NFL Season Begins Tonight...

Pats to beat Oakland

Super Bowl is a tough one...statistically I'd say that this is the year the Colts get by the Pats...but I can't count the pats out ...especially vs. Manning.

My heart says Cowboys
My stats say Colts
My eyes says Eagles
My Mind says Patriots

Well, I would have picked NE 30-20 tonight, but Oakland might win. But my fantasy team is already looking good. I have Brady and Moss.

As for my picks, here goes (my friends and I do weekly pics and yearly predictions then compare at the end of the season).

NFC East: Philadelphia 12-4; Dallas 9-7; NY Giants 7-9; Washington 6-10

MVP: Peyton Manning, Indianapolis

NFL MVP: Dante Culpepper, Minnesota
Defensive MVP: Julius Peppers, Carolina

Defensive Rookie: Derrick Johnson, Kansas City
Coach of Year: Bill Belichick, New England (I picked him because despite the loss of his two coordinators, he'll still roll on, and without Teddy Bruschi and Ty Law as well)

And is a Cowboys fan. :D

Grew up in nearby Fort Worth area. Even made comments before the draft about how he was hoping Jerry Jones could pull off some trade and get him to Dallas, even stating he'd love to split time with Emmitt for a couple years.

He looks good in San Diego blue though. I also like that Drew Brees kid, an Austin, TX, boy. Was really hoping the Boys would make a move for him in 2001 but instead JJ went with Quincy Carter. :wenger:

So, Bolts fans...do you think Brees is the man or a product of Tomlinson and Gates? I'd gladly take Rivers off your books for a first rd pick and a conditional pick based on future performance. Oh, and you can have Drew Henson too. :D

feck off! We'll trade for two (2) 1st rounders if you want Rivers, and you keep that muppet Jim Henson too.

Personally, I'd rather take a 1&2 (or the best deal on offer) for Brees and keep Rivers. The lad out of USC will go in the draft this year and reduce interest, but there might be strong interest in both.

Tough schedule, which might cost us homefield in playoffs.
The division is shit again, as always. Might go 10-6, 11-5. Should be good enough to keep the division crown. After that, I'm not holding out for anything special. It would take Manning pulling his finger out and overcoming his ghosts...and then us taking care of Pittsburgh and catching Indy offguard.

But that's not gonna happen because Peyton is his father, resurrected. It's the Pats' to lose again. Ms. TDO will be thrilled, as usual.

It should/will be Rivers running the show, eventually. Here's hoping Breezie has another stellar year and we can get rid for an impact receiver and a decent draft pick.

I like the way you think ;)

Sorry to hear about the missus, Chowd fan and all.

I'm holding out hope the defence will be greatly improved this year. I watched a lot of Wade Phillips' defences when he was in Buffalo and they were good. Hopefully the two rookies can make an impact and improve what was a very average pass-rush.

It's been a nightmarish 3-4 years with her. The gloating started early and has been often.

Wade always ran a solid scheme with the Bills. Levy was smart enough to let his coaches coach, and not interfere. Marty would do well to do the same. And to keep off the sideline completely in a playoff game, or when anything's on the line. I'd like a Martache free season, thankyouverymuch.

Like David Boston? :D
That'll be enough of that, MrM.

Let's see how funny that kind of talk is after Sunday. Be prepared for a bit of this next week: "F*&king Sean Payton..."

1st down - Run into the pile
2nd down - Run into the pile
3rd down - Dump pass into coverage
4th down - Punt coverage team flying down the field

:D The future's not looking so bright anymore, is it?

Turns and roundabouts I suppose, Pats fans were very quiet for a decade.

Seconded.

Hmm... suppose I'll have to make that bet online. Give me Dallas plus the 4-1/2. You do know the Boys are going to win on Sunday, right? :p
Cowboys look to have improved this year, particularly at RB, but with a new and improved pass rush we'll be all over Bledsoe's hide. Probably 3 INT's for the Bolts on Sunday and 5 sacks. You did see him when he was in Buffalo, right?

Cowboys still need a QB for the future.

Henson won't cut it. :(

Omar Jacobs looks f*cking awesome though.

should be a couple of decent ones coming out this year.

Leinart
Jacobs
Tate
Young

but we have other needs to fill with a 1st round draft pick. Bledsoe will do for a year or two.

From Bowling Green? How on earth do you get to see him play?

Cowboys look to be improving but in the Eagles division it will be wildcards at best for the next couple of years I would think. Parcell's is the business so it might be sooner.

I'm still convinced that Dallas had an answer to the QB problem in 2003 when they could have drafted Byron Leftwich. But Jerry cited the need for a shutdown corner and that top 10 drafted QBs cost too much money. He had invested $1.5m bonus money in Carter and $3.1m bonus money in Hutchinson (with $1m in salary guaranteed through 2004), so he was weary of tossing $10m bonus money at Leftwich, along with $30-40m in salary.

BTW, when the NFLPA finally realize that a rookie salary cap system needs to be implimented? feckin' Alex Smith getting $50m+ with around $20m in bonus money is ridiculous.

I've seen some compilations of him and I see his highlights every week.

guy is really good. reminds me a bit of Duante Culpepper. Got a lightning release and a rocket for an arm, big strong and mobile.

I only follow the college game a bit, usually towards the end. I don't think I've ever seen a Bowling Green game. I'll keep my eyes open for the name.

you should be seeing quite a bit of him as he will definitely be a hesiman top 10 cnadidate this year

he's ionly a junior but I expect he'll go pro after this year.

Where are the resident Charger fans?

How 'bout *** Cowboys? :D I must say, the Boys would have blown this game last season. But perhaps there is a new confidence and swagger about this team. I hope so. But often week 1 performances don't forecast the coming games. However, with the Deadskins coming to Big D for Monday Night next week, in which the Triplets will be inducted into the sacred Ring of Honor, I can see the Boys going 2-0. Death, taxes, Dallas beating Washington. :D

New York Giants baby!!

Go on Big Blue, destroying 'rivals' Arizona 42-19 in the season opener, we look like the best team in the league. ;)

There was some talk of how the Cardinals might be the best team in the (weak) NFL West. I couldn't get the game out here in Fresno, as it was in conflict with the Whiners-Rams game. Did the Giants really look that good, or are the Cards over-rated (for a pack of losers)?

Giants did look impressive, but when you score 2 Special Teams TDs, you will most likely win the game. The offense also surrendered 7 points, so the D looks pretty good. The NFC East might be pretty tight this season (except Washington, of course). :D

nice win, marcello. watched the last 6 or 7 minutes ... thought youd left too much time on the clock. no gates hurt the chargers in the end.

Fecking Baltimore muppets lost

No shame losing to arguably the best team in the NFL. However, the way you guys lost was pathetic. Why can't Baltimore find a legit QB? They should never have let Dilfer go. He's nothing special, but he did get the job done in 2000.

Billick will be looking for a veteran QB next season, if he's still around. I can't see Boller lasting as the incumbent beyond 2005, might even get the 'heave-ho' by November. I could see the Ravens being a player in the Brees/Rivers saga or even making a big trade up for #1 next season to draft Leinart.

And perhaps a coaching change may be necessary.

I agree with that.
