Neymar joins PSG on a five year deal

I can for the life of me not understand, what the third best player (and possibly soon best) in the world would do in Ligue 1 at 25.

His ego must be the size of the moon, if it's only because he want's to be the main man.

That's just fantasy, the reality is that PSG don't answer to the phone, so it's useless to go after a player that they didn't put on the transfer market.

And PSG aren't after Neymar because of Verratti, they have wanted a player like Neymar forever.
They have but they could have just tried getting him earlier. This seems more than just coincidence. Sure they may not answer the phone but none of their players were getting tapped up earlier, especially not as high profile as Veratti.

You can't understand why he wants to make 30 million net a year and earn his father another 40 million?

Sore loser
I won't be able to sleep tonight because Barca doesn't have 3 of the world's best 5 players anymore, but only 2, among them the guy considered to be the best ever by a plethora of experts, top managers, and football legends. On top of that there is a real danger that Barca might get 2 world class talents like Coutinho and Dembele. That's some kind of Greek tragedy right there.

Erm, it's because of money primarily. The rest is secondary.

His ego probably is the size of the moon.

And he probably likes money.

But apart from those two factors, he probably likes the "project" as well if he indeed signs. If PSG manage to strengthen so significantly that they become an actual contender for the CL, the "Ligue 1 is shite" argument will carry less weight. Winning the CL will shut people up.

Maybe you missed it but their players have been tapped up earlier. Real Madrid tried with Verratti but realized that it was pointless, Barcelona tried with Thiago Silva and Marquinhos they realized that it was pointless but they seem to be a bit slow. Someone tried with Matuidi too but Raiola squashed it quickly and we know that clubs are always around Rabiot. The problem is that it doesn't work because PSG don't negotiate and most of these players are way too lose to the president.

But on point, there is no conspiracy here PSG want Neymar because he is in some ways the "next Messi" and Barcelona want Verratti because he is supposed to be the next "Xavi", in both cases we have known that for years, both clubs aren't selling and both clubs try to convince the players to throw a tantrum.

You think Neymar gives the smallest of fecks about how the French league is rated by the general public? Cmon man.

Of course he does. It's the general public that makes football what it is today. If anything Neymar is the epitome of today's pop culture.

There is no guarantee that you will get either of those players.

Both their clubs are not willing sellers. Especially this late into the window.

Then Barca will have lost one of their best players, and end up with a pile of cash which every seller will know they have.

We'll see what happens. Mind you, a Barca with Alcacer and no Neymar is still good enough to beat Madrid on Bernabeu while scoring 3 goals and missing 3 golden chances on top of that.

Hate to say it but you're overestimating the impact of the general public when it comes to a Neymar making a decision about his future. Whether the masses consider the French league a substandard league or a proper one wouldn't bother him in the slightest. There are too many things that make it worth moving there for him, the challenge of making it look a proper league isn't one of them.

I don't.

It was in response to someone who claimed he didn't understand why he'd go there.

I do think he gives a feck about being recognized, though - and he won't be properly recognized if he doesn't win the CL with PSG. That's my prediction, anyway. People will label him an utter mercenary until that happens - precisely because the French league is considered shite (not entirely fairly, but that's another matter) by the general public.

If PSG win the CL, there will be no questions asked - from most. Then it won't matter that the league as such is weak - that is, it won't matter for Neymar's recognition/reputation.

Neymar has made the decision based on two things only. Money, and the chance to play in a team full of Brazilians.

That doesn't mean he doesn't care or doesn't know that he is going away from the spotlight.

CL is overrated. It's basically 4-5 top games a year. Most of the season is built on the league you play in.

So if Neymar leaves, are Barça still buying Coutinho?

Barca have been struggling to find Xavi's replacement, soon they will have to find Iniesta's, and now they are on the brink of losing the perfect heir of Messi. How can they let this happening?

Carles Alena. Remember this name. We have found our Xavi / Iniesta successor.

Should be done by tuesday. Never thought it could happen. Money rules all.

He feels undervalued, yet he recently signed an extension.

This is a blessing in disguise. Instead of Ronaldinho part 2 we get 222m.

I think they will need to buy two more players. One to replace iniesta(not offered a new contract and has entered last 12 months of his deal), and one to replace neymar. If i were madrid, i would buy Mbappe and turn the league supremacy towards myself for forseeable future. The biggest problem for barca is Suarez and messi are both 30 too, they are seling or are forced to sell their own most priced asset around whom they would have built the next 5 years.

Coutinho although a great player will be huge downgrade to Neymar, even if they go for veratti/dybala, they wont be able to get the quality of neymar. Big big loss for barca. This will hurt the club for years and years.

I think keeping neymar in footballing terms would have been better as you do not know how the 222 million will be spent. Recent buying of barcelona has been very shit. I think they could even waste it all and like spurs get no value out of it.

But you paid a huge amount for him and paid a huge penalty on top of that apparently (another 80m?) so you're not making much of a profit.

Your 3 sentences have no cohesion. What is your proof that Neymar gives a flying feck about what the public thinks of Ligue 1?

He said he wants to win th BD. Who is the last player who won a BD while playing in a league that is outside the big 4?

I think the huge money he's set to make from the move, the fact that he'll now play with his mates from the NT and the fact that he's going to be the king there is enough for him to not care about the rest. As you said, he knows he's going to be branded a mercenary and the CL being a KO tournament with so many factors involved, he wouldn't have moved there with such a big caveat if his image/legacy was so important for him. I guess he knows Brazilians will worship him anyways so there's that.

Bingo on the first paragraph.

He knows and doesn't care because there's much more to gain here which overshadow what the general public thinks.

If you invest correctly this time I think your squad will end up being better.

But it's still a huge hit to your reputation/stature to lose a player of his caliber to PSG.

Moving the clubs in order to be undisputed FK taker in your club seems tad overdramatic to me.

He said he wants to win th BD. Who is the last player who won a BD while playing in a league that is outside the big 4?

If he wins the CL and Ligue 1 it's hard to see how he'll be denied the Ballon D'Or.

Why is Ligue 1 below the others? PSG and Monaco have outperformed Serie A and the PL in the Champions League, in previous years.

We'll make it a lesson in our favor by winning the CL next season.

By all means - you'll get no argument from me there. I mentioned ego and money before I mentioned the CL thing - but to give the fecker a minimum of credit, I guess we can include a possible French Galactico "project" in his reasons for joining, i.e. the possibility of them buying so much talent that they'll actually become a real threat (which they've been on the verge of becoming for some time now).

When is the last time a BD worthy player played in a league outside the big 4?
