NBA Thread 2013-2014

Wiggins' freshman stats compare fairly well to Jordan's.

Michael Jordan, 6-6, 200 lbs
13.5 ppg, .534 fg%, .722 fg%, 4.4 re, 1.8 ast, 1.2 st, 1.7 TO

Andrew Wiggins, 6-8, 195 lbs
16.8 ppg, .452 fg%, .765 ft%, 5.9 re, 1.6 ast, 1.2 st, 2.2 TO

Jordan was definitely a better shooter at this point.

Blake the best PF in the game right now?

Blake the best PF in the game right now?

Sounds about right. Aldridge with the Blazers was hot early in the season, and Love has been consistent despite Minnesota's problems, but Griffin has raised his game to another level few people saw in him. He's the reason the Clippers are where they are in the standings now, given Chris Paul's injuries.

I'd hate for the Grizzlies to meet the Clippers in the playoffs. Not with Griffin playing like this.

Scoring per 48 minutes (fg%):

1. 39.7 Kevin Durant (.509)
2. 34.8 Kevin Love (.461)
3. 34.7 Caramel Anthony (.454)
4. 34.4 Chrysler LeBaron James (.572)
5. 33.1 TheMarcus' Cousin (.487)
6. 32.6 Blake Griffin (.537)
7. 32.0 Dirk Nowitzki (.495)
8. 31.0 James Harden (.457)
9. 30.8 TheMarcus' Aldridge (.459)
10. 30.5 Stephen Curry (.459)

11. 30.1 Al Jefferson (.506)
12. 29.7 Paul George (.436)
13. 29.5 Jamal Crawford (.421)
14. 28.8 Kevin Martin (.429)
15. 28.8 Kyrie Irving (.429)
16. 28.6 TheMar TheRozan (.432)
17. 28.3 Goran Dragic (.508)
18. 28.2 Damian Lillard (.431)
19. 28.1 Isaiah Thomas (.451)
20. 28.0 Rudy Gay (.456)

The game has changed, where have all the centers gone? Blake Griffin is representing the bigs at 53.7%, Al Jefferson is also over 50%, but that's it! Used to be quite a few bigs shooting over 55% thanks to living around the rim at all times.

Among these guys it's LeBron that sticks out at 57.2 fg%, which is startling considering he does take a fair few jump shots.

The mercurial Kevin Durant also manages to sit above 50% while shooting a lot of jump shots.

Have to compliment Goran Dragic for shooting over 50% while playing at PG and some SG.

Well, I've watched exactly zero seconds of the Kings this season, but TheMarcus' Cousin is quite good and I've always liked Rudy Gay, despite him being a bit inefficient.

They probably still suffer from a lack of d-fence, but they score a lot of points...surely...

Sacramento is the only team with 3 guys in the top 20 in points per 48 minutes, with Cousins, Thomas and Gay.

The Wolves (Love & Martin), Clippers (Griffin and Crawford) and Blazers (Aldridge & Lillard) have two each.

Well, here's the next 20 top scorers per 48 minutes, a lot of names I didn't expect in this one.

21. 28.0 Anthony Davis (.523)
22. 26.5 David Lee (.520)
23. 26.5 Tony Wroten (.426)
24. 26.3 Dwight Howard (.585)
25. 25.8 Arron Afflalo (.467)
26. 25.8 Brandon Knight (.422)
27. 25.8 Patty Mills (.465)
28. 25.6 Paul Milsap (.458)
29. 25.6 Gerald Green (.441)
30. 25.6 Chris Bosh (.536)

31. 25.6 John Wall (.430)
32. 25.5 Mike Scott (.481)
33. 25.1 And Ray Blatche (.471)
34. 25.1 MarkKeith Morris (.476)

37. 24.7 Tim Duncan (.487)

top ten in the league:

1. Spurs 49-16
2. Pacers 49-17
3. Thunder 48-17
4. Clippers 47-20
5. Heat 44-19
6. Rockets 44-21
7. Blazers 43-23
8. Warriors 41-26
9. Dallas 39-27
10. Grizzlies 39-27

Pretty amazing stuff from Dallas.

Evan Turner had a major impact in a big (and very close) game against Miami, which practically meant that Indiana now are locked for the number 1 seed in the East.

His explosiveness was the decisive factor, something Granger wouldn't have been able to offer.

It was a great game, but Miami collapsed in the last two minutes, as usual.

I don't follow the NBA, but I threw a bet on the Heat to win before half time. Man I'm gutted, I went for a piss and they buckled.

After the Pacers' recent collapse in form I'm down to having zero expectations for this season.

You don't think they're just taking their foot off the pedal with home-court pretty much safe?

Basketball's gotten much better to watch. Some weird meta coincidence at work in the universe since terrible basketball across the league is what made me look for another winter sport to follow around ten years ago. And now Moyes is trying to singlehandedly reverse that process.

Scrappy game yesterday between the Pacers and Heat. Thought Miami had the game for a second. I think if Bosh made more shots they would have taken it, but it's interesting seeing the Heat play less "small ball".

The Knicks against the Lakers a few days ago... let's just say the only highlight of the game was looking forward to Stephen A Smith tear into them the next day.

Indiana continue to slide down the standings, lost to Washington ffs.

1. Spurs 55-16
2. Thunder 53-19
3. Pacers 52-21
4. Clippers 51-22
5. Heat 49-22
6. Rockets 49-22
7. Blazers 47-27
8. Warriors 44-27
9. Grizzlies 42-28
10. Suns 43-29

Only two teams from the East in the top 10, so Indy and Miami have inferior records playing more games against inferior teams.

What the hell is happening to Indiana? I saw that fall coming for Miami, but Indiana?

The race for the top seed in the East has been one of the most ridiculous races I've seen. Whenever Indiana loses, Miami loses too, whenever they win, Miami wins too (no matter what team they're playing), and they kept this gap between 1-2 games for almost all season long.

It's frustrating.
