Nfl 2008-2009

I couldn't care less who wins but it seems every big call is going against Arizona. That was a pretty weak holding call. Not to mention 2 challenges won by AZ.

He is running around, lifting weights and even dropping back to throw a few passes.

There is still a little bit of looseness in one of the ligaments and stiffness due to the infections.

Looks like he will be ready to go opening day either way.

There will be some rustiness once he is back, no question about it. Im just dreading the idiots calling Brady "past it" when he doesnt replicate the 16 - 0 season after a season out with a serious injury, despite the fact that you just do not replicate 50 TD passes, 2nd Highest Passer Rating in History and close to 5,000 yards.

Tell you what. Fine.
I'll go replace Cassell, and only ask £300,000 a year. Then, if it doesn't work out, ill leave.

Theres no need to see me play honest Mr Kraft.

Still, importantly. I need the Steelers to win by 7 or more. Come on Steelers!

It does, but there's really no point in using it when they can just franchise him instead. I think its pretty much a certainty that Cassell will be franchised.

Transition still locks the player up to where another team would give up a 1 and 3 to sign. The salary would be less than a franchise tag, by some 3-5m. Believe it's top 10 average versus top 5.

But if Brady isnt fit and misses next season, retirement will be a pretty big possibility for him, as 2 years out is just too much to come back from ACL and MCL damage in 1 knee, although Brady has spoke of playing for another 10 years, so his determination is unquestionable and I expect him back.

He will be fine Eric, unless he damages the knee again. Worst case scenario, he is not ready to come back opening day but a few games in. Saw the interview you seem to be alluding to and he said he plans to play until he is 40, which is good to hear. Rumour is the recent rumours of a set back etc were fed to Tom Curran from the Pats in order to try and get the best value etc for Cassel in the event of a trade. Brady's camp were not very happy about it, which is why a swift denial was issued.

Why are the safeties standing so deep? Its obvious what play will be used, so once the snap, why is noone stepping up?

For 2009, its 12.5 million to transition tag a Quarterback for 2009. Cassell would cost £14 mill to franchise, not too much of a difference considering they have to do one or the other really. To be honest, even with the hit on salary cap, I think its within Pat's interests to franchise him and either have him take over from Brady if Brady isnt fit (because lets face it, we now know Cassel can perform on the big stage), or pick up some good trades for him.

If the Cards make any kind of close game of this, its the Steelers fault for not converting on 2 1st and goals from the 3.

I sure hope so. Its a big, big injury to come back from, and I doubt there's a Pats fan out there thats not nervous about how he will return. I fecking love Tom Brady.

Not that I wish injury on any player, but lots of non-Pats fans felt a bit of karma over Brady's injury after the running up the scores in 2007. Montana missed nearly two years with an elbow injury and was basically dumped out of San Francisco. That said, Steve Young was a beast and Cassell is nowhere near that level. He's solid though.

What a catch by Fitzgerald!

When did you put that bet on?

I bet £20 before the wildcards, and will get back £120 (£140 if you include my original £20) if Steelers win.

Just before the game. Last few years I have put silly bets on superbowl day.

feck. Im out on my bet by 1.

I bloody knew Warner and Fitzgerald would pull something out of the bag.

I was shocked they ran that quick slant at the end of the second quarter versus lobbing it up in the corner. No one can stop Fitzgerald at the moment on those passes. You never take that kind of chance against a zone defense like Pittsburgh (the quick slant within three yards of the goal because Pittsburgh tend to drop LBs/DLs into those zones).

To be honest, I find any criticism of a team running up scores to be just bitter. Pats were absolutely phenomenal that year, head and shoulders above any team Ive ever seen - I think they should have been allowed run up whatever scores they wanted. Of course, this could descend into an argument about Bill Belichick :D

Oh I'm sure there's plenty of bitterness, being a Cowboys fan I heard plenty of it in the 90s. That said, there's no reason for Brady to be tossing deep bombs to Moss up 21-35 points in the fourth quarter, of which the Pats did on more than one occasion. There is a thing called professionalism and sportsmanship.

BIG BIG SACK!

This is not over, not by a long shot, not if the defense can prevent this down.

Edit: And they do! 6 minutes for the Cards to take the lead.

Because you wouldnt want to win by more and have a better year would you?

Considering the form Brady and Moss were in that season, a catch was always more likely than a pick. But I know sportsmanship is a huge deal over in the US. I mean, I have no problem with the players being nice to each other, praising the opponent, helping people up off the ground etc. - it just annoys me that teams are expected to hold back when they ahead (much like the Nani showboating incident against l'Arse in the FA Cup last year...).

Huh? A win is a win, what's the difference in scoreline? Do they award style points for a forty point win?

No, but a major thing with american sports are records - most receiving, passing, rushing, TD's. Players love breaking them, so why wouldnt they try when they are on a good streak?

Was losing the Superbowl not enough 'Karma' rather than injury to a player who is important to the league as a whole? Believe it or not I did not enjoy that season as much as others like say, 2001 or 2005 to be honest, as I prefer defensive football. In terms of running up the score the only time I thought it was out of order was the Washington game. Belichick was on a mission that year, but should have let up on Gibbs a bit there.

I didn't see Nani showboating... I saw him avoiding a couple opponents and just so happened he did it with style. If the score was 1-0 and not 4-0 it wouldn't have been a big deal.
