What a clutch drive by Matt Ryan. The Falcons have to be Superbowl contenders at this point.

Last 2 seasons they've done great in the regular games and choked come playoffs. I think Ryan's playing a lot better this year and looks better, a bit like Flacco.

Panthers-Falcons was a great game. Panthers' defense was all over Ryan, sacking him 7(!) times. How Ryan managed that last drive with such confidence is admirable.

Another blown call for the Packers, ball clearly fumbled before the player was down. Bring back the replacements!

Entertaining game between the Packers and Saints.

Arizona 4-0, New Orleans 0-4

Washington win it on the FG, just about!

Very good drive from RG3 to get into position.

What a win for my Falcons today. :D Panthers' 1 yard line to a game winning field goal in 40 seconds - awesome.

The difference between both the offense and defense this year is plain to see and I feel quite vindicated in having called for both coordinators being replaced for the past few years.

We're no longer playing not to lose, 'bend, don't break' defense. Now we're aggressive and playing to win. Two of our best players so far this year (William Moore and Thomas DeCoud) were completely wasted up until this point, now they're able to show their ability and it's working out beautifully.

Our offense in general isn't nearly as conservative and Matt Ryan is playing like an MVP thus far and you can tell how much stronger he got in the off-season, he used to not be able to throw a deep ball to save his life and today he threw it about 65 yards in the air to Roddy White at the start of the final drive to essentially set us up to win the game. He's not making nearly as many bad throws and Roddy White, Julio Jones and Tony Gonzalez can make a legitimate case for the best receiving trio in the NFL.

What a hit that was from wilfork yesterday

I’m not very good at Fantasy Football. 2-6 in both of my leagues combined. 0-4 on the RedCafe one.

MrMarcello's First Quarter Roundup

Eagles: Scraping out wins; offense is explosive but turnover prone; defense is better; ST are shit
Cowboys: No O-Line; too many injuries; look distinctly average
Giants: Struggling; typical NYG post-Super Bowl lull; they're a late-season club
Redskins: Offensive identity found with RG3; defense still suspect; if DAL/NYG flounder the Skins could sneak in but doubtful

Vikings: Complete fluke; they will inevitably fall apart
Bears: They have all the weapons to make a run at the division title
Packers: They appear to have peaked last season; defense suspect at times; O-Line struggles against some schemes
Lions: No running game; shoddy defense

Falcons: Class of the NFC at the moment; Ryan and offense clicking; defense holding up
Panthers: Cam can't do it by himself; Cam needs to stop losing the ball; defense still suspect
Bucs: They will be in a lot of games late but just do not have the pedigree to win most
Saints: Ouch; should draft only defense and O-Line in 2013

Cardinals: Exceptional defense with an explosive group of offensive players
49ers: That loss in Minnesota aside, this team is full of class; They should have pursued Manning much harder IMO but Smith is a great bus driver
Rams: Average group
Seahawks: Great on D inexperienced on O

Patriots: Suspect on D; have found a steady running game; built for regular season and will most likely fall apart in January
Dolphins: Tannehill looks a solid QB; Bush is doing fine; will play most games close
Bills: Crap
Jets: Double crap and Sanchez will be the scapegoat deservedly/undeservedly

Ravens: Flacco is steady, defense is aging and missing Suggs
Steelers: Not the same team of 2-3 years ago; still have a top QB and good HC
Bengals: As long as Dalton plays the way he has this team could make a run at the division
Browns: Utter shit though Trent is going to be an awesome RB and Weeden looks a solid QB in the making

Texans: Class of the AFC so far; awesome defense; steady offense with ability to move the ball and milk the clock
Titans: QB questions/health concerns; Johnson has regressed after his contract
Jaguars: What is this team's identity? Average all over
Colts: Luck has the highest QBR in the league - astonishing for a rookie

Broncos: Manning should make this average team a playoff side
Chargers: Finally playing up to par in the first half; Turner is a shit HC though, he'll feck it up somehow
Raiders: Lots of talent but no leadership
Chiefs: Smells like shit, looks like shit

Rams an "average group" - hmm, you then go on to say Seattle are great on D. Well, the Rams are just as good as evidenced by their win last night.

Highlighted by the fact St Louis also played Seattle's inexperienced offense. The Rams are clearly an average bunch, which in that division can win 8 games give or take. Neither are near the class of San Francisco, and Arizona on current form.

I should note that St Louis have a talented QB (if he can stay healthy) and a premier RB (wasting his best years at the moment) and that carries their offense so far. Without them they are truly fecked offensively.

It’s funny how the NFC West has turned around defensively in such a short space of time.

Three of the best in the league and the Rams have some pieces too. Maybe a safety or two away.

I feel much better about the Patriots defense than the one that played its best in the Playoffs last year and they will continue to improve. A running game and base tight end set is also a good thing to have in January. However, I like the Texans or Ravens to progress further at this point due to the balance and make up of the teams. That Watt led defense is nasty.

No he doesn't. Jackson has been crap so far, and has not carried the offense at all. Strange that your analysis seems to not really cover this season. Amendola is the offensive game changer at the minute.

The defense is definitely the highlight of the team. Long and Quinn as DEs with Finnegan at CB who has 4 picks already I believe. Not to mention Janoris Jenkins who has looked very good so far.

Also a bit lazy when it comes to other teams. KC have just as much talent as Oakland if not more IMO, yet aren't clicking after quite a few have come back from long-term injuries. Vikings aren't just a fluke - may not be a playoff team but holding Detroit to 6 points is clearly impressive, not to mention Ponder maturing and Peterson returning as his old self.

Overstating the Cardinals a touch too because of their 4-0, looked very porous against Miami.

OTHER than that (that still leaves the majority of teams!), fair analysis.

Detroit look sorely lacking at the moment so no surprise they are losing.

Regardless if Jackson isn't the focal point he's still good enough that opposing defenses have to respect the Rams can run the ball, thus opening up the defense for your boy Danny to get open. Jenkins does look good, also a dirty hitter but maybe every team needs a guy like that. But they are 2-2 so don't get your knickers in a twist that I called them average. Some of my punditry is for comedy.

KC and Oakland are both not that good IMO; you're looking too far into what I posted to find some reason to complain.

I stand by the Vikings being a fluke at the moment. We see this every season where a surprise team gets off to a hot start and fade eventually.

I stated about Arizona is true - they have an exceptional defense, which they clearly do. They have some nice weapons on offense and winning with a below par QB.

I'm 1-3. I keep benching players and then they have big games costing me valuable points. I got Tate of waivers and he's done feck all since.

Int returned for six and an Int inside the red zone... Romo will get the blame but his receivers cost him both times. The INT for six was a bad route by Bryant (went deep instead of a hitch) and the redzone INT came off Ogletree's hands. Romo has made some plays today including somehow emerging from a collapsed pocket to find Bryant in the red zone and on the next play hitting Austin for a score.

Now a second INT returned for six on a broken down pass play in which his line collapsed (trend) and he tries to flick the pass to a receiver and his arm is hit and the ball goes right to a defender. That can be pinned on him and/or the O-Line but it was an exceptional defensive play.

Ugh. He gets far too much criticism basically because he's the Dallas QB. Easily a top 10 QB.

Cardinals and the Redskins are the surprise packages for me this season. Every big team is kinda struggling otherwise.

I'm getting crushed in fantasy. Jamaal Charles is all that's keeping me remotely respectable. feck Matt Stafford. And Ryan Matthews, though I really should have known better. Lost tonight by 2 points on that Marshall td.

I'm 1-3. Two of my losses were because my matchup was against the only person in the league that outscored me and I would have blown out anyone else. Bad luck.

2nd out of 10 teams in points scored in FFB. 1-3 record. Ridiculous. More than 200 more points against than the next highest. The FFB gods hate me.

Amendola suffered a broken collarbone. Sucks for him. Still trying to figure out how both Dallas and Philadelphia let him leave without ever playing a regular season game.

An interesting stat I heard prior to last night's game (I always forget about Thursday night games unless it's the Cowboys playing), the Cardinals were the first team to start 4-0 without gaining at least 300 net yards offensively. It's like the 2000 Ravens (not that I have their stats but I just recall they were a defense only unit). And last night they again failed to gain 300 net yards with all the sacks.

As I said, you overrated the Cards. The Rams have a good defence but the Arizona O don't have enough weapons to make up for Kolb.

Looking forward to this Sunday for the Patriots v Broncos, great QB battle

Tom Brady v Peyton Manning

Unless they meet in the playoffs, tomorrow will most likely be the last time Brady-Manning face each other. It will be interesting how Gostowski plays, was unusually poor against the Bills last week.

Should be a great day of sport tomorrow: Utd game, el clasico & then this

I really enjoy A Football Life, caught up with the Ray Lewis and Cleveland 95 ones earlier.

The parts involving the terminally ill fan in the Ray Lewis one (aside from the preaching) and learning more about the roles of Dimitroff, Pioli, Newsome, Mangini, Schwartz etc were good. In fact, I think it should have been less about Belichick and more focused on the people under him and Modell moving the team. Maybe the structure of the show was changed a bit after his death.

Greg Cosell also does a terrific X’s and O’s Podcast for Yahoo. RIP Steve Sabol.

This is like the 50k thread but on the same page and shit, look 8 posts up Bebe

They were 4-0 with a great defense. I guess all those former NFL players turned pundits were wrong as well.

I don't recall any person predicting 16-0.

They put up 3 points against the 'average' Rams. And it wasn't even a close game. I'm not saying they're a bad team, but some of those games they won could easily have gone either way. I don't see them being that much better than a team like the Vikings, for example, who have had a good start too.

Steelers win a very important game with the clutch FG.

Time for the battle of the greats...

No Donta Hightower today, I heard the Gronk was questionable, is he in do you know?
