Even after an exhilarating win like this, Matic still looked a sore thumb in that second half midfield. So slow and laboured. At times, it was as if he were walking in treacle.

What a poor performance. It was yard to play 9 vs 13 when Young and Matic contributed more to Newcastle. He started the season very poorly and should be dropped.

At this point, one has to think he has compromising pics of Mourinho. He's past it, tired but yet plays every game, finishes every game. Mourinho is killing him

That was one of the worst performances I have ever seen from a United player.

Slow, lethargic, and very sloppy. Fellaini is twice the player he is.

Ffs, bench this guy and Lukaku, and try to play with dynamic players instead. It's not like we don't have those.

I honestly believe that if you asked him what his responsibilities and role are in the team, he wouldn't know the answer.

He isn't fit and isn't doing his job properly. Take him out.

He needs a spell on the bench, he looks nothing like the player we had last season - possibly a World Cup hangover weighing heavily on already tiring legs????

Getting him out of midfield did wonders for our speed of play

How does a player who puts in p!ss poor performances week in, week out still get to play every match? Just like Lukaku, he can be absolutely sh!t and still be undroppable. #JustthingsunderMourinho!

Summed up his performance when under no pressure at all he mistimed his jump for a header and almost scored an own goal.

His passing was awful, he kept getting caught on the ball, he was slow and out of position he missed a sitter to pull it back to 2-1.

Just from start to finish he was horrendous.

Said before, will say again, Nemanja Matic is finished as a top level player.

£40m for 6 good months. Excellent transfer business.

He's regressing. Would have gladly given TFM a few games in his position to mould him into the team.

Mourinho has a part in this. Ran him to the ground last season and now this.

He needs to a break, it's pretty clear to everyone but Mourinho it seems. Had a long season last year, played in the world cup and miss pre-season due to injury, and had to have a surgery too. All that and he gets thrown in as soon as he's half-fit.

Not like we're short of midfielders either, we have a lot of choice.

He needs a break. Rushed back from surgery and played every game since while looking unfit. Is he involved with Serbia in the internationals? I hope they leave him alone at a beach or something

I really miss Michael Carrick. Matic just doesn't have that ability to drive the ball forwards from deep.

He looks as shot as Valencia to me, not just slow and lacking in mobility, but like the game is a step ahead of him most of the time and almost like he's lost some power.

Neither did Carrick, but Carrick was always looking for the quick pass between the lines. Matic take some 5-6 touches and then places a slow pass to Shaw. He’s not even putting any zip on his passes, everything looks Labour Ed.

He's clearly tired. Needs a couple of weeks off and then needs to be eased back in. It's not like we're reliant on him, give him a few weeks out of the squad to get fit.

Looks shot to bits. It's like he's lost 20% in every part of his game. Maybe if Fred comes good then he can take some of the physical burden off Matic but that's clutching at straws, I think.

Y'know, I thought he was really good last year & got undeserved stick on here.

Today though especially, the chance he missed -, OMG etc etc.

Not sure who replaces him though & those CBs do need some help it would seem,.

And I don't see it being Pogba. Or McTom. Or Fellaini.

Would rather have seen him move to CB instead of McTominay

I was saying this last season. He was great the 1st half of last season and then he dropped to average for the 2nd half of the season save for a few moments. Glad he's not escaping criticism anymore.

Exactly. The guy comes back from a surgery+holiday and first thing that happens is that he starts vs Tottenham, we know the result and how Lucas Moura destroyed him too. Matic is old and slow so he needs to be managed extra carefully but Mourinho is destroying him, game after game.

True. The only moment he was rested in the 2nd half of last season, he came back instantly better. He is simply played way too often and is rarely replaced during games

What ever that operation was on his knees sliced him into half the player he was

Matic has been so poor this season in midfield. Rather play McTominey as centre back, I think Mourinho should give Matic a try. Both Bailly & Lindelof are not convincing, but playing a young inexperienced midfielder as centre back in difficult situation isn't a good idea, Matic's experiences is more suitable IMO.

Since joining us, I don't recall a worst performance of him than yesterday's. I really hope that it's just temporary.

Matic and Pogba does not work as a CM combo, they both refuse to move the ball quickly and bog our play down to walking pace, which directly contributes to the struggles of the attack. Would really like to see Fred/Perriera get a run because it has not been working, the significant increase in the tempo of the play with Pogba orchestrating and Martial able to play quick off Mata should be a sign for Mou.
