Manning was atrocious the latter half of the 2015 regular season. From the home game against Minnesota until week 17 against San Diego he threw 4 TD/14 INTs. Osweiler fared better but still wasn't deserving of that big contract in Houston.

But I generally disagree with the premise that you don't need a solid QB to win a Super Bowl - besides a few outliers there is little evidence to support this assertion.

I thought Manning was injured for the latter part of that year, which is how Osweiller got to play...led them to the playoffs at which point Peyton took over again.

No way GB should be panicking with Romo and Kap sitting at home. Give the kid a game to show what he's got and if he doesn't cut it make the move.

Neither am I, but putting aside the adverse coverage it would produce, he has a point to prove and he's (talent wise) a better QB for the rest of the season

He's neither a short or long term solution.

Short term, he's had a good career before, but has declined considerably. I doubt we'll get a peak Colin in any way. Half the rest of first team is injured anyway and even with him it's still up for a toss.

Long term, we need to evaluate Hundley. With a good season, we can trade him down the line. No point in keeping him benched where his value doesn't increase. Any I have hopes he'll do good this season....if we get our O-Line back.

I understand how I could have been misinterpreted, I was referring to the latter portion of games that Manning actually played. That Broncos defense was really generational though, very low scoring games that allowed Manning/Osweiler to grind out wins while not doing anything extraordinary.

While I believe Kaepernick is better than the majority of backups in the NFL, there is no guarantee he will play at the same level he did when San Francisco was dominating the NFC. He was better than decent last year while playing on a garbage team. And remember, wasn't ol' Spread 'Em Out And Run Chip Kelly supposed to make this kid shine? He peaked already and it would be insane to think he'd play at a level that would drastically improve GB and propel them to the playoffs. Secondly, Green Bay and the Rust Belt in general don't seem like the kind of places where fans would appreciate him. It'd be a media circus, the only place he'd draw more attention is if he went and played for the Cowboys.

Not sure what's the bigger crime here but he sure deserves to be shamed for drinking beer through a straw.

I'm not talking about statistically - I'm talking more in terms of whether or not they got the job done. And why isn't Manning listed on the regular season page you posted ?

He's on the second page. Funny enough people will give P Manning a pass because of his HOF career while always dumping on say Dilfer for being just as crap yet winning a SB. And Dilfer wasn't near as bad as P Manning in comparison to SB seasons.

Take away from both SB wins is that having a dominant defense is the sole reason for the success. QB play did more harm than good for those sides.

What does he get a pass on ? He played in 3 superbowls and is the all time leading passer in the history of the NFL.

Just catching up with the games.

Patriots are gonna do feck all this year. Allowing the Jets to roll our D is outrageous.

And wtf happened with the Broncos?! At Mile High as well?!

6 straight games where the D has given up 300+ yards. First time ever in NFL history apparently. It’s dreadful.

There needs to be a change. Either improve the secondary or get some fecking pass rushers. Even though the second half was better, it was another shit QB putting up fantasy numbers on us. We can’t expect Brady to constantly drag us out of trouble.

Totally agree. I don’t understand why our secondary sucks though. It’s packed of pro-bowlers and recent ones at that!

I really do think our pass rush is the real problem. If you give QBs time, any will make throws. I’d be interested to see stats on our QB hits and hurries. And time we give QBs to throw, if such stats exist.

Of course though our breakdown in the secondary is an issue. We give up so many big plays (4+ 30+ yard passes given up against the terrible Jets offence). It kills us when teams can do that. That’s effectively one play and in field goal range.

Worth noting though that this was an issue last year too. Just that our red zone defence was excellent. So there were signs.

Do you regret letting Chandler Jones & Jamie Collins go?

Yep!! The Collins trade in particular was so random & surprised a lot of people.

Doesn’t get mentioned as much, but Ninkovich retiring is a huge loss. Both as a playmaker & leader. Sheard & Long also going without really being replaced. The D was an issue going into the season, but doubt many thought it would be this bad.

Hell yeah, I do at least. Especially Collins more so than Jones. He gave our formations so much versatility and additionally he could rush too. Jones as well but to a lesser extent.

How can one not? Jones has the 2nd most sacks in the league since 2014, second only to the Von Miller.

I found it odd that you were willing to let young ish talented players go like that - especially with so little time left with Brady.

Presumably a cap space issue but who did you get from the draft picks?

I am not a Pats fan. I could care less who they got for those trades. I hope they crash and burn.:D

300+ yards total or 300+ passing? Because I can recall how bad Dallas and New Orleans defenses were circa 2010-2016 and they routinely gave up 400+ yards total and 300+ passing.

Ah, how much inserting a category clarifies things!

Here's an article. https://www.patspulpit.com/2017/10/...st-consecutive-300-yard-quarterbacks-in-a-row

Season record is 10 300-yard passing games allowed by the 2015 Saints.
Consecutive game record (6) is now held by the 2017 Patriots.

This record (or both) will likely be beaten routinely as the passing game continues to dominate the sport.
OR the run defense for many teams keeps improving forcing the QB to throw more. Most teams in the NFL want the QBs to throw to beat them since so many young QBs are starting for teams.

Definitely not cap space. We have a lot of room from that perspective. Must be something else that we don’t know about as frankly it makes absolutely no sense.

Browns really are something else when it comes to managing their QBs
