick question: who's the favourite to win the Super Bowl? I've only started following the NFL last year so I don't know every team's capability just yet. All the articles I read on the NFL website are going on about the Hawks' strong defence, but from what I've read on here their defence was all over the place yesterday (only watched the fourth quarter)?

I've got more sympathy for Wilson than Brady so I'm hoping for a Hawks win.

If London ever got a full-time team, would anybody from the UK switch allegiances to them?

I'd probably look to attend some games, but I wouldn't be able to support them on a weekly basis.

This is pretty much it, there was a large rise in popularity in the UK the same time as the Patriots were on top, leads to a lot becoming Patriots fans.

You'll find a lot of UK fans who watched in the 80's were, and still are Bears fans. I'd imagine the Bears are still the 2nd most popular NFL team in the UK, after the Patriots.

This is an extremely tight Super Bowl. I don't think you can classify either as favourites to be honest.

I would say the Seahawks are just about favourite, particularly given that they are defending champions.

I recommend the "Around the NFL" podcast for NFL news, opinion and banter.

I can't change who I support. I support for emotional reasons rather than any sort of logic. And London is 5 hours drive away from me anyway. Hardly local. I can fly to New York from Newcastle in that amount of time!

I would never switch to a deadbeat team like the Jags, id rather stick with my own deadbeat Raiders and hope they turn it around.

If London got an expansion team it would be interesting but i cant see that happening.

God no.

I only started following NFL when a good friend of mine moved to Denver and he got into it, so I adopted the Broncos along with him and started to get quite into it. I'd watched the Super Bowl a bunch of times before but never properly go into it which with hindsight I put down to not having a team to support so didn't have any investment.

Since having a team I got a more active interest and after that started enjoying neutral games as well.

Now I've got a team why would I switch to another just because they're from the same country? Even if they were from Manchester I wouldn't switch allegiances, it makes no sense to me.

Any Chelsea fans active in this thread might have a different answer :p

Should be a good Super Bowl. Don't expect the Seahawks to have as many turnovers so it will be up to the Pats to generate their points by themselves.

Just got tix for Jets-Fins game in London. Fear I will be able to add London to the list of cities where I've seen the Jets lose (NY obviously, Buffalo, Baltimore, DC, Foxboro).

Living close to Buffalo and well within "Bills Country" but not being a fan of the Bills myself, I do get a bit of a chuckle seeing how well Lynch is doing for Seattle.

Here's one article from 2012 about the trade.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...-trade-is-paying-off-for-bills-in-a-major-way
I wonder if the writer would like to revisit his views.

Now in fairness Lynch had some issues in Buffalo, including some legal problems but they essentially gave him up for nothing. Jackson and Spiller have been okay, but the Bills keep not making the playoffs, Seattle is in a 2nd Superb Owl in a row with Lynch being a key factor on the field.

When I refer to the Seahawks as "My Hawks" it is because they are the team I root for and does not imply any form of ownership on my part, kind of like when someone says "My husband" or "My wife". Glad I could clear that up for you.

I live in Seattle and have lived in Washington for ~25 years so it is logical that I root for the Seahawks and have for a couple of decades now. Football (soccer) is pretty popular here in the Northwest so it makes sense to have a lot of Seahawks fans that are also interested in or support one of the biggest football (soccer) teams in the world.

The defense was actually pretty good, held Rodgers to 178 yards with only 1 TD and had 2 picks. Considering Rodgers has a pretty good shot at the MVP award and was probably the best QB over the course of the season that's pretty good. Also held Lacey to just 73 yards, although GB rushed for 135 as a team they did not score a rushing TD, that's pretty good.

Holding GB to 2 FGs in their first two scoring drives was absolutely crucial, if our D had not held up there we would not have had a chance. Our defense and running game were not the problem yesterday, Wilson and our receivers were awful for the first 3 quarters.

Seattle probably the favorites. The flow of wagers being made will probably keep the gambling odds pretty even. But most of the media "experts" will probably pick Seattle to win.
Opened at -2.5 in favor of Seattle I believe. Wouldn't be surprised if it is pick'em by now.

Like in most sports, the best defense his favorites.

tbf, not really a problem...it's just that people come out of the woodwork and act like their die hards. Pack and Pats are tenfold worse than Seahawks, but given the Hawks are young, probably gonna repeat with a well managed cap, their bandwagon gonna heat up.

Bears4Life here. Cubs too. Far more enjoyable than jumping on a bandwagon, sticking to one area. Man Utd have given me enough success for a lifetime. Now I just wait for d4t Cubs win.

Sorry buddy ;)

I like the seahawks to win tbh. They have the better players bar Brady and Gronk. Russell Wilson can't play that badly again. Plus he's 10-0 against SB winning quarterbacks.

Are you from Chicago? My wife is from Chicago so I've adopted the Bears and Bulls to support. Still not fully into those sports yet as TVs coverage of NBA and NFL is poor in Manchester.

P.S. Chicago is an epic city.

So anymore word on "Deflate-gate" though as of yet nobody has really explained to me how this would be an advantage to the Patriots unless they also found a way to make sure only they had the under-inflated footballs (using the assumption the under inflated ball would be easier to throw and catch, not sure if that is a safe assumption or not)?

Chicago is a mighty town.

Each team supplies 12-20 balls, and uses their own on offence, which are prepared to their QB's preferences.

And RedCafe thought we were ahead of the curve of guys playing with their own balls.

Have read different things on that, though the consensus is as you say. To be honest decades of watching the NFL and I never really paid any attention to whether they change the football out with each change of possession (including turnovers not just kickoffs), just never something I really felt a need to watch for.

According to this page on

http://www.nfl.com/rulebook/ball
The home club shall have 36 balls for outdoor games and 24 for indoor games available for testing with a pressure gauge by the referee two hours prior to the starting time of the game to meet with League requirements. Twelve (12) new footballs, sealed in a special box and shipped by the manufacturer, will be opened in the officials’ locker room two hours prior to the starting time of the game. These balls are to be specially marked with the letter "k" and used exclusively for the kicking game.

Though it could be that half the footballs are given to the visiting team to prepare as they see fit or it really does not specifically say the home club provides them only that it has them available for testing. NFL.com might just have the rule wrong also, wouldn't be the first time an official site got something wrong.

Nah, just went from Jordan and stuck with Chicago for the rest. Until the Blackhawks renaissance, it was pretty tough for a few years, 4 pretty garb teams with a fluke Superbowl run thrown in. Actually enjoying the ride now, Cubs having a good summer, Bears have talent but not really a team, Bulls and Hawks are good.

Coverage of the NFL in the UK is superb tbf, 4-5 live games per weekend and RedZone covering everything else between Sky/Channel 4, just as good as you'd get it in America. Pretty sure BT Sport would give you about 8-10 Live NBA games too, but I don't have it, I had it when it was ESPN and had plenty of highlight shows in the morning.
