New Fantasy Draft

I feel that given the ficklety of the caf, Gibson may lose me a few votes which is unfortunate when you consider his experience at the top level and the fact that he is still part of a squad on course to win the league and potentially CL - just because he isn't a world beater, he is still a good player.

On the other hand it might look better to some people compared to a relatively unknown player in a lower league that they have never heard of

that was the theory.

i just wonder if - if you regard a totally unknown player to have an influence on your team of 0 - if people wont treat Gibson (wrongly imo) as an actual negative score, ie that i would be better off simply putting myself into the team instead.

Very good point, by the way. A very tricky one in such circumstances - i.e. a draft of young players who many will look on for potential (I know that isn't the rules but see G.Bale winning PFA player for his CL apps), when experience and how they've held themselves to this point being most important.

In United's first XI, I am no massive Gibson fan, but in this competition he's valuable because he has PL and CL experience.

BTW - for the casual viewer, I don't have Gibson.

Experience/performance were the main factors I looked for

I hope having no PL or United players dosent come back to bite me

hmm. time almost up, at least nobody else till solius needs a full back so we are not going to loose our player if knut misses the deadline

I'll give some thoughts on the teams so far.

Cling Bak: Good solid team with Ozil being the exceptional player there, very balanced.

Dan Nistelrooy: More stand out players in this team for me, Wilshere and Jovetic would link well. Capel would provide some width. Probably the best so far.

IBleedRed: Can't say I actually know who the defenders are but you've got some very good players in midfield. I'm assuming Thiago would drop deep alongside Busquets to give some balance. Muller would also help out kind of like Rooney has for us recently.

Arjwiz: Think you would've been better off going with one striker and getting an extra midfielder in there to help out and probably play Llajic closer to the striker. Dos Santos on the right and Bale on the left flanking one striker would've been decent.

Walrus: Some very good players there, I'm a huge fan of Aguero. I think your midfield is a bit light though, maybe could've had Taarabt wide and got another CM instead. Song is a good player though.

KM: Balanced team, Banega would run things in that midfield. This Lucas player has had a lot of hype, but I'm not sure about him yet personally. Others may well rate him already. Good team though, Banega was a great pick.

Cal?: Another balanced team, Hernandez would probably do well with Mata playing him in. Not sure about Jeffren, but he seems better on the right (which is where you've put him) decent team.

I modelled it after the current United side - great attack and defence, mediocre midfield!
Seriously though, on about round 5-6 i had a good 5 midfielders left and they all went in as many picks, which did leave me a little light, i dont think its that bad though - Song is a good player and can act as the anchorman whilst still going forward, Taarabt is the most advanced player of the three with Song as the defensive one, and Gibson just does his thing ;)

Guys, apologies for the delay but Arjqiz did not PM me, tut tut :nono::noon:

Anyway, to complete my line-up and give me some attacking prowess from both FB positions, a young highly rated RB, Sime Vrsaljko of Dinamo Zagreb.

Nikolai MIHAYLOV

Sime VRSALJKO Dejan LOVREN Mamadou SAKHO Fabio COENTRAO

Christian ERIKSEN Kwadwo ASAMOAH

Eduardo SALVIO Javier PASTORE Carlos EDUARDO

Couldn't agree more with you tbh... ;)

Nah, I think why my team has been overlooked for praise so far is because I don't have that standout attacker (your Aguero's, Patos, Ozils) as they had gone by my pick.
Tried to pick the best core though and in

Höwedes---Rodwell

----Kuzmanović---
Wilshere-----Pjanić

Think I'm not too far off!

Shit, really sorry. Must have forgotten.

No worries pal.

Partly being stupid myself as I've been in and out of the thread this morning but thought I was waiting for GingerPrince to pick his last man. All sorted now but it might have been different if I had lost out on one of my picks :D

He's just after leading Sao Paulo to the top of the Paulista league ahead of the Santos team containing Neymar, Ganso, Danilo and Elano. In his last two games he got the matchsaving assist against Oeste and the matchwinning goal against Mirassol - when he dribbled from his own half and passed it into the net - so he's not just got great potential, he's got great influence already. He's likely to explode at the Copa America but he may stay back for the U20 WC, either way he's well worth a watch this summer.

Some good observations there, particularly impressed by the core of Dan Nistelrooy's midfield really rate some of his pick's there. And as you mentioned Cling's team is very balanced with Ozil providing the creativity not exactly a huge fan of either of his wingers though.

Where exactly has kuzmanovic earned such a high reputation. Pjanic and wilshire are class but kuzmanovic in behind isn't exactly an inspired pick. Very average player for me. I am way more impressed with his defense. Which may cover for the inability of the defensive midfielder in front of them.

I can see where you're coming from, if I was in his position I would have had Rodwell as the defensive midfielder and drafted another centre back. I was praising Wilshere, Jovetic and Pjanic not so much Kuzmanovic

Thanks,
Yeah that's pretty much what I was thinking, I wanted a fluid midfield that could keep the opposition guessing. Mats Hummels is a beast

FortBoyard ok man. As you are the biggest critic of Holtby talent on red cafe. I want to challenge you to a bet. I say that the kid will establish himself as a regular for german team in 5 year time.

considering hes up against muller, ozil and podolski, id take that bet

Frankly ive never heard of Holtby - whilst I may be a minority in this regard (and probably am), for me to have never even heard of him he cant be quite as well established as you are claiming.

I shall try to remind everyone that the draft was based on the current achievements, skill and experience of those involved and not their potential. Whilst I am sure Holtby may become a great player 5 years down the line, at the moment he surely cannot be regarded as a strong pick based on what he has currently done.

Same applies to plenty of other players.

he had one great season. Look Chris Smalling who rated him last year? and who rates him now. Holtby is same case. He established himself as a supreme talent just this season. Next year he will be star player for Shalke. Obviously Smalling playing for team like United helped him more to get attention. But if you say Welbeck, Sturridge. All they have vs Holtby is that Bundesliga doesnt get as much attention from red cafe users as bolton or sunderland.

If this was bundesliga forum, Holtby would be the one selected on 4th round, and Sturridge on the last

Holtby may be regarded as new Ozil of german football by next year. Ozil had this great U21 to establish his name world wide. Holtby just needs his opportunity his international tournament or smth which would get much media attention outside german to establish his own name.

You are still talking about potential. Ozil proved himself at the WC, and now at Madrid. I picked Evans over Smalling for the same reason - Smalling has had the better season, Evans has had by far the better career.

At the end of the day though, it is about playing to the audience. 80% of the Redcafe populace is probably from England, therefore picking players from the prem is surely a worthwhile tactic. As you said, if this was a Bundesliga forum then it might go differently, but its not.

-----------Balotelli-------Abel Hernandez---------

Manager: Mighty Boosh
Assistant Manager: The Taurean

Very pleased with final team, plenty of experience and a nicely balanced line-up. Any opinions are welcome

FWIW, I think Mighty Boosh has the best team in this fantasy draft so far. Excellent goalkeeper(my second choice after chesney), solid defence and a good attacking lineup.
He is the favorite for me.

Appreciate the kind words, must admit though I'm quite jealous of your midfield trio of Witsel, Sissoko and Banega. All were quite high up on my drafting list and you have an excellent playmaker in Sanchez who is one of my favourite players to watch. Not too sure about Caicedo but if you get through the first round you'll have a great chance to draft a top striker.

No mate. You did not understand me. I am not talking about potential. holtby is great player, he is the sole reason Mainz will be playing in Europe next year, thats not potential thats quality. What i meant he needs an international tournament to prove himself to people who dont watch Bundesliga. Not because he aint good now, because he needs a stage to show it to the ignorant (to bundesliga) side of the world.

And i am not comparing him to Ozil at Madrid, i meant Ozil of 2 summers ago. When he wasnt that well known either but in Euro 21 proven himself to be head and shoulder above his age group.

Holtby would easily get into most of EPL sides. He is exceptional passer, great crosser, terrific on the ball and his intelligence is way beyond his years. If it would be possible to play this tournament in reality, i would expect Holtby to be one of the key players on our team. It is most frustrating and upsetting to me, that even though we have on the team this superb ALL STAR quality player, you guys try to downplay his unquestionable talent.

By the way out of interest i googles his name and Manchester United.
here what i got
"Reports suggest that Manchester United are chasing Alemannia Aachen winger Lewis Holtby with an interest from our rival, Arsenal.
Sir Alex Ferguson sent scouts in the stands on the weekend to see the 18 year-old winger in action against German Second Division rivals Nurnberg.
"
I would so bump this thread if in we sign him as Giggs replacement in summer.

Taking into consideration the idea that players familiar to people here will do better for my final pick:

gabrielobertanleapsove0.jpg

Yeah, I may have run out of ideas for the right winger. But at least he's not Bebe?

The final team:

Winner.

Interesting, i'll have to look out for him, you're a good judge of talent.
