Neymar Da Silva

Signing Neymar could mean that they're going to get neither Luiz nor Ramires which would be fine by me because they need both of them more than they need Neymar. But thinking about it, they need Neymar as well as their front line is short and old - Anelka and Drogba won't be at this level for much longer.

Ramires has passed the medical already, the delay in announcing his signing is due to obtaining the work permit.

I don't know how true the Neymar rumors are, but it's a fact that we had a previous bid of 17m turned down since Santos president himself confirmed it.

The latest rumor about the deal nearly done originated in Folha de Sao Paulo which is the largest paper in Brazil, so while it may turn out to be BS, there's a chance it has some truth to it.

In any case, the fact that Chelsea were willing to spend on the youngster on top of what they already paid for Ramires contradicts the point you're trying to make.

Wasn't having a go at you, but wouldn't you be surprised if they went out and spent £35m+ on Neymar and Ramires? I would. That's kind of the point, we were wondering how much he'd tightened the purse strings - if this went through it'd be a lot less than I thought. I'd agree that they're not going to spend big like they did under Ranieri/Mourinho initially, but that's because they don't need that major investment in the short-term either. Three young, talented, versatile Brazilians in each position would go a long way.

Somewhat surprised they'd go for Neymar ahead of Ganso because out of all the English teams I'd say Chelsea's be the one Ganso could make it in, but then Neymar's versatility and Chelsea's tendency to rotate between two and three up top was probably one of the key factors.

I thought the Ramires move seemed pretty dead on, likely to go through soon. I'd agree the other two are both just rumours currently - with more weight to the Neymar link, it seems - but really we can't no about any of them. Just saying if they were to go through they'd be very sensible moves all-round with Neymar able to play in a two or a three, up top or on the wing, Ramires able to play in a two or a three in the centre, and David Luiz able to play in the middle or cover at left back, and they're all very young.

I didn't know they already agreed a fee for Ramires, so I was a bit mistaken. Certainly them spending £35m on two new players goes to show that Abramovich makes money available when it's needed, my other point about them being reluctant to pay over the odds stands though. :smirk:

The agent of Santos whi Neymar says the youngster wants a move to Chelsea.

Santos are fighting to keep the 18-year-old and even accused the Blues of tapping up the youngster, something that has been denied by chairman Bruce Buck.

But, despite the striker claiming he is happy at Santos, his representative insists a deal can be done.

"Neymar does not want an improved contract with Chelsea," explained his agent Wagner Ribeiro to Radio Globo.

"What he wants is to further his career and become the best player in the world.

"That is why Chelsea are the best option. Neymar wants to go to Europe."

Why is joining Chelsea the best option for a young player looking to further his career?

Surely United or Arsenal are a far better option?

Actually Chelsea would be very attractive for a young player I'd think because a lot of their top players edging to the older side. Arse and and us do have a lot of young players that they'd be competing against. Not necessarily Neymar as he might be a couple levels above the young players at either club.

Chelsea are seemingly looking to get younger and seem to pay well, they are willing to reinforce and competing at the highest levels - so for a young player that wants to be the best - not a bad destination.

That said - hope they get dinged for tapping up and the transfer is rejected.

Chelsea's attempts to sign Brazilian teenager Neymar hit an impasse yesterday when the player's club Santos offered to make him their highest-paid player and refused to consider any offer less than their £29m valuation.

The negotiations to sign Neymar have reached the stage where Chelsea officials are considering withdrawing to pursue alternative targets or risk being forced to pay way beyond what they consider reasonable for an 18-year-old. The Santos president, Luis Alvaro Oliveira, has briefed the Brazilian media that the player's price is non-negotiable and he will not budge.

Chelsea have already missed out on Fernando Torres and Mesut Ozil this summer, two players who, at different points during the last three months, they were fairly confident of signing. Neymar is the new young star of Brazilian football and Santos have organised a concerted effort to keep him away from European clubs unless they get their prohibitively high price.

The club are understood to have offered Neymar a rise from his existing salary of 160,000 Brazilian Reais (£58,000 a month) a month to 600,000 Reais (£220,000 a month) as well as a share of commercial deals. The talks have taken place between the player's father, Neymar Silva, and his agent, Wagner Ribeiro. They have not agreed to anything but Santos are confident they will persuade the player to stay.

In Brazil it is thought that the impetus behind the move to Chelsea is coming from Ribeiro and the player's father rather than Neymar himself. The player has said that he is not interested in "playing in the reserves". He and his representatives have told Santos that they will respond to their contract offer tomorrow.

Chelsea have already had an offer of £17m for the player rejected and there has been a suggestion that they would be prepared to go as high as £23m. Paying that much for an 18-year-old would, regardless of his talent, represent an enormous gamble for the club. It has not exactly helped their cause that Mano Menezes, the new Brazil coach, has also publicly declared that Neymar should not leave.

Chelsea have signed Yossi Benayoun from Liverpool and Ramires from Benfica this summer but they have not yet managed to bring in the high-profile name that would really capture the imagination. Neymar is not an established international – he made his Brazil senior debut this month – but such is the competition now even for relatively unproven players he would still represent a coup.

The club say their manager, Carlo Ancelotti, has no interest in signing the Brazilian Benfica defender David Luiz, 23, as a replacement for Ricardo Carvalho. Instead the suggestion is that they have alternative targets in Brazil if the Neymar deal falls through. The other great hope in Brazilian football is Paulo Henrique Ganso, who also plays for Santos and made his Brazil debut in the friendly against the United States this month.

Chelsea have denied any suggestion that the acquisition of the Dutch Eredivisie club Vitesse Arnhem by the Georgian businessman Merab Jordania has any connection with Roman Abramovich. Jordania is a friend of the Chelsea owner but the English club say that reports linking Abramovich and the finances to buy Vitesse are inaccurate. However, there could be an agreement to loan players between the two clubs.

Chelsea's Brazilian defender Alex da Costa has said that Ramires, an £18.5m signing, could make a similar impact at the club as Michael Essie. Alex said: "I was talking with Jose Bosingwa and we were saying how Ramires is a lot like Michael Essien.

"He's not as strong as Essien but he has the same style on the pitch. He goes forward very quickly, then he comes back and marks very well. He's a very good player. It's very important for me and the team that the midfielders go to shoot and arrive at the goal but then get back to mark.

"He's almost the same as Michael Essien like that, so I am expecting a lot of goals, which is important for us. He will get to play with Michael Essien, John Obi Mikel and Frank Lampard, we have a very good midfield group and he will do a great job for us."

Neymar just announced he's staying at Santos.

Got a great contract out of his club using Chelsea interest. Nicely done.

Brazils future is Pato-Neymar not to mention Ganso... with possibly Anderson partnering if he actually reaches his full potential with us.

so 2 players who have never been tested in the top competitions have a better chance of making it than Anderson?

He's been fighting with his coach apparently. He missed a few penalties a few weeks back and someone else took one and he threw a fit. The manager decided to suspend him despite a derby match at the weekend. So the board sacked the manager and to be sure he'd play. They still lost.

Why does he want to play for Juventus out of the five clubs that are interested in, I will never know. He is bloody talented though.

Neymar ready for 'European adventure' with Juventus - Transfers - ESPN Soccernet

Santos starlet Neymar is ready to leave Brazil and test himself in Europe, revealing that of the "five big clubs" interested in him, Juventus would be his preferred destination.

Chelsea tried to buy Neymar in the summer

Neymar, 18, was tracked by Chelsea over the summer but surprisingly signed a new contract with Santos in August amid serious interest from the Premier League champions.

The Blues were reportedly willing to pay £25 million for his services, but Santos increased the teenage striker's salary in a bid to convince him to stay.

However, Neymar has now issued a come-and-get me plea to Europe's biggest clubs, revealing that a number of them have already moved to acquire his signature - with a potential move to Juventus proving particularly enticing for the Brazil international.

"There are five big clubs interested in me: Juventus, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Manchester United and Inter Milan," Neymar told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"The proposal that I like most is that from Juventus. They have great worldwide appeal. Inter have prestige. Ronaldo played there and he is one of my idols, but I prefer Juventus. I say this without problems - I'd willingly wear the Bianconeri jersey."

Santos are believed to have inserted a £40 million release clause into Neymar's new contract in August in a bid to ward off approaches from abroad, though the young forward is still confident of securing a move away from his homeland.

"The club's officials have said that I'm not for sale," he said. "But I don't think the same. This may be the right time to try the European adventure."

Hes speaking to an Italian newspaper, hes bound to blow smoke up their arses in that sense, most players do it, if he were talking to the Sun hed probably have mentioned Chelsea and ourselves likewise to the spanish media.

Interesting to note were interested in him, believe Fergie was in Doha watching the Brazil-Argentina match tonight to.....

He supposed to be a total drama queen. Another Robinho he could turn out to be. I would way prefer us to sign Ganso instead.

didn't they also sign another talented Brazilian two three years ago, what happened to him?
