NBA 2021-2022

Mavs playing our of their minds right now. Also playing better without Luka

Doncic is playing out of control but he's dragging the suns with him

Mavs can’t defend and generally aren’t efficient enough offensively to make up for it

What a weird game. Doncic is the only mavs who can't score, and the mavs are still up 10. Mavs are kind winning this game despite Doncic

Paul definitely with an unusual dumb match but half of his 6 fouls were proper ridiculous calls. If they'd apply the same standards to every situation you would end in free throws in every possession...

Luka showing his age, killing them with assists yet keps shooting when he cant hit a barn door

3 of those were the ticky tacky stuff that usually doesn't get called on stars

Anyways, Suns haven't really been able to stop the mavs offence all series. In the first two games they won by being much more unstoppable on offence

CP3's struggles in these games has ground their offence down to Booker iso, which he's making work in this game but it's not enough to overcome the mavs scorching hand

It looked he actually got hurt but on a different play totally unrelated to Poole.

This series has been one thing after another.

Its been very annoying.

It was very unlikely we'd get by the Warriors but this nonsense has distracted from the basketball. Starting with Dillon's idiotic take down (which has been given a bit too much attention given the flagrant in the previous game by Draymond), now Ja's idiotic statement, after partying in SF the night before... Kerr getting on his soapbox...

Warriors in 5/6 still

What a weird weird game this was

Ref gonna be the story. Again. Not a good showing in these playoffs honestly

I'm wondering if Doncic has some issues with his right shoulder given how badly he's shot these two games on jumpers and all that tape

That's the game, 2-2

I knew the Suns were in trouble when Stephen A Smith said before the tip off that he didn't see how Dallas was going to win this game.

Can't help but feel that Dallas has been rewarded for a lot of play-acting and underhanded physicality. Some of the foul calls on CP3 were real head-scratchers too. Anyone can win this series now I suppose.

Chris Paul 23 minutes..... injured? Or, well fouled out it seems [edited]

The Suns are still massive favorites, but if Mavs supporting cast can continue to shoot and defend like this they have a chance.

Awful refereeing though.

It does make a change though with the all the snidey little tricks Chris Paul pulls to be on the other end of it for once.

You sure you want to feel confident in this? After all, Stephen A has been saying that the Warriors would win it all this year since the beginning of the year. I think Mavs just played a good game today more than anything.

Looking at the breakdown of the stats, what it really comes down to is that the Mavs hit 20 3s while the Suns hit 9 and the Suns had 6 more TOs. 17 TOs in back-to-back games for the Suns shows the increased intensity the Mavs have brought to the forefront on the defensive end. If the Suns continue to cough the ball up they will lose this in 6 games.

That Luka play right at the end of the first half, drawing 4th foul from Paul, preventing the rebound, hitting the FTs…not to mention his steal on the long pass to Booker, felt really important at the time. A 4 point swing and a 4th foul on CP3. Out Chris Paul-ed Chris Paul there.

He's been hedging his bets recently though so I'm still thinking the Dubs have got a chance.

Numerous sources are reporting that Ja is unlikely to play in game 4.

Hope he beats the odds and is able to play. You never want to see anyone get injured.

It's also being reported that the NBA looked at the play where Morant was hurt and have deemed that no further review or action will be taken.

And the Sixers tie the series. Dare I believe again?

Clutch from Harden in the 4th

If it puts him at risk, I hope he doesn't tbh

There is an argument that the Grizz play better team basketball without Morant

I mean, possibly. We have to. We don't have any player apart from Ja who is superstar status so when he's out Jenkins makes the team look for the extra pass, cut more, and so on

Ja can get tunnel vision at times but when he's firing it opens our offense up better because of his ability to drive and finish at the rim so when the defense adjusts for that it opens up the 3 and midrange for others

Ja can and should improve further this off season. He finds his teammates well... I'd like to see him develop his off the ball movement (similar to Steph), that requires others on our team to become better playmakers

Yung n learnin

Defensively he needs to improve as well, he's bad on that end currently, but again he's young and he has the physical tools that indicate he could become a decent defender if he focuses on it and everything we've seen from him so far would suggest that he will. I know that Memphis had a terrific regular season record without Ja and they can definitely be competitive in tonight's game if they defend better (it would be useful if they could also get an edge in the rebounding which weirdly hasn't happened at all) but it's hard to see them actually winning a play off road game without their only real shot creator.

Shit already getting ugly, now campaign going for him to be marked as advanced analytics MVP and will be used to mock those who give some importance to it. Dont understand if you hate numbers then his 27/13-14/7-8 shouldnt count either or 2k/1k/500 for the season, also FG% has no value for some in the media.

Personally no complaints for either candidate but i see mainstream folks already up in arms.

It's so bizarre, as if Jokic in some way doesn't pass the eye test and is someone that only stats nerds could appreciate. Plus Embiid is 2nd in a lot of the metrics that Jokic is top in, which would suggest that they are quite indicative of performance.

IMLTHO Jokic shouldn't have won the award. His stats were great, you could even argue his performances were better than any other player in the league. But to me the word "valuable" has got to mean something. The Nuggets finished in 6th place in the West and Jokic is definitely the reason they made the playoffs. But how valuable is that? It's not his fault that some of his team mates are out, but when you are choosing the most valuable player in the entire league a player on a team that finishes 6th no matter how well he has played should not be in the running. Not his fault, but not MVP either.

Westbrook shouldn't have won it either for the same reason.

The Nuggets would likely be fighting with the Rockets if it wasn't for Jokic. The fact that they were a playoff team should see him be named the 2022 Super-Duper NBA MVP.

Well that seems a bit arbitrary. The Nuggets finished 3 games behind both the Bucks and Sixers who benefitted from playing in a conference with significantly worse bottom half teams. The Westbrook MVP award was ridiculous because it was down to the arbitrary stat chasing he had to get to triple doubles, and that he beat out someone in the same conference who finished 12 games ahead (Harden).

Any of Jokic, Embiid, or Giannis would have been worthy MVP winners. There's no one from a team significantly better than the Nuggets with a real case this year - I agree that team success should be a factor but it's not the be all end all when there is an overwhelming statistical case in favour of Jokic.
