New Left Back

I'd rather we bring Shaw up to speed, but I don't work with him every day. If Jose thinks he's a lost cause, we might well be in for one this summer.
This. We don't know what's going on behind the scenes. However, on pure talent, Shaw absolutely can dominate that LB role. Hopefully Mourinho is building him back up, because he really should be the answer to the LB 'problem'.

Jose's 'fit in or feck off' approach to management seems to be working quite well so far. Hopefully Shaw will come good. If not, there's always a cheaper option in La Liga.

We don't know what Mourinho has in mind. Take Miki as an example. I thought he was a goner TBH. Guess what? He wasn't.

I should have probably rephrased to 'currently' doesn't fancy Shaw. Mkhi was always too good not to come good!

I quite like Emerson at Roma. Ghoulam, Hector and Mendy too. Hard to argue against the logic of Kolasinac on a free though.

Honestly don't think LB is our priority area. We should focus on developing Shaw and we'll also have CBJ coming back from his loan spell.

I think our biggest priority area is find a CDM to replace Carrick, when he eventually retires. We lose any kind of transition play from defence to attack when Carrick is not playing (as we saw against Southampton during the first half of the EFL cup final). A CDM will also give the platform for Pogba and Herrera to roam forward and help out with any attacking plays.
I agree. Neither of Chelsea's FB are special and were either on loan or playing for average sides. Arsenal, City, Pool have standard LB. Spurs' is decent but not outstanding. It's how you use them that counts. The issue is that none of our 1st, 2nd or 3rd LB's are naturals in that position.

Stick to shaw. If Jose doesn't trust him, we should get Ricardo Rodriguez. Accomplished player, who could become one of the best LBs in the world in a stronger team. He'll definitely move considering how shit Wolfsburg are.

Looks you haven't been here long? The fact is for any team to compete for the title, they in fact need to buy 11 ready made top established stars. That of course means buying half a team every summer for every position where it isn't occupied by said established star. If we don't do that, we will become the next Liverpool or something ...

Jose said that Rojo, Darmian and Blind play the way he wants his LB to play and that Shaw needs to learn that so if we do sign a LB, which I don't think is certain, then it isn't going to be an attacking LB like Rose, Mendy or Rodriguez.

Because he is a quality player?

It makes no sense to buy a replacement every time a player gets injured and hits bad form.

"Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard".

The fact he's talented tells me nothing, if he's not working hard enough he shouldn't start. End of.

Your "just start Shaw ffs" statement basically shifts the blame on the manager for not playing him. Ignoring the fact that in 3 years here Shaw has been unfit or injured for the majority of his time and had his attitude questioned by more than one manager.

A statement like "Luke, pull your finger out and work for your money ffs" would have been closer to the point.

I think people tend to overlook CBJ. Although I haven't watched him on loan, I thought he's done well when he made appearances with us. Can put in a hell of a cross too. Hopefully, he's on Jose's good side. And I agree that replacing Carrick's role is the priority. We fall apart so easily when that area is weak more than when left back role is weak.

CBJ? When's the last time he started a match?

How can you name Blind and Rojo as left backs and say we don't need a left back? That's nowhere near good enough.
Rojo I agree - he's dirt at LB but I quite like Blind at LB. But, yes, we probably need to strengthen there.

CBJ and Varela are not United standard players ffs. That's painfully obvious.

If Shaw doesn't work out, Bertrand is a great achievable target.

A cheap option to provide competition for Shaw and give him a fair crack next season. I think that would be ideal. Focus more of the funds on other areas of the field. Shaw is only 21 which is easy to forget since he looks like a fat 35 year old.

Hopefully they have not completely given up Shaw because 18 year old Shaw was better than most of the names mentioned. Not to mention Shaw is younger.

Yeah no you're right. Anyone gets injured and loses form? Replace them.

I'd prefer giving Shaw some time. If not give CBJ a chance or two. Think he's doing well. If not play Blind there and btw never let Rojo anywhere near the left back.

Don't be expecting an attacking lb imo, he seems to want that side anchored down and his rb to do the attacking.

Luke Shaw will turn it around 100%. It will however take him time to be in perfect shape and body composition after his injury. I estimate he wont be in perfect shape until the end of next pre season.

Also tactically I never felt he was quite there even before the injury and has a slight weakness with his aerial challenges. He has to address and improve in these 3 areas. Once he has done he will be our best left back by a mile.

He has hard work ahead of him and I hope he shows the correct and positive attitude that he needs to have to succeed at O.T and under Mourinho.

I believe Shaw will come good. Its psychological and not physiological.

What's everyone's opinion of that Robertson kid at Hull City?

He's always been solid when playing against us. However, if we're looking at young Scottish LB's, isn't Kieran Tierney considered the bigger talent. Either way, I think we should be playing Shaw regularly and I'm not sure either would get into the team ahead of him. Also, given their age, they need first team football. Last January, when I asked what others thought about us moving for Benjamin Mendy, while he was still at Marseille, most said they'd prefer to move for a more experienced LB to cover for Shaw, so I wonder if that's still the consensus.

I'd like Robertson at Hull. I said in January that zi reckon he could play for any team I. The league, and still believe that. Would cost about £10m I believe, which is the fee Burnley agreed for him in January.

I don't think a new LB is a priority at all. I think Shaw will still come good after he gets over his mental problems after that horrible injury, Ramsey had similar problems when he returned after the Shawcross tackle. We also have Blind, Rojo and Darmian who all can fill in at LB if Shaw don't come good.

hence they can't progress past semi finals of the CL.

Alaba.

But realistically... Bertrand would be great for us I think.

Inter are interested in Rodriguez...

Don't you think Darmian will leave (to Italy) this summer?
