NFL 2024 | Divisional Round

Read a very interesting stat on NFL.com.

Teams with a > total yards differential and zero turnovers were 46-0 in playoffs in the superbowl era … until yesterday. Now 46-1.
They turned the ball over on downs. Does that not count as a turnover per the stats?

Not even luck both teams are just so much better than the Chiefs now in every department. The Chiefs are not going to stop the Bills or Ravens from scoring at will.
Oh I completely agree, barring an injury to a key player I don't see the Chiefs winning those games at all but idk they're the type of team to just find a way to get it done (with the help of the refs).

Every department except one. Mahomes just seems to find a way to win no matter what. Even if the other team is better than the Chiefs.

This is the thing. In terms of mentality of the Chiefs, there is an air of Brady and the Patriots about them in that it doesn’t matter about form or stats, on any given day they just seem to find enough to get over the line.

I would definitely say though that the Ravens certainly, the Bills maybe, should be favourites when they step on the field at Arrowhead next week. Their rosters are sufficiently talented relative to where the Chiefs are now to overcome the Mahomes and Chiefs voodoo magic.

Eh? Have you seen the Chiefs defense and special teams?

I don't think they stop Lamar and Henry.
The Ravens is a better match up for our defense than the Bills. Our 3 main linebackers and safeties are very physical and you just don't see guys run through both the D line and our backfield to get 15+ yard plays. Take away those explosive running plays from them and they are beatable.

The thing with the Chiefs is they have the firepower in their pass rush to make game-changing plays when needed. That’s maybe where the Lions were found lacking when it mattered due to injuries - key plays on defense.

Generally yes but Mahomes hasn't faced a talent gap this wide in his career before. Will be very interesting to see if he can overcome it next Sunday. Allen and Lamar are playing the best they have ever played but this time they have elite O-lines and ground games to go with it too along with the standard stout defenses. Plus the Cheifs offense is the worst it has ever been in Mahomes career. No run support, no receivers. Its just Mahomes, the all pro guards (who they are having to shuffle npw due to injuries) and an aged Kelce on offense.

I want the Chiefs to 3-peat just for the history pf it all but i'm not sure this time. If he somehow gets to the SB and wins it again, it will be easily his greatest triumph and would make him the best ever in my eyes already, even without 7 rings, because this is a major major uphill battle he has next week.

It’s a very good point. The difference between being consistently good on stats vs being able to make critical plays when it matters most is significant.

As for the Lions, a lack of game changing plays on D was key, but they were constantly left with their backs against the wall by emotive game play on offence. I think if the offence didn’t play so poorly, and they stuck to what they’ve done all year instead of trying to be clever, the whole game changes. Gibbs was running. Goff had open throws. But they let the game get too big for them and they fecked up.

I love the NFL but honestly it is almost as obviously fixed as wrestling. The media buzz from having Taylor Swift at the Super Bowl far outweighs any other consideration and so the referees will continue to be instructed to penalize any player that breathes in the direction of Mahomes.

Hopefully it's fixed in favour of Eagles making the SB as well

I disagree. Bad weather favours the better running team, which is undoubtedly the Eagles.
True but in general it's difficult to sell out for the run with Brown & Smith as recievers but bad conditions allows the defence to focus on the run more

Kind of bored of all the ref stuff, yeah chiefs got some calls but the whole fixed thing is just lazy narrative. Across sport the big teams & players get the calls in general

I can’t be dealing with another Chiefs Eagles Super Bowl.

Gimme Rams and Ravens/Bills.

Commanders wouldn’t mind that either but just feels like it’d be a blowout. Commanders would be too green.

I agree with this too. The Superbowl is this colossal cultural behemoth of money and bombast and to not have the biggest celebrity in the world (Is she?) there is probably seen as completely unacceptable from the powers that be. Like WWE, it's not sports. It's sports entertainment.

What the NFL need is Jim Cornette booking the Super Bowl. It should have been the Chiefs v Lions in a Hell in a Cell match officiated by Stone Cold Steve Austin.

JR on commentary after St Patrick Mahomes is barely touched by a defender "BAHH GAWD HE IS BROKEN IN HALF. WILL SOMEBODY STOP THE DAMN MATCH? ENOUGH'S ENOUGH!!"

And as Mahomes is about to throw the game winning TD, Austin puts the stunner on him and they lose. Then proceeds to Beer bash

But Vince comes out from behind, whacks Austin with a steer chair and gets Earl Hebner in who then rings the bell because Dan Campbell tapped (he didn't tap). Chiefs win! It'll go down as the Louisiana Screwjob.

On a scale from ‘An ancient civilization based in Atlantis built the pyramids’ to ‘Oswald didn’t assassinate JFK alone’, I’d put the ‘games are fixed to get Taylor Swift to the Super Bowl’ in the ‘Stanley Kubrick filmed the moon landing in Hollywood’ conspiracy theory range.

But but but the increased viewership. The most watched SB!! It has to mean something dammit!!

I don’t believe the games are fixed in any way but some QBs do get a lot more favorable calls than others, and I also believe Goodell DEFINITELY wouldn’t mind Kelce in the SB for audience numbers.

It’s not just the Chiefs though. Allen is a flopping cheat as well from time to time. Lamar and other, mainly mobile/rushing, QBs get a lot less calls when out of the pocket or when the pass rush arrives questionably late.

What's up with there being no build up whatsoever on Sky for the Eagles Rams?

Edit: nvm. I thought kick off was at 7.30
