NBA 2018-2019

Can't believe the odds (2.7) you can still get on Harden to win the MVP. Giannis has been amazing as well, but Harden's season is historic, he'll surely win it.

Statistically on the offensive end of the floor James Harden has done some amazing things. He leads the league in points/game (by a significant margin) at 36.4, is seventh in assists per game at 7.5 and in today's NBA where the 3 point shot is king he also leads in that category as well with 353 made baskets. However, some of the stats that don't get mentioned as often are that he also leads the league in shots missed at 1,019 (which is 140 more than the next guy), turnovers at 366 (which is 20% more than the number two on the list), and although he has made more three pointers than anybody else he has also missed more of his attempts (622) than all but three other players in the entire NBA have attempted. Add to that his usage percentage at 40.7 is second in NBA history so even though his numbers are at times surreal they are not as surprising when you consider how many shots per game he actually takes.

Giannis on the other hand is only 5th in points per game at 27.4, is barely in the top 20 for assists (19th) at 6.0 and really doesn't shoot 3 pointers. However, he leads the league in 2 pointers made at 643 and is also 11th in the league for overall field goal percentage at 58.1% - a category James Harden is nowhere to be found. However, those numbers are not why the "Greek freak" should win the MVP this season - the reason is that he actually plays on both ends of the floor. Giannis as well as being 4th in win shares on the offensive end, also leads the league in defensive rating and defensive win shares and (IMLTHO) most importantly he is the undoubted leader of the team with the highest number of WINS in the NBA this season. The 57 wins that they have so far is already 13 more than they had last season and 10 more than ESPN predicted them to have in their preseason predictions where they were picked to finish tied for 4th with the Pacers. The Bucks have massively overachieved this year and Giannis is primarily the reason.

James Harden has been extraordinary at times this season there is no doubt. It's just that Giannis has been just a little bit better on both ends of the floor and for that reason he should be this years' MVP.

Budenholzer should also win Coach of the Year as well.

No way has Giannis been better than harden offensively.

I didn't say he had. Giannis is 4th in win shares on the offensive end. James Harden is 1st. The reason I think Giannis should win is that he has excelled on BOTH ends of the floor. The Bucks also have 57 wins (13 more than last season already) which is number one in the NBA. No way were they expected to do that.

Pointless because one takes a ton of threes and the other doesnt. Steph Curry has never finished in the top 10 meanwhile DeAndre Jordan is the all time record Holder.

He has been better defensively, not offensively.

You have just picked a line out of a post and commented on that. The overall post was that I think Giannis should be MVP. Instead of being a "smart arse" and nit picking. Who do you think should be the MVP? I think it is close, but as I said I would choose Giannis.

When I re-read my post I saw how that could be misinterpreted. What I meant was as a combination of offense and defense together that overall Giannis has been better in total on both ends of the floor. Sorry!

Because it's a stupid line. It adds less than nothing, its actively misleading.

Giannis is the MVP though

Ah yeah that makes more sense however I will say the gap isnt that big. Houston were horrible at the start and harden has basically carried them to third with almost no help for the majority of the season.

I've got to admit the part about Harden being nowhere to be found in the field goal percentage category is essentially irrelevant. It was my little dig at his lack of efficiency overall. Even when I'm trying to be objective snarkiness inevitably sneaks in.

However the fact the fact that Giannis shoots mostly 2s and is pretty darn good at it I think is definitely worth mentioning.

Pivotal win tonight, with a bit of luck probably locking up the number 1 seed. Houston now only a game and a half back of Denver for the second seed and a better head to head record. Still a lot to play for.

Being above Denver has no meaning for Warriors, they don’t need homecourt advantage to sweep them. Houston are more tricky because it’s closer by Houston will not catch Golden State anymore.

Milwaukee and possibly Toronto would have homecourt advantage in Finals which is important. A lot of journalists are now expecting Boston to win the East but I hope it does not happen.

Being above Denver probably doesn't matter to the Dubs. However, since I'm expecting Houston to get the number 2 or 3 seed getting the number 1 seed puts the Warriors on the other side of the Western bracket. I would like to avoid the Rockets as long as possible and in an ideal world have somebody else knock them out.

Knicks really do have a really good core of young talented players. If they can be blessed and draft Zion and get 2 big free agents MSG might be the place to be again very soon.

Knicks and Pheonix next for the Rockets, feels like we should get 2nd or 3rd for sure now, especially since Blazers and Nuggets play each others twice.

Would it be enough for Miami to simply beat the Nets the final game of the season at this point?

Nets 39-40
Heat 38-40

I can see the Nets losing their next two @Bucks @Pacers. That would put them on 39-42. Miami plays @Wolves, @Raptors, vs Sixers and @Nets. Assuming they lose out before the last game, they'd be 38-43. I think they have the tiebreaker against the Nets if they both end up at 39-43...

I really want D-Wade in the POs even if it's just for one round.

I really hope so, as the last 3 years have been a tough watch

Talk around the league is that talk is in the works for KD to be a Knick so its gaining momentum.

Obviously that would be the dream, but i've been scarred too many times in the past as a Knicks fan so I will believe it when he signs the contract

You and me both buddy you and me both.

The most Knicks thing to happen would be us to get the worst record in the league and then get the 3rd overall pick and then get Butler and Kemba instead of Kyrie and KD:wenger::wenger::lol:

any chance Dallas signs a top player in the summer?

Nope. I think their trade for Porzingis was the hail mary in terms of getting a 2nd star for Luka. Whether Porzingis comes back the same player is a different question.

ffs, so no chance of competing any time soon...

They can sign one, if they decide to. If any one of Durant, Kawhi, Kyrie or Klay is open to going there, they'd sign them in a heartbeat. The more likely case is that Butler and Kemba will be the best left on the table and I don't see Dallas going for that.

So the Bucks have basically sealed homecourt for the playoffs right? Looked at the standings today and stunned to see Orlando and Charlotte can still make the playoffs. Apart from Denver-OKC and maybe Portalnd-Clippers, it looks like we can all skip watching the 1st round. Not many competitive series there tbh. Also Russ locked in another triple double season which is ridiculous.

Pacers - Celtics should be good imo. But, yeah, after the 1st round it will become great with pretty much every series being competitive.

This last few weeks of the regular season tends to be dire basketball league wide. Love Giannis not falling into that pattern, his ultra competitive approach to the game. So much stat padding and garbage ball being played, never going to happen but cutting the schedule down to make each game more meaningful is a very attractive concept to me at this point. That and somehow sorting out the scourge of tanking which makes the last month mostly unwatchable.

Roll on the playoffs.

I'm pretty sure any team would do well if they get to draft Zion and get 2 big free agent signings all in 1 summer.
