Read a bit about what's happening with him. Not often I back a team over a player but I think he's acted like a dick.
I dont think its that easy to judge him or the situation. Apparently he was waiting weeks for the team to make an offer and they didnt. Teams issue statements but not necessarily everything might be true.

On the other hand does he go undrafted if he doesnt settle the situation and does that mean he is an unrestricted free agent and anyone can go for him?

No, if I'm not mistaken the Chargers will hold his draft rights until the next draft he enters.

I don't think the Chargers have done anything wrong, or at least, sufficiently wrong, for Bosa to put his career at such a risk.

For example, do you really think he would go anywhere near as high as he did in next years draft given a) he won't have played any meaningful football for a year and b) the risk that the next team faces the same problem?

True you can't believe everything the Chargers have said at face value but I'm struggling to be on Bosa's side here. Regardless of anything it's bonehead decision making.

Apparently Ezekiel Elliot was awesome against the Seahawks last night. That's coming from Seahawks forums who don't compliment easily..

Put Kam Chancellor on his ass twice.

Elliott showed patience, vision and power. It was expected but it's nice to actually see it.

Yep. He didn't hesitate when he saw the lane. He went outside and inside. He was both nimble and powerful. And he even made a few very good pass blocks. He showed a lot in such little game time lol. I was impressed needless to say!

Why is he being reasonable? Putting his career at risk because of offset language and a bonus deferral? You can say that it's up to him but I absolutely disagree that it's a "reasonable" action on his part.

This part from the reddit explains why you can say Bosa is being reasonable

According to PFT:

  • The fact remains that, since 2012, the third overall pick has had either no offset or no deferral.
Basically, Bosa wants what everyone else in his position has received since the new CBA was put in place. He either wants his bonus money up front OR he wants no offset language. He's not asking for both, he just wants one or the other. Meanwhile the Chargers want to defer his bonus AND they want him to have offset language. They don't want to give in on either issue.

Additionally this year - Goff (the #1 pick) has no offset language. Wentz (the #2 pick) has offset language and had a deferred bonus, but only $1M of his $17.6M bonus was deferred (and it was done for Wentz's tax benefit). Elliott (#4) took offset language and a deferral. Ramsey (#5) had no offsets.

And according to this article:

16 of the 20 top five picks from 2012-2015 either received their bonus by the end of their rookie season or had the offset language removed from their deal.

So it seems he is just looking for a pretty standard contract.

I just wish Romo can get through this season. As much as I like Dak, he is still a rookie.

Of course I'm speculating but I highly doubt the offer from the Chargers would be so bad that he risks his entire future by essentially not playing football for a year and put a shadow on his name in terms of risk.

Don't get me wrong, it's a bit crappy that the Chargers are trying to do him badly, but it's foolish IMO on his own self to be in this position coming into Pre season week 3. At this stage in his career it's my view he'd have been much better off biting the bullet.

It's a classic case of bad representation and not looking at the bigger picture.

Of course you and others can disagree but if I was in his shoes, I'd have signed the contract and in 4/5y when he's learnt the trade and potentially flourished into a great player, take his revenge and go and get a lot of cash from another team.

I read a little bit about it and from what I understand he wants is entire wage guaranteed in the first 4 seasons. And he also wants +90% of his signing bonus paid before march 2017.

Yeah. I think he wants either all of his bonus or no offsetting language. Which is probably a fair ask. Just don't know if at this stage though if it's worth it. A little research shows Goff has neither, Wentz has both, and picks 4-10 have a mixture. So I don't think it's unprecedented for him to not get neither.

I don't think it's fair, I tend to be on the players side but I kind of agree with this fanpost.

Or perhaps has injuries get cut loose before the end of the contract and lose money.

Firstly the offset would most probably only apply for a small portion of the contract. It's not like he's losing all of it.

Secondly, what about the money he won't be earning this year anyway?

NFL careers are on average very short and leave you wrecked, his career choice but get the money while you can.

It's his life, probably safe to assume he and his agent figure it won't get to the point of losing a full year. You know they think they will get the deal they want.

Of course the Chargers are wasting a top pick if they let it go like this also, things like this can ruin a club for years. Look how badly the Bucs were run before the Glazers, trouble signing top picks every year, joke of a franchise.(Not saying the Glazers are doing great in Tampa either).

Neither side wins in this situation.

How come HBO have started bleeping out the swearing in Hard Knocks? Its fecking annoying.

Actually feel sorry for the number of injuries he's had in recent years. So unlucky.

So Kaepernick's caused a bit of a fuss with this whole not standing for the national anthem business.

Some of the responses to his act are amazing. You'd think the guy had gone on an anti-American rant culminating in him taking a dump on the flag.

Looks like Prescott will get his shot sooner rather then later...

Lucky for the Cowboys, he looks significantly better than anything else they had last year.

Still nowt compared to the shit McClean got for facing away from the English flag.

Broncos name Siemian starting QB for the opening game.
