Hyde is doing very well!
Really sharp. He has good instincts and is extremely decisive - one he decides on a hole or a cut, he accelerates into it. Helps him avoid losing yards, and picking up a couple even if there is nothing on.

I love this run from his college days:

Good comments on Kap's development - seems more patient in the pocket and working through his reads.

Picking his runs better too, rather than forcing them, which I guess is part of working his reads better.
Yep - and the defense is having to respect our running game and Kap has shown he will make the easy completion, which gives him more time.

Our biggest issue the past few years has been finishing drives - way too often we settle for 3 instead of 7. We need to earn more from our efforts.

How good does Hyde look???

Also great plays by Kap on that drive - and love that the commentators are putting a focus on the amount of effort and work Kap has done to improve over the off-season. Still early days obviously, but it looks to be paying off.

V happy to see us running some screen plays too - was sorely missing from our offense last year.

Am well aware I am getting carried away after less than one game...but this is a very different team from last year.

We have a much clearer identity on offense - and a much better awareness of what our identity is! It feels a much better gameplan - rather than random switching between runs and passes.

And our D is looking strong also - despite all the losses we had during the off-season.

this was the biggest positive for me although we were playing a relatively one dimensional offense.

Well, pre-season, plenty were saying that the 49ers would be amongst the very worst teams this season.

Too early to say really, but they look a lot better than that.
Yep - as the commentators said - forget about what we have lost, have a look at what we have.

Really impressed with them.

Same here, impressed with what I saw. Tougher challenges will come, and they look perfectly capable of taking them on.

I hope Hayne has some better days(feck though, he's been playing NFL all of 5 minutes), would like to see him be a success.

He had a nice run after a catch for about 9 yards where he made the first defender miss.

But the punt muff was pretty bad. However it happens - you learn from it and do it differently next time. Am pretty sure he has done that in rugby also.

But he looks the part to me - good to see him coming in and getting some snaps and producing.

Thought we coached a very good game also - credit to Jim Tomsula and his staff.

Given all the doom around the off-season, the departures and the low predictions for this year, it really looks as though he has gotten this team into a tight unit.

I loved the graphic they showed of his previous jobs - how can you not love a guy who has paid these kind of dues to get where he is today?

Only just seen the Niners game after coming home form work. I was very pleasantly surprised how well we did.Good defense, Decent offense (too reliant on Hyde I think). This will be a fun season.

The 49ers were good, I was actually optimistic for them before the game.
But the Vikings were dreadful, particularly the offensive play calls, Norv Turner failed big time yesterday. On defense Greenway wasn't able to tackle or run, Kendrick needs to replace him.

True, but I think the Niners ran very good plays on D. The commentators were talking a lot about Eric Mangini and his approach for our D this year.

Agree. Looked like AP was out of rhythm but he got very little help from his O-line as well. I'll stick to the fact that 49'ers made Vikings look worse than they were though

Edit: plus what @swooshboy said :) (and sneaky grammar fix)

No doubt, the secondary was great and the passing rush schemes were very good, particularly against a O line who lost his two best players. But that's why Turner failed he tried to keep the ball far too long he also tried to run between the tackles with Bowman waiting for the runners to show their heads.

I still don't understand why he called a Pass-Pass-Pass in an early drive when the vikings were 2nd down and 6, I think, it doesn't even correspond to his playbook. It was a game for intermediary passes and quick Snaps, the 49ers are too good in defense and rushes to try to contain them and throw down the field.

They spoke to AP, and part of the problems seems to be that he's new to this system, both having never really player out of the shotgun, or having the team built around teh quarterback rather than him.

Still, you can only beat what's in front of you, and the 49ers done it in style.

Ah, okay. That is fair enough I guess. Still he's class so he'll be fine in a couple of games. Glad we got to play against him first then! :)

What I liked(despite him being horrible and all that), was he said that the system was a good one, and it was down to him to start fitting in.
Found this on one of my favourite sites and thought it was relevant to the recent Romo discussion
