Next Draft - Ideas and Discussions

Depends on your opinion I suppose. But from a spectator point of view, the endless drafts full of well known, great players is a bit boring.

That would also do the the trick I reckon. Would make it quite challenging.

I badly think that the drafts need a break. One after the other with the same participants can only go on for so long before bickering starts, as seen in the last few drafts.

I always liked the idea of a “shirt number” draft. 16 players, you get to pick a player who wore a jersey number for 3 years +. Everyone would end up with a mix of GOATS and some lesser featured players would get a chance to shine.

I assumed if you ran a draft, you didn't play?

Having to work 8am - 5pm means stuck a lot of the day to oversee
I don't think that's a problem in a usual snake format, you can both play and run. There is not much to run it, just copy the OP from a previous snake changing the timeline and criteria.

It's been discussed many, many times mate but it never happens. The interest is probably higher than ever, and in fairness as long as the draft themes allow for a decent variety of players to feature there's still plenty of interesting material and discussions popping up. This current Serie A draft has been great.

Meltdowns are part of draft fun. Considering the signups getting full within hours...it's hard to put a stop.

Drafting is always fun. It's match threads that can be enhanced.

I agree drafting is always fun, and the best way to enhance the match thread is to have a gap between them. It’s easier to introduce different rules so that the same players don’t appear 95% of the time, but one of the things I find repetitive is the drafters comment pattern. A break would help that.

Or, alternatively (and preferably if I’m being totally honest) there would be a bit more toleration for over the top banter, the draft lot are a precious bunch However ;)

I always thought the best way to improve the matches was to change up how they done and install a Group Stage.

4 teams. Vote for 2 teams you think will advance. Have discussion over 2 days instead of one.

That would change the whole dynamic of match threads from the more polemical 1v1 to a more generalized discussions of how well your team would do against 3 different opponents.

If anything the chaos of 4 teams in a match thread would at least be a different dynamic to the same old and changes things up.

It would definitely make the first round more interesting IMO.

It's been done and all we could see was tumbleweed.

No one enjoys watching or talking about the exact same team in action twice.

The only time I remember it being tried was that one draft with a lot of extra drafters and there was something like 6-8 teams in the group stage and you were mad about something

@BeforeKeanetherewasRobson
Lol :) We could run it together.. I want to play as well and i have next to no idea of the players in the 1980's

Looks like I'm running out of excuses? @Indnyc , fine whenever the "Pre Premier League" one goes (either before or after the auction one) we'll do as long as I'm in it.

(Edit - if I tag the right person, it might help?)

He's not saying have separate match threads though. More each group in one match thread so you're up against 3 other teams at once.

IIRC I think he had 3-4 sheeps. You know why he gave up after 2-3 rounds the last sheep draft :wenger:

Oh yeah that was it. The group stage was 6-8 teams because we decided against the instant elimination based on # of sheep. Anything iirc would not have gone over well at that point.

ffs not that.

I'm talking about proper group stage like 4 groups of 4 and three rounds of games for every group with two of them advancing. Gets boring quickly. And I've still advocated for that as all the effort gone in one game isn't nice.

Haha.. If you don't want to it's fine.. I can run the draft.. Might need some help along the way but i can be the main person to deal with the writeup etc. Have some free time at work
Tell you what, you be Head Honcho and I'll assist and try not to get in the way of the real talent. Sort of like Phil Neville to your Gary

I can help out mate. Won't participate in it, but would be ok running it along with you.

Not that it's boring mind, just not my cup of tea. Will be interesting as a neutral.

So are voters asked to imagine how six games would pan out (1v2, 1v3, 1v4, 2v3, 2v4, 3v4) then pick two? An imaginary mini-league?

Just a simple who would finish top 2. They can decide for themselves how they want to separate them

Maybe we can introduce a panel of judges for R1 games. 3 or maybe 5 neutral judges to avoid ties .

All 8 matches will be posted in a single thread. No write up, just teamsheets.

All 3 judges will PM the mod separately (to avoid undue influence) on their result predictions.

Match 1: Team (A or B) will win
Match 2: Team (A or B) will win
.
.
Match 8: Team (A or B) will win

Mod will tally up and announce the full results (incl the judge votes). If need be we can just list as Judge A, B and C to avoid personal influence.

Repat for QF.

SF and Finals can happen as normal.

Cheers guys. Thanks for the help

Not a bad idea, speeds things up a bit aswell

I would actually love if we can have more discussion in draft thread itself, discuss formations, players whatever and not get the standard save it for the match response. Some of the older draft threads are a cracking read.

There are some unbelievably interesting posts throughout a lot of the drafts, both the mega threads and the match ones, and by quite a number of posters too.

We had to ban it because the feedback given makes managers to avoid tactical errors that may otherwise have given the opponent a big advantage.

Yup. Shorter means more drafts!

I said that I would politely decline this draft because I am a newbie and can only post 3 times a day. That being said, if someone needs a partner, I dont mind. I have plenty of time at my day job to chat about footy.

Just throwing it out there in case there is a full member who needs a partner. I have great knowledge IMO as I live and breath the game. No worries if I am not needed though as I can wait until I am a full member to participate.

Pick one player to run your midfield. Right answer wins a place on the coveted team P-Nut
