Man City PL winning manager? This is why you foreign based Utd fans get on my nerves. He'd never want to join us with his City connections and our fans wouldn't want him either. It's a total non starter.

The only reason Brendan Rodgers is a possibility is because Liverpool fans don't really have any affection for him so I doubt they'd even care.

I think it's going to be Poch.
 ffs. Blame it on the foreigners right? He was at City a decade ago. Hughes was a United legend and went to them as manager. Busby was a Liverpool captain. Benitez just went to Everton. Sometimes you just hire someone because they are a good manager if it's possible to get it done. If it's not, then fine. But previous ties to City shouldn't mean anything for our pursuit of finding a quality manager. Would much sooner him than Pochettino simply because he is a much better manager.

Zidane is vastly overrated. A vibes manager, but of course better than Ole. We need structure and a clear playing style.

Ten Hag, Enrique, Pochettino. In that order.

That's exactly my order of preference too. But I also think you're underrating Zidane a little.

A modern coaching staff is a must for whoever comes in. You can have the best manager in the world and his hands would still be tied if he has to work with the United old boys.

How can you win multiple league and champions league titles by being a ‘vibes’ manager? I know they had a top squad but you can’t achieve that without knowing what you’re doing.

There's a difference between ten Hag and Rangnick when it comes to implementing a play style. Rangnick's style is to transition play quickly in a vertical manner with minimal amount of passes. And ten Hag's style is to exert zonal and positional control via ball possession in a vertical axis to open up space for the free man. Both concepts also apply high pressure but the possession play style has a advantage because it gives a team the option of a 'controlled rest phase' which can be advantageous imo.

I only understand maybe about 10% of this, but it gets me excited already.

That’s kind of the issue Leipzig have had this season because they’ve gone to Jesse Marsh who plays the basic version of Rangnick football but they’d developed from that after Hasenhuttel into a more possession-based team with Nagelsmann. I know Rangnick said Leipzig should have done whatever they could to keep Nagelsmann, which suggests a bit more flexibility than I thought he was known for. From what I’ve seen of Nagelsmann and the little bits of Ten Hag they are quite similar but it seems you‘ll know better. Certainly, Nagelsmann’s football looks much more possession based than Marsh or Hasenhuttel’s (who I also like and don’t think would be a bad choice on a 2 and a half year deal).
Agreed mate.

The Rangnick concept on players is very taxing and needed evolving imo because it tired players out. So developing a 'controlled rest phase' is important and like you mention, Nagelsmann did implement that at RBL and coaches like Guardiola, ten Hag, Enrique etc have a advantage in that regard due to the control their concepts give them in possession, which gives them a breather.

The interim thing sounds we're dead set on Poch as the permanent appointment. Not my first choice, but knowing this board we could do a lot worse.

The bolded bears repeating for anyone that doesn't want Mancini or Rodgers because of their history.

With Rodgers it's not so much that he was a Liverpool manager, but a failed Liverpool manager who is now doing poorly with Leicester. That's his limit.

I wouldnt care about Rodgers managerial history if he was a top class manager who was doing well at his current club.

But he's not. He's a mediocre manager who's heading for the sack at a club far less competitive (in theory) than us.

That's your opinion. There's a lot of people on here that don't want him 'because Liverpool'. Have a look around.

I want Ten Hag.
It's nice to at least see a lot of noise surrounding him.

With Xavi going to Barca, it does give us a free shot in the summer, my worry is Ten Hag see's City as the more natural fit the year later.
That being said, if he does come here, I feel like we'll need to be patience for 18months or so, just like Klopp and his rocky start at Liverpool.

One thing though is, I hope the interim is someone exciting like Rangnick, because we're not even half way through the season and I can't be fecked with Carrick and co till the end

I would prefer Ten Hag over Poch.

I would prefer Poch over Rodgers or bloody Lopetegui.

Lopetugui :wenger:

I do too, but only because his heart doesn't seem set on it, and I feel he'd always have one eye on the France NT job. Its not for lack of ability IMO.

Who cares, though? It's not like we're going to end up with a manager that'll be here for 10 years. It's a short term role everywhere else. We need to get used to that.

Any chance we announce our next permanent manager in advance? A sort of “we are delighted to announce … as our manager. He will take the role at the end of the season” statement . Or are we going to spend the first few weeks of the summer making all our moves?

I think it's quite clear Zidane doesn't fancy it at all for whatever reason.

We should stop flogging that dead horse.

Because of the language barrier and his wife doesn’t want the move.

I don't expect a manager to be here for 10 years, but I do expect the manager to actually want to work here though. The last thing I'd want us for us is to be Ancelotti'd like Everton were, especially with our inept board who are notoriously underprepared and too slow to react.

Unlikely if the manager is still at a club. City announced Pep early because he was out of work at the time.

Ten Hag would me my choice too. I’ve heard people say that Ferguson/Wenger reigns don’t happen anymore— but I don’t see why it can’t if you find a young, quality manager who’s happy to build something long term.

I think this is the kind of mentality Newcastle have gone with in appointing Howe, I can see him being there for years even if they get relegated this year.

Let's hire Gerard then! I enjoy seeing people looting.

Let's bring in anyone we can get from Ajax, manager and VDS.
Ten Hag as manager and VDS as DOF would be a dream and the latter would check the United 'DNA' box but I don't think we're a serious enough club for shrewd and ambitions decision making like that

It'll be Pochettino or ten Hag, unless Leicester's results improve so Rodgers is high again on club's list. I guess board will like the fact they have 6 months to decide and not rush into decision.

I'd like us to find the next Julian Nagglesmann. Someone who is over-achieving at a middle size club.

Ten Hag first choice.
Poch second choice.

Happy enough with those 2 names being the front runners.

If Zidane isnt interested then feck off. Brendan is not an option unless you want to be sacking another manager within a year.

Everyone knows he wants to take over France after Qatar 2022. I think the question is would he take us on until the end of this season.

I'd have Klopp in a heartbeat. For all I care he could walk around Old Trafford wearing a Liverpool away kit with a beatbox playing 'You'll Never walk Alone' with a fake black moustache and shell suit saying dedodowdontde and waiving his hands around. I'd still have him.

Bodger can fek off though.

So it seems ETH is available. I really really hope that we go all out for him. I would be happy enough with Poch though. That’s how I see it going. Zidane to PSG. Poch to United.
