NFL 2021

I think I was too caught up in the tribute that followed the play on Sunday night to really notice it, but feck me what an interception that was from Simmons.

What’s up with Dak by the way? All reports suggesting nothing to do with injury, but he’s been completely cold since he came back. His stats vs opening weeks are hugely different.

Seems to have suddenly kicked off across the board. NFL, PL … I wonder if it’s just omicron, or perhaps deteriorating vaccine efficacy, or even a low vaccination rate altogether.
Or a lessening in personal stringency vs. the virus. It was bound to happen.

I’d say all are at play.

How is it that in the NFL thread everyone is so nice to each other . Are you all good people or just good at pretending to be nice . Need drama like f1 to spice it up

Most NFL fans are civil towards each other, the only time you'll find animosity is when divisional rivals are playing like the Bears and Packers or VIkings or Giants and Jets or Eagles and especially anyone against ''America's team'' the Cowboys(worst fans). Other than those type of instances, NFL fans are usually calm headed and more analytical than emotional about things.

As long as Brady's GOAT status isn't discussed

Sucks to see so many players with Covid issues, but maybe right now is the "right" time (if there ever is one of course) before the playoffs start.

Wonder if they should push all games a week back to give the league some sort of breather, but I guess that's not happening:

The logistics of pushing the Superb Owl back a week would be enormous when you consider all the stuff that goes on around the actual game.

Yeah I agree, think that's the main issue.

They could cancel the Pro Bowl (should probably happen regardless) and push everything before the SB a week back though, although that would mean the SB teams don't have a week off beforehand.

Just seems like this thing is getting out of control within the league now, not sure if it's due to Omicron being super contagious or just bad timing, but probably a combination of all things mentioned above.

Yea it’s definitely ramping up again in terms of case numbers, same as we’re seeing in the PL I guess.

Pro Bowl being canned seems obvious.

So been recommended this to replace the hole left by F1, but haven't a clue who to get behind.
Who's the villain's, the underdogs, the favorites, the despised etc? Do I go for the glory fan, or @Grylte thumb sucking luck picking a side?

The Jets bro. You can't go wrong with the Jets. You'll thank me later.

I kind of hate it already.

It's a film based on a brief period in Sean Payton's life when he was banned from coaching.

Well personally speaking I'm all out of toxic by the time the NFL games start on Sunday. Used it all up in the F1 thread earlier in the day.

Aside from some particular rivalries the NFL is generally way friendlier than other sports.

Home and away fans sit together in the stands, players have close friendships across teams and huge respect for their opposition, fans will often enjoy watching other teams as well as their own, and can enjoy victories and good stories even if they’re not for their own players/team.

It’s just way more good natured.

Except the Patriots*. Everyone hates those cheating cnuts.

*plus Brady.

 Irony if the fact that you don’t like the Pats and Brady cos we (apparently) cheat, yet mandem over here jizzing all over Max in the F1 thread, who benefited from FIA favouritism and drives like a thug?

Am I doing this right?

Ah, it's leaking into completely irrelevant topics now. The F1 thread has grown up and is now finally attaining Messi vs Ronaldo levels

UK NFL fans have pretty much adopted that good natured friendly way of engaging with the sport too, as for the UK games you'll see fans of all kinds of teams, wearing their merch, turning up together to watch teams none of them support. Pretty sure they wouldn't do the same for a PL game.

Yea exactly, I go to a bar every Sunday night now to watch RedZone and there’s always a bunch of people in there with loads of different jerseys on show and everyone just enjoys the show. It’s great.

I haven’t actually ever been to a bar to watch any NFL. I know there are bars in London which do it, but it’s so rogue on a Sunday evening. I really should though.

In fairness I think that’s because the tribalism doesn’t exist for NFL in the UK. We don’t have a local team to get behind so many people support loads of teams.

Plus I think there is still this “I am part of a cool niche elite who understand the NFL and don’t just think it’s Rugby” mentality which unites us as fans of the sport rather than just fans of our teams.

Unbelievable to envision, really. So much of the lead up would be unable to switch.

This is true. If I sense someone is really into the NFL I immediately make the assumption that you at least have the capacity to interpret advanced and adjusted stats which already makes me think higher of you than the average football-minded Englishman who downs 20 pints* before a 3pm game and is in the stands in December without a fecking shirt on.

* Which of course is impressive in its own right and nothing to be scoffed at, don't get me wrong.

Well then I’m super since I can down 20 pints* AND understand advanced statistics**

* **In my dreams
