Need For Speed Hot Pursuit

Couple of old school locations in this from NFS donkeys years back it seems. The light house should be familiar to those that played High Stakes.

Sink or swim for Need For Speed. If this fails, then Its bye bye.... Only for them to relaunch it in 5 years time with a massive ho ha surrounding it.

If Criterion can't pull it off, nobody can.

Its just the fact that they've gone so far away from their roots. The old Need for Speed you never pissed around in some shit box. You were in some sick super car from the start and thats what made it fun. It was turn on and play. If I wanted that experience from a game I'd buy Gran Turismo which did a far better job... and I did, I don't want it from some arcade racer. Its just not fun.

The annoying thing about these late games was that they had everything going for them. Good driving physics, best sounds in any racing game, Porsche, Lambo, Bugatti, Zonda..... yet somehow they find a way to feck it up.

Yeah I just had a bash, so has marchi.

I must say I expected more. I never really played the old NFS games, the first NFS game I ever bought was Shift - which I really enjoyed. This is very old school arcade-y. Hard to tell but I don't see a lot of depth to the gameplay, especially when you're just a plain racer.

You wiley cnut how did you know that hahaha. I think its a quality game, just not my cup of tea. It will suite a lot of people and I think it will revive the serie, but yeah, it'll be a love hate game rather then just plain shit like the last 5. Will really suite those that liked Burnout Paradise and HP2.

It's not bad. Not so much a fan of the chasing aspect, although that might have been down to my car of choice, which handled like a wet sponge.

I enjoyed the straight up race. Spammy, you beat me by about a second and a half. I shouldn't have crashed.

Heh, I used the z4 I think, it had the power of a granny with no limbs. I only raced once though as I found it quite boring. Reminded me very much of Burnout, which is fun but not really what I'm looking for.

marchi, I knew you played because the game informed me when I smashed your time at the pursuit thing.

I hope it goes back to the good old NFS roots. The games become crap in recent years.

GamesMaster has published the world's first Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit review - and given Criterion's new racer a glowing write-up.

The mag awards Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit a 93% score. It says the game is "totally back on form, returned to glory by the best arcade racer creators in the business".

According to the review Criterion's "injection of passion and innovative online tech has done wonders" and the end result is the "best arcade Need for Speed" in years.

Unlocks such as cars, upgraded weapons and a "first-person-shooter-style rank" encourages players to work towards becoming the "Ultimate Enforcer".

Hot Pursuit is a "focused" racer that "encapsulates all the core elements and 'feel' of the past games but improves in almostevery area", it's a game "made by fans for fans".

EA has confirmed at a recent presentation in Japan that it will release a number of high-profile titles - including Need for Speed - to iDevices in the coming months.

Interesting.

Play the game, then comment. Until then, shut your piehole.

I don't think that the cars are supposed to feel like the real life ones, it's a fecking arcade racer FFS! The Testarossa in OutRun really felt like one didn't it?

Nah that's not the problem at all Weaste my old china.

They drive like crap and hence are no fun to drive. Fun is the bare minimum I expect from a game...Websters defining a game as 'an activity engaged in for diversion or amusement'.

Have you played 'Split/Second?' That is a fun arcade racer. I preferred it to 'Blur.' Not a big fan of the car handling in it, either.

Yeah, I've got Split Second Lance. Love that game. Admittedly it was more like a passionate fling than a long term relationship but it blew my balls away before the magic wore off.

I have played the demo over the weekend, yesterday was a bank holiday here also. I've not played it on any machine that I own, I played it on an XB360.

Did you use the 350Z? Seriously, it feels terrible to drive.

I seem to remember playing this on the PS2, and with the same title as well. Is this an enhanced version of just more cars and better graphics?

Not going to lie, I enjoyed the pursuit mode in Need for Speed High Stakes far then this. You could actually drive like a real police officer. Sit in beside buildings and when they flew past, chuck on the whaler and go after them. Set spike strips up on one side of the road and you park on the other. The cars also handled alot better.

But you are not "driving" it, it's an arcade game - you aim it in a direction. It's like saying that you used to drive the car in Chase HQ.

I am aware of what an arcade racer is supposed to feel like. This feels like shit. Pretty much everyone in this thread who has tried the demo, is in agreement.

For the record, I don't like "simulations", and I won't be buying GT5.

New Trailer

Demo on the 26th.

This trailer is pretty awesome as well. The gameplay looks really nice. I m going to download the demo tonight. I m surprised this game has the ASTON MARTIN 177. Does anyone know if it has the Lexus LFA?
