NBA 2020-2021

Gotta love how salty Vogel is after game 4.

Another coach that's riding off LeBron's coattails and he's getting exposed now that LeBron is not healthy.

fecking mavs :o
Cuban will have to sign someone major to keep Luka there in next few years. Nice organisation, good coach but player like him ahould challenge every year and with things how they are he will only have a one, maybe 2 chances with Mavs assuming he stays.

Edit: if he leaves just hope he wont go spineless route and join a super team.
Cuban has shown he's willing to spend to win. He cleared out a championship team to sign LeBron, clearly a huge mistake he was never in the running. But he spent big trying to fix things, even though it never really worked.

KP was a huge pickup, it's such a shame about his injuries, he looked like a future hall of famer in NYC. He's got a player option for 2023-24 I can't see him passing on. I guess a lot will depend on if they can get something for him, or I suppose he could finally get healthy.

Cuban is gonna do what he can to build around Doncic, I think he'll succeed.

I thought he did great work for the Pacers at first, though maybe he's better with a different sort of team. They went from under achieving to pretty dangerous with him. Seems a discipline and defensive solidity coach to me. Don't think Pacers should have fired him. Or Nate McMillan.

No, no, no, no! Gotta give credit where credit's due. They tanked purely and simply to lose and avoid the Lakers. Rest was just a bonus. Of their 5 starters against Dallas last night, Leonard, George and Morris didn't play against OKC. Zubac played 6 seconds so that he could say he played in every game and Reggie Jackson played 7 minutes but hit 2 threes in that time so they yanked his ass. This removal of players who were putting up decent numbers continued throughout until they got to a point in the 4th quarter where the only proviso for staying in the game it seemed was that you had to have taken more shots than scored points. Patterson was 4-11 with 10 points, Scrubb was 7-17 with 14 points, Kennard was 6-14 with 13 points and the "star" of the show was Daniel Oturu who managed to go 5-21 with 13 points. The fifth player Yogi Ferrell I think was only out there because you have to play 5 and even though he had 14 points on 12 shots they just told him to keep taking 3s to minimize his chance of actually putting the ball in the hoop.

.....and even then they couldn't seem to lose. So at that point in the last minute of the game with the score 112-110 OKC they started running plays for just Patterson and Oturu thinking this would get them home. But lo and behold, even with Patterson shooting a solid 30% from the field he then went and made the damn shot with an assist from Oturu. However, all was not lost for the Clippers. Fortunately for them, Pokusevski came to the rescue hitting a three to put OKC up 115-112.

.....and then Ty Lue played his trump card, his masterstroke - he gave it to Daniel. Not taking any chances though he had him shoot a long 2 just in case the unthinkable happened and it went in to tie the game. Oturu of course missed and after some pitiful defense allowing Brown to dunk the ball to finish them off the Clippers were home.

Shame about the injuries that are occurring in the playoffs.

Fortunately NBA players don’t really have an easy way out for the first 7-8 years of their career unless they just go and sign qualifying offer. Almost no one does that.

Also, I wouldn’t be concerned with Cuban spending to address their issues. It’s only year 3 for Luka and he already has been to the playoffs twice and has seen numerous players go through the team. He has time.

Beal should be the priority now. Either via trade or next years free agency.

Luka was probably too good really. If Mavs had been able to be bad for another season or two they might have been able to complement him with another young star from a good pick. They attempted to fill that with KP who is good but probably not good enough to be the #2 player on a title contender.

The irony is that the team that has probably had the most trouble with injuries all year (Nets) is one of the few teams that is healthy.

That’s because they were basically resting everyone all season.

Also let’s not forget Mavs were a dumpster when he went there. They were actually bragging about their new core of DSJ, Barnes and Noel a mere year before he came. Initially he was expected to form backcourt with DSJ but it quickly turned out he was on another level (good to see DSJ getting his career back on track somewhat at Pistons though). They went through a very quick rebuild and 3 years isn’t enough to go all the way.

Kings had a more ready now team for him to fit in with Fox, Hield and Bogdanovic but they predictably dropped the ball taking the only top 5 player from that draft who turned out to be pretty useless (Ayton, Luka, Jackson Jr and Trae all great).

Watching Trae in these playoffs I still refuse to blame Atlanta for going in that direction. He’s amazing, they were unlucky to only get no. 10 and Reddish from Mavs (though if we also consider that enabled them to get Hunter then he’s a great throw in).

I think you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone in Atlanta that would trade Trae/Cam/Hunter for Doncic. Honestly, you'd probably only find a handful that would swap Trae for Luka straight up at this point.

It's a city that values style over substance in a lot of ways - or at least requires style with it's substance. It's why Michael Vick was infinitely more popular than Matt Ryan, despite the latter shattering team records for over a decade now. It's why the 2015 team that won the East didn't get the same reaction we see now with Trae on the court. I think in the end the Luka/Trae trade will go down as one that both sides were completely happy with and wouldn't change.

Lebrons 1 on 1 defence has gone down massively.

Never thought he was a top defender to begin with as his effort and athleticism/size would allow him to do well in stretches, but nothing like a top defensive player. Am quite surprised he's been named on all NBA defensive teams with the Cavs and Heat.

LeBron's playing like he's given up on the game. He's clearly not at 100%

Defense is non-existent and he's trying to pass the ball away instead of trying to drive.

Edit: Ayton defending him whenever he tries to drive isn't helping as well, Ayton is one of the few players that's actually able to match him for speed and strength at the moment.

Dame is just unreal...one of the most underrated stars of the NBA, still. Difficult to advance against West teams if you're Portland. Know some people don't like Stotts, but damn. Dame is just wow

And still lost. Ridiculous sequence there by Covington and CJ after that. Really feel for Lillard, he had the game of his life and yet still couldn’t win with this team.

Nuggets and inexplicably not fouling name a more iconic duo I’ll wait

This is one of the greatest performances in NBA playoff history and that's not overstating it. 55 points, 10 assists, 8 rebounds on 17-24 shooting with 12 made threes and only 1 turnover is video game stuff.

Lillard must be furious with his teammates right now.

He was incredible but this is so unbelievably frustrating and it’s not the first time. CJ especially was beyond ridiculous in crucial moments, amateur stuff. We can still force game 7 but when we can’t even win on the back of such performance it’s going to be almost impossible to win two in a row. Shame because Lakers will probably not be there and we would have a shot against the Suns (who would still be favored but more beatable than Lakers that we couldn’t touch with this team construction).

Every Nuggets player and coach are relieved, yet in awe of Dame tonight. That was an epic performance by Dame. He willed his team into overtime, twice and was let down, again by his teammates.

Annoyed that I missed the Dame show. Sounds like he was on another level. Lakers look very average. I assume Davis will come back for game 6? Doubt they can win without him.

Well, he had one of the worst performances of his career in his last match and his teammates bailed him out then, so I don't think he can be furious with them. They aren't as good as he is so he can't expect them to perform in every game.
