For once even the fans can clearly see that despite results tailing off, Rangnick is who we need having an influence at the club. I've never seen the manager choice be this clear from the fans.

I suspect its because we've all reached realisation that it's not the manager but the players fault now. And we need a manager that can do an efficient overhaul that leaves a good long term squad.

The Rangnick thread is quite frequent of posters blaming him for our slump in form, some posters still fail to recognise our players are at fault.

I agree.

Excluding any players who arrived last year, I don't think there's too many players left that have any goodwill remaining with the fans. Fred, Bruno and maybe De Gea at a push. The rest are all on borrowed time, and a lot of the fans now see it. This is, by some margin, the most dislikeable group of of self serving players we've had since Ferguson retired, and I think the penny has finally dropped, for both fans and those within the club. The dressing room and the player power within it needs purging, and it'll start this summer.

Maybe we needed to hit rock bottom for the tide to turn, but I'm actually feeling pretty positive ahead of next season. Providing we can get ETH over the line, of course.
 
ETH or Poch will have their work cut out for them if they keep the core of this team. Such a mismatch squad and styles, some can't even play 90 minutes. The rebuild job is too big for one summer, it needs to start now really but it seems to be quiet and board are doing what they do best, sit back and watch.
 
If I were ETH I wouldn't leave Ajax for this team, especially considering he's going to be saddled with alot of these wasters. The worst United team I think i've ever seen in my lifetime
 
Ten Hag or any top manager would be absolutely mad coming to this shitshow, stay at Ajax another year or two and he'd probably get a much better job
 
The best candidate for the job is Benitez. He’s used to being hated by our fans and laughed at by everyone else.
 
The people who were bemused by Ten Hag's demands for taking over this week vastly underestimate the magnitude of the job the next manager will be required to undertake if they want us to be contenders once more.

I'd need all the assurances and backing in the world before signing up for this. It's good that he seemingly has no allusions regarding the uphill battle he'll face and wants the autonomy and control to do things his way.

With Ed already feck off, hope his mate Arnold learnt from his mistakes and focus on the things he knows best - finance. Leave football side to Murtough.

The main question is, is Murtough the right person to bring the club forward? The jury is still out. I know it's hindsight, Murtough already made a massive mistake with Rangnick appointment as interim. He was brought in promising modern gegenpressing football but abandon the philosophy half way into his tenure.

The top managers would come nowhere near us if they are a good judge of squad quality.

Wouldn’t blame the man either but the fallout on social media would be epic.
 
Ten Hag will have to ask himself whether he has the stomach for Europa League or Europa Conf League.

tbf. for any decent manager coming in, the expectations will be pretty low for the next season after looking at the dross served out yesterday. That can be a good thing.

The expectations of Ralf were pretty high at the start. And now it's hit reality levels.

Danny is saying what myself and several others have been saying for years. It's a pity it took this long for Danny to realise that the next manager coming in won't fix everything, whilst being afforded the luxury of having his personal recruitment staff.

And because the above occurred for a number years, it will now take some time to rectify the problems that stem from the above approach. So what's happening now isn't really a surprise to me, and i'm seeing this as a road to recovery and there will be bumps in the road. So fasten your seat belts and put on your nappies/diapers because we're about to go on a roller-coaster ride.

I think it's well and good in saying that we are behind other clubs in terms of structure and all that and how no manager can have any impact till thats sorted out, but it misses one important point good managers can still have positive impact and it can allow this so called broken structure breathing space to reform and rectify their mistakes quietly without so much fuss and pressure .

We would still continue to make mistakes and won't get everything right even if we could get the best people running the show but if Coach can maintain some decent standard on the field things would become much more easier and smoother in the long run .

You just just have to look at Liverpool last season their so called dream backroom team left Klopp hanging dry but he was still able to maintain decent standard on the field and now they are doing business once again this season .
 
I am wondering if Ten Hag really wants to come to this mess. He has a fairly decent job in a surrounding he knows, and if he keeps doing great better good opportunities will appear.
Coming to us means building everything from scratch, locking horns with certain players and the awful people above etc.
Massive pressure from the start and even if you work your ass off there is a big chance you are going to fail. And as you are new there is no benefit of doubt as he got no credit like he has at Ajax because of his positive work in the past.
If I was him I would wait 1 or 2 years and look for something where the structures are in a place and I could concentrate on my real job - improving the footballing side of things.
 


I‘m guessing Mitchell van der Gaag is a given that comes with ETH? But then again looking at his background, van der Gaag has only worked with ETH for barely a full year. He’s hardly ETH’s long serving right hand.

We are behind in many ways but one thing that has been our main problem during the disastrous time post SAF is that we never had a manager that has been rated very highly on the day we got him. LVG and Jose are football dinosaurs and the least said about Moyes and Ole the better. I completely disagree with "no manager can improve anything until the structure above completely changes" notion because a good manager will be able to have a positive influence, we just never had one.

These dross posts are annoying and contribute nothing to the topic.

“Why would any good manager come to United?”, “they’d be stupid” etc etc

Go and wallow in self pity elsewhere. The season has been grim. We all know it. Tell us something we don’t know.

The club needs to get through the end of the season and start a fresh. It’s making the right moves behind the scenes are by looking at getting EtH in.

Fair play to him. He wants a set up in place to allow him to succeed. If we can’t offer that, then kudos to him for walking away. However, I can’t imagine we’d make it so public that we wanted him and he was our preferred choice, without being confident that we’ll give him what he wants.
