I'm not laying it all on Ole mate, mistakes were made by the board when it comes to hiring managers. Because the board went for candidates who were either winners or prem proven. Ole got the job quite fortunately after we were reportedly courting Pochettino. And our issue was that we didn't hire managers based on the modern game but rather on what I've described above.

But we were on the right track with Pochettino but Solskjaer ended getting the job. And as much as I wanted him to do well, I did predict on here last year that we could be in a position next season where we have to part ways with Solskjaer. And that's whats happened and there's always gonna be after effects in such circumstances.

I'm not saying the current recruitment team will be successful. All I'm saying is that for a head coach to be successful, he needs to embrace a big group of people already at the club. And with aid of the DoF, the head coach can take advantage by aligning the recruitment staff towards his vision for the club. And that's something we haven't done with our previous two managers who wanted their personal recruitment staff and were granted their wish by the board.

And there's also a arrogance that still exists among a certain someone at the club who because he worked under Fergie, he feels no one else knows better. He feels that having such big recruitment teams (scouting & data science) are only due to clubs having lots of money. And this chap is none other than Mike Phelan, who not only doesn't pay much attention to data analytics (in his own words) but also has a flawed understanding of the modern game where he doesn't believe in working on player weaknesses but would rather work on just player strengths. And those were his own words. And he's also tweeted many times that he knows best because he's walked the walked under Fergie. Having this guy as a adviser was detrimental for Solskjaer imo.

I also hope I didn't upset anyone with my thoughts on Phelan. And I think the quicker he leaves the club the better. He's a complete and utter dinosaur imo.
Woodward was making the right noises in the post-Mourinho era about wanting to get a DoF in before appointing the next manager. Whatever got to him after Paris has certainly set us back five or so years. We are exactly where LVG left us, a dysfunctional uninterested squad with so many holes in it but still in need of a clear out. If Ten Hag or whoever comes in cannot get a tune out of Rashford, Maguire, Shaw, Sancho and Bruno we are in for a long protracted rebuild.

This is why I was for Rangnick to continue for the next 18 months so as for him to do the heavy lifting needed to streamline the squad and replace the rotten apples with young, hungry players. I don't think that option is still on the table though due to poor results and flat performances but to me that's the best way out because ETH is going to have to rely on a lot of these players since he cannot sign a new squad in one window and I fear that it will be his undoing like the four who came in before him.

I completely agree with what you're saying.

And I fully expect the board to back the head coach and recruitment team.

I’m glad he’s doing it right. The club is a mess, and if he is to have a fighting chance, he needs to be given certain assurances and control.

we need to either get our heads out or just give up all together.

Because they have a outstanding young coach with world class potential who has done a fantastic job for them since the sacking of their previous coach.
So that means they wouldnt want to bring Ten Hag in now. I wouldn't be so sure about that.
RB Leipzig are flying right now under Tedesco and have beaten BvB 4-1 in recent weeks, and they're currently leading Hoffenheim 3-0 at half-time. It also make little for sense for ten Hag to join Leipzig when he's complained about losing key players constantly to other clubs. So it makes no sense for him to join another stepping stone club for the reasons stated.

And the below is news from a Dutch source who says that RB Leipzig did have talks with ten Hag at the beginning of April but he's set to takeover at United.

So they talked to him early April even though they are happy with their current manager and had no intention to hire Ten Hag?

That's whats reported but it makes no sense for them to do that unless Tedesco wants to leave.

And it also makes no sense for ten Hag because he in his own words wants to compete for the champions league and is frustrated due to the key players he loses every season. That wouldn't change at Leipzig who are also a stepping stone club, and it would be more of a sideways move for him.

I must admit it would be very strange and very United to have finally got a structure in place with DOF etc only to appoint a manager that wants full say on transfers.

Good luck to whoever gets this job, you watch the game today and it feels like we are playing a different sport. At this point this job is a golden opportunity to become a legend at a huge club but the probability of achieving that is not very high so credit to whoever takes it

But he's not asking for full control, word for word the Tweet above:
Erik ten Hag wants it made clear by #mufc that he will have a significant say in signings and departures

It is quite possible that the season might get even worse. United should announce the appointment now, with or without all due respect to Ajax.

That would do well for future business with Ajax, really really well. Other clubs would appreciate that too.

Spot on, all clubs and businesses should be ran on petulance and impatience

Would you not rather be out of any European competition? Once Pogba said "there season is dead" it showed the players have already given up, which is shocking, but a year of full weeks of training under Ten Hag might be what you need.

I’d rather we announce some form of pre-agreement with Ajax, stating that Ten Hag will become manager of Man United once the Dutch season is complete. We wish Erik and Ajax all the best in their title campaign and will be making no further comment until the deal is finalised.

Takes away the uncertainty, may give Ajax room to concentrate without speculation, and may even give our players a kick up the backside knowing that the new boss is coming.

Close to making decision, by one of the best sources around, is not quite 'done deal'

So he's privy to the club stance on this and how far on they are in negotiations, and also Hag inner thinking ie he hasn't made a decision yet? Or we assuming someone at the club in the know is telling him this, I'm not buying it. They've been filling the gaps for couple weeks now because it can't be announced. Dropping curve balls daily on different demands etc that are contradicting one and the other.

Half these articles sounding like waffle to be honest.

The over complication and apparent knowledge of every aspect from both sides is very tiresome at the moment.

guys of course its done

several journalists all announcing it together like this, it can't be guesswork.. they wouldn't risk burning their reps over it

terms were agreed and then it leaked which is inevitable as he will obviously tell friends and family

all that's left is minor details if that

I simply go with Simon Stone from BBC there are other credible journalists as well when it comes to United but If Stones is reporting it it's directly from United , if there are any issues as some of these Journalists are claiming which I am not buying any way I would expect Stone to report it eventually if it doesn't happen then it's just matter when not if for the formal announcement.

Seems like I was right when I said I doubt they would announce it before the cup final against PSV. But by this point hasn't it become more of a distraction not announcing it? I mean, the man had to explicitly tell the journos to ask him about the game, not Manchester United... and they still kept asking him about Manchester United. I wonder how this uncertainty is affecting the players as well? Wouldn't they prefer to know what's next and make their plans accordingly?

I think he sends a positive message to his players on the contrary. That his focus is the final and theirs should be too.

I think some are concerned about the tweets from yesterday where Ten Hag requested more direct control of the club regards new signings, releasing players he doesn't want and training regimes.

I'm sure he'll have all his requests granted, though.

Yeah, I am sure too. We've backed every manager so far.

In this 'dead period' between a deal being agreed and announced the press fill the void with some light-hearted drama. It's an easy win for a journalist as they can't get proven wrong. If he joins it's because United caved, and if he doesn't it's because they didn't.

the reality being its done and both clubs are waiting for the mutually agreed date to announce.

I’m looking forward to the usual ‘positive’ PR leaks after a poor performance. Happens every time.

New contract for Jones it is then..
