We really, really don't deserve anything from this game. Fingers crossed we can close it.

No idea why we aren't just running it. Just waste time/their timeouts and kick the field goal.

I wasn’t able to hear all the commentary, but that looked like a rib injury for Herbert right?

Hurts like hell, but can still play through the pain (to some extent).

Take him out of the game for fecks sake.

Edit: What the feck! He went from being unable to throw it away to throwing that dart...

Please just don't let them back in with the onside.

I know Herbert will get plaudits for how he played after he got injured but he cost them that game before with some poor third down throws and the pick 6.

A bit harsh. The Chargers defense gave up 20
They should have been up by at least 10 at half time and that was down to them not converting their thirds and some of those were down to poor throws under no pressure.

It’s a team game. E.g. They would have been up by 10 at the half if the defense hadn’t allowed a TD on a drive where they got a 3rd down INT called back due to an illegal contact penalty.

Edit: LA also dropped 2 INT - one of them an almost guaranteed pick 6

It is a team game but I'm not going to sit here and rave about Herbert when he had an average (and poor by his high standards) game leading up to his injury. He deserves kudos for doing what he did in the last quarter but put Mahomes in that Chargers team in the first half, up against a non existent defense and the game's already over by halftime.

Cool. Not saying you should. I’m just pointing out that it’s “a bit harsh” to say a single play or a single person “cost them the game”.

Also this was given as a down with contact. Is the ruling correct here? Surely that's some kind of foul/penalty but he may have fumbled it on the way down.

Pretty certain that should have been a penalty on the defender yeah, but the refs ignored it because rule of cool. Think the ball only came out when he hit the ground so no fumble.

Down by contact is the correct ruling. The ball comes out as a result of him landing on the ground, you can see it happen if you drag the time cursor and slowly pass by the 3 second mark, and the ground cannot cause a fumble.

I don’t see any kind of foul being committed.

The chargers are building a pathetic offence despite having Justin fecking Herbert. Literally everything seems to be screens or short passes to the running backs

Not having Allen available probably hurt them as well today, Mike Williams is more of a contested catch guy than an elite separator, not enough as your alpha WR in that offense.

Not sure what to think of that game. The Chargers D is elite imo, held KC in check especially in the first half when the offense should've done better to get some distance between them. The pick six was also on Staley or whoever called the up-tempo plays, Everett motioned that he wanted to get out of the game and you still try to find him in the endzone, need to do better there. Think they'll be fine going forward but this was a great chance to get one over the Chiefs and they missed it.

Not sure about the Chiefs though, seems like they don't have a clear identity anymore. Kelce seems to be less involved than in previous years but it's not like they're constantly throwing to MVS or JuJu either, it's just Mahomes finding whoever's open but I guess that's a good thing if they are reliable enough.

Their defense looked very impressive. We barely had a sniff and it was only down to a couple of moments of brilliance from Mahomes that we scored 2 TD against them. How often do you see a team against the Chiefs force us to kick for 3 when we had a first down and 1 yard to goal? Our O line looked pretty shite for most of the game and our defense only took over once their O line got tired at the end.

That game should be used as a wake up call to how much we need to improve in the coming season. ESPN predicted that our offensive line would be the best in the NFL... I'd like to meet the joker who wrote that piece.

Feel a bit weird about risking your franchise QB for an unlikely win in week 2. It's a big season for the Chargers. A lot of people have them as down as contenders. I appreciate Herbert being gutsy playing through the pain but the coaches should have taken him out of the game instead risking his health like that.

Its only a rib injury. He's got 23 others, so I don't see what the problem is.

Think I'll just go to bed. There's no fecking way we are winning this.

Imagine what you'd be like if you didn't support one of the best teams on the NFL. Man would never have the game on

Right? It's like a City fan moaning about being 1-0 down in the first half knowing full well they'll come back and win that with relative ease

Also that pick 6, if you look closely, wasn’t on Herbert. The whole ply was designed knowing the defensive back had outside leverage on Everett. Herbert threw it where it should have been, it’s that for some weird reason Everett leaked wide.

That was partly on Herbert for me - Everett just had back-to-back receptions of something like 10 and 20 yards and you can clearly see him gesturing to the sideline that he's gassed and wants to come off the field. For some reason they decided to keep playing up-tempo and Herbert still targeted Everett (who indeed gave up on the designed play). Gotta have that awareness as a QB imo.
