I'll go with the following based on resume and current play: Brady, Rodgers, Russell Wilson, Mahomes, and then a tie between Jackson and Murray for the final spot (maybe you give it to Jackson as he has an MVP already but he's a below average passer for me while Murray is amazing at everything). If Deshaun was playing this season and didn't have legal troubles that cast his future into doubt I would also place him in a tie with Jackson and Murray. I would take Josh Allen because of his playmaking ability next and then probably Stafford, closely followed by Dak and Herbert.

1. Tom Brady
2. Aaron Rodgers
3. Russell Wilson
4. Pat Mahomes (he would be 3 if not for his befuddling play of late whereas Russell was doing very well until his injury this season and has also been to multiple SBs)
T-5. Lamar Jackson
T-5. Kyler Murray
7. Deshaun Watson
8. Josh Allen
9. Matt Stafford
T-10. Dak Prescott
T-10. Justin Herbert

Statistically speaking, who would you say is performing better than Stafford this year ? He leads the league in passing yards and is only 2nd to Brady in TDs.

Well if you ask the question “statistically” then not many if any. But purely looking at statistics is a bit of a mute argument?

I'm not talking from a pure 1-year statistical perspective, I'm talking from the standpoint of a QB being able to transform losses into wins. Stafford showed over many seasons that he's not good at this. Any QB could rack up crazy stats over the course of one season, especially with Sean McVay as their offensive coach.

Either Prescott or Murray for me.

Murray for me, but really, Watson if he wasn't temporarily out of the league. I think Stafford is great but there are at least 10 QB's I'd have ahead of him.

That's true but then again he spent his entire career on a pretty terrible team, and yet somehow still managed to accrue near top 10 all time stats in only about 12 years in the league. If he stays on the Rams for 5 years, he will be top 5 all time and probably win a ring or two in the process.

I always look at stats and combine that with what my eyes are telling me. If you do that with Stafford this year, it paints a fairly favorable picture that he's top 5 in the league (at least).

Yeah. That’s my point though. Stats help inform, stats don’t decide.

If you said Stafford was a top 5 QB this year, then you could make a reasonable claim to it. But that’s different to saying who you think the top 5 QBs in the league are.

Well he has top 10 all time stats in a lot of basic categories because he's up there in terms of pass attempts too, so one could argue a lot of his stats are actually inflated being in a pass-heavy offense for such a long time.

EDIT: Plus with any QB, you have to always ask what happens when the pocket breaks down. Stafford has had a clean pocket to throw from the entire year and if he didn't, his ability to improvise is nothing compared to the QBs ahead of him apart from Brady.

Here are some images to bring this into perspective:

The first tweet shows that Stafford has been pretty mediocre when he's not had a clean pocket to throw from. Good news for him is that this has rarely happened as he far and away has had the best pass-blocking O-line in the NFL this season (highlighted in the reply to the second tweet). These two images alone should sink his MVP candidacy but they obviously won't.

I would put him in the top 5 in the league in the present based on both his stats, his performances, and the fact that he has his team in a pretty good position to challenge for a Super Bowl. That's better than Mahomes and in the same discussion as Brady, Rodgers, Dak, and a few others. His rating is 2nd only to Russell Wilson's this year (and Wilson has been out for a few games, so who knows how much lower it would be if he played those games).

Isnt he leading the league in interceptions? He's a baby in these fields. He'll be elite in a few years though.

He has one more pick than Mahomes and is outperforming him on various other categories such as completion percentage and passer rating. Therefore if one thinks Mahomes is elite (as most do), then surely they would have to apply the same standard to Burrow.

The broader point being that if a QB is playing very well (eye test/subjective) AND they're performing at our near the top most statistical categories (statistical/objective), AND they're leading their leading their team to the playoffs, then you can probably make a very good case that they are elite.

So did the Rams offense actually get slightly worse this week?

Snowing at Lambeau

Slow hungover Sunday today, 7pm can’t arrive soon enough.

I think even Colin has given up on it

Slightly unrelated, but I was watching a clip from Joy Taylor's own radio show and man it's obvious she's spent a lot of time listening Cowherd talk. She's got his cadence and the way he talks down to a tee.

So true, and it happens a lot with these types of shows. If you ever watch First Things First (or listen to the podcast), you’ll note that Nick Wright’s co-hosts have started to copy the way he speaks. Like they’ll start each declaration with ‘America….’

And they also do that weird thing that he does of referring to colleagues by their surnames, as if they’re all at boarding school or something. Bizarre.

Wish I had Scott Hanson's enthusiasm for just one single day of my life.

Brady with two interceptions against the worst pass defense in the league.

One wasn’t his fault, though.

I think it’d be a good decision for Kyler to sit. If it is a high ankle sprain those things can linger if you feck around and try to return too soon.

They need him at full speed for the stretch run, and Colt showed he can be adequate.

Kyler is out officially, so is D-Hop. Will be interesting to see how Colt fares against a better defense.

Forgot myself there thinking a Ref is ever going to rule against Brady

Pats being very good on 3rd downs so far. Not going to get ahead of myself but I’m liking the improvements over the last 3 weeks.
