New Zealand in England 2013

Root really looking like England's best player at the moment.

Bell out, Williamson has a bit of X factor about him with bat and ball.

Just watching him having Root at 6 for the Ashes will be a waste, need to get him up the order somehow.

Assuming KP returns, I would get rid of Compton and let Root open.

Does Root open at county level? I think it would hard on Compton, most likely Bairstow will make way for Pietersen.

He does.

I agree Bairstow is the one most likely to be left out, although I think eventually Root will replace Compton at the top.

Really hope neither of these two throw it away here - perfect for them both to get a solid score before the Ashes.

Even if you want to keep Compton I'd go Root at 4, KP 5 and Bell 6. KP scores well quick enough to go at 5, and I think you've got to give Root time to bat.

Bairstow is far more talented than Compton, and will potentially be in the side for a decade, the quicker he comes in - the better.

Agree I think, also the fact he scores runs at a pace livens up the order.

Very impressive 50 from Bairstow, looks very fluent when he gets past single figure's.

Shame, wasteful shot. Good innings though. For some reason I feel as though we haven't got enough yet, I have a feeling if NZ get themselves in they could put a decent number on the board in return.

Mentally fecked after your first ton at your home ground.

Not surprised he was shifted soon after, Prior will pile on a few here, and i fancy Broad will too.

Prior really is a master at wrestling back the initative.

350 will be a good score on here, we should bowl well on it.

Good total this so far from England enough imo.nice to see root get his ton and bairstow get a score desperately needed one.Prior and swann should take this away from the kiwis now.

That was a lovely ball that Finn got.

Late swing and looks a quicker pitch, England will fancy this.

Good stuff from Finn this morning.

NZ on the edge of looking a bit shaky at 62-2.

I tell you what, I really rate Rutherford. I don't think he's particularly up to scratch yet but I think he'll get his head sorted and become a real top quality test opener. He's certainly got all the shots.

We really missed Swann in New Zealand, quality player.

Strange decision especially with a day lost to rain, I can only imagine that Cook is willing to risk a draw to allow the top order more time in the middle to bat themselves into form.

Although I've got money on England winning a part of me wants England to snatch a draw from the jaws of victory here.

Cook's captaincy is tediously negative, I hope it comes round to bite him on the arse in a series where it doesn't really matter and he can learn.

Any way, after that decision I've gone to watch the fecking IPL final, rather watch some slogging than Compton's strike rate.

Cook races to 53, while poor old Nick is scratching about on 7.

Compton will probably be played in the Ashes but long term he just doesn't look good enough to be an England opener.

I thought he was scratching around because he found it hard in India and didn't want to throw his wicket away.

Why is he scratching around in England?

Brainless cricket from England again, why are they wasting time batting so slowly?
