Interesting.

It's a fair point, but I still don't see how Poch would be the solution. I'd rather we actually put the work in to build that sort of structure while backing ETH, than simply appointing Poch and hoping he could have us around the top 4 places before inevitably sacking him.

That's the point, if they chose Poch they are going for the option that makes as little disruption as possible, when actually the club needs a right old shake up from top to bottom. I would love to see what ETH could do with the kids we have coming through. It's not the first time we have had talented kids, but for some reason the manager in charge had this knack of ignoring the real talent and promoting some run of the mill footballer. We need someone who is given time, who has a real eye for talent and is not scared to integrate them.

Yeah hard to disagree with that.

Even with the nature of our owners, surely they have to realise that longevity and sustained success is more conducive to them leaching profits off the club, than simply hiring and firing managers every 3 years, and wasting millions in transfers and wages on players who aren't going to bring the club any success. Even the sponsorships will dry up once we plunge further into mediocrity.

I mean Liverpool's owners are also the same breed of apathetic American owners who don't care for anything but milking the club. But they were smart enough to realise that cultivating a proper football structure was essential to that in the long term.

Your question is a pretty important one; how do you define success? I think that for the moment, the definition of success has to be lowered from title challenge/ CL win (the classic Utd definition of the last 30 years) which I think you are a long distance away from, to establishing an effective and organised style of football, moving with the times. If I was the next Utd manager I’d be cutting my losses on a whole bunch of players- your central midfield for a start, centre backs who aren’t comfortable on the ball, and full backs who can’t consistently attack and add width. I think it’s a tough one, and the short term effects of say, getting rid of Maguire, AWB, McTominay, Fred, Bailly all at financial losses will mean tough times in the short term. But I don’t see another way. Of course you have to believe, I mean literally what other option is there. I just think it’s an awful lot to ask of a relatively young manager without much experience outside of Holland, where Ajax are by far the biggest and richest team.

I know city had money to burn when Pep took over, but he was absolutely ruthless in getting rid of pretty much the whole defence and GK. He realised that you can’t do things by half, and I think that’s been Utd’s problem recently. They’ve brought managers in and on paper committed to wholesale changes but I don’t think they’ve ever really heard the balls to follow it through. To be prepared to sell or bench big money players on huge salaries at whatever cost to the finances of the club. Just my opinion, i definitely don’t have all the answers!

If the board goes for Poch, City will get ETH.
Then just wait for this place to implode after a run of poor results with Poch.

The kids coming through look pretty amazing. Just what ETH will want to work with.

I would say we should settle it now and announce it as well as announce Rangnick in consultancy role. This way, players will be more motivated that they know who the new manager is and why it's important to show Rangnick that you are good enough because Rangnick will play important role to give advice to the new manager about the players.

Ten Hag has performed "miracles" in every club he's been to.

Go Ahead Eagles (2012-2013):
Promotion to the top tier after 17 years at second tier.

Bayern Munchen 2 (2013-2015):
Win rate of 67%. No other manager has done that or better since.

Utrecht (2015-2017):
Took them to their best league position since 1981 in his first season(5th)
Europa League and 4th the following season.

Ajax hadn't won the league for three years when Ten Hag took over.

You jest, but you are absolutely right. Looks like they haven't even contacted Ten Hag, just like I thought. :lol: I'm willing to bet no other managers were ever considered. It was always Poch. The rest were red herrings to make us think they are doing something. This club is beyond belief...

I mean there are so many reports saying Ten Hag has been sounded out, where are the reports saying we have spoken to Poch?

Same, dunno why people keep rolling out the "spoken to matchday going fans" line as if it holds more substance to the claim. It doesn't matter who any of us want, its who the board wants which will matter in these circumstances.

I've had my season ticket 16 seasons now and want Poch nowhere near us but now conceded that it's the most probable outcome given he's about to be sacked and the soundings from the press.

They say "conversations with prospects", but then "Ten Hag is willing to speak to United". This leads me to believe they haven't talked to him. Besides, this board has had a hard-on for Poch for the longest time. They've probably had his agent or Poch himself on quick dial for the past 6 months, waiting for this opportunity. If I didn't have to spend so much cash on gas these days I'd probably put a fifty on Skybet.
 
Why are we so sure that United have Poch in their pocket already and never even bothered to contact ETH?

That and it's been widely reported for years now how much Sir Alex and the board have a love in for Poch. Hopefully this love in doesn't extend so much to Ralf, Arnold, Murtogh and Fletcher
 
So it's poch then? Can he come now, and bring a CB who does not make a pigs ear out of defending.

Man Utd name was/is an attractive proposition but at this moment in time top players are choosing better run clubs and I struggle to see why managers should be different, why would Tuchel risk his reputation when so many others have had theirs tarnished or ruined by joining our current shambolic clusterflip.

Love it if he did come though.
 
Looking at their respective trajectories, Ten Hag seems like he’s building toward a big job whereas Poch is firmly in Mourinho/van Gaal territory career-wise.

I only hope Rangnick is making this point. Ten Hag is a gamble worth taking.
 
It could be United DO want ETH but he fancies somewhere else. Personally I think Guardiola could leave at the end of this season and ETH could be a perfect candidate for a smooth transition as City coach. If ETH is not available, who then?, is Pochettino really that bad an option?

More leaders and less flaky players but lets be honest not really worlds part, Ancelotti finished mid table with a poor Everton side whom will be lucky to stay up this season, He's getting the best out of that Madrid side that aren't close to former star studded sides. Over came PSG but my money would be on Chelsea,Liverpool,City if they draw Madrid next simply because all three have better managers than PSG and won't collapse when put under pressure.
 
Does any of the united people that make decisions ever come on this forum? If so then they’ll know that ten Haag is the fans most favourable… seen as though the owners are trying to get the fans back onside then surely they know what they have to do.

Guardiola ain’t leaving at the end of this season… he could want a new challenge though if he finally wins the champions league with city but if they fail then I don’t think he’ll leave until they do. He’s gonna want all the glory and to be the one to say I lifted the champions league with city.
 
The way things are going, it wouldn't surprise me if we see Poch sitting next to RR at matches before this season even ends.
