NBA 2018-2019

Is Luka the best rookie since LeBron? He is absolutely phenomenal and plays like a player on his peak.
Luka is the better player with more potential, but Blake was insane.

I don't think the rules were meant to be interpreted that way though that's the problem. We have gone from letting players essentially beat each other up in the late 80s to today where players have actually resorted to guarding James Harden with their hands behind their backs because they're afraid he'll somehow initiate a foul. It' not the rules that are at fault it's how they are being interpreted and the refs and the league need to do something about it.

I will say that once the playoffs come around that a lot of this ticky tacky stuff calling of fouls does tend to disappear so at least the league is doing something right when it matters.
I've always wondered about that, why is it allowed to have 2 hugely different style of refereeing ? Seems crazy and unfair to me.

No. Griffin, Embiid, Simmons, Durant and Davis were all as good or better. And i think i'm forgetting someone.

That said, that's a who's who of MVPs, potential MVPs or guys who would have been MVPs if not for injuries. Griffin was a monster. Still is a great player in fact. Luka belongs in that category more or less

Simmons and Embiid weren't better IMO. The others, I dunno, possibly. At times it is easy to forget.

What impresses me most about Luka is not how good he is, but how mature his play is. He is playing like he has been in NBA for a decade.

Kevin Durant was an unstoppable scorer from the moment he set foot in the league. Yes, Luka has been seriously impressive, but not as much as KD imho. As for his maturity, that's only surprising to people who never saw him play in Europe. It bears repeating, Luka Doncic wasn't a prospect, he was the best player in the world outside the NBA. It was a given that he'd be really good right away in the NBA as well, because he was already incredibly good

KD was definitely the better scorer. He has been possibly the best scorer since Jordan.

I know that Luka was the best player in the world outside of NBA, but he also was 18 and the game in NBA is so different. European MVPs like Jacikevicius or Navarro never cut it on NBA, while a kid coming from Europe being this mature is a first for me. Giannis was nowhere as good for example. Gasol was great but not as good as Lukas.

I agree. I wish they'd just call it the way they call it in the playoffs all the time. This ticky tacky crap gets on my nerves.

Doncic is averaging the same amount of points as Durant's rookie season. On less minutes and higher efficiency.

In a slower league, with much worse spacing and rules that weren't so dramatically skewed towards the offence

Navarro "failed" in the NBA because he didn't like the NBA. Jasikevicius never really was given a fair chance. But the more relevant point is neither guy was as good as Doncic. Doncic last season was the best player seen in Europe since Ginobili edit it seems writing [man*u] auto-corrects to man united

(And btw, Jasikevicius would be a good player in the current NBA)

Interested in how Houston go with Capela injured. The West is so competitive that any setback can completely change the trajectory of a team.

Harden might be a cheating bastard but there's no denying the guy is bloody good.

But for real though, Memphis have completely fallen off a cliff.

Three losses in a row, and 5 losses in the last 10 games, for the Celtics. (When) will they figure it out? And what's wrong? I don't understand how they got worse with a healthy squad.

Is it actually possible that Lakers do not make the playoffs?

Discontentment among the team. Role players are playing for their own future while they've to share minutes with star players who're underperforming.

Too many players who need to perform to ensure that they get paid. Players like Brown and Tatum have good reputation but if they go through two years of being sub-15 ppg and low on stats it would hurt their stock. Especially in Brown's case this could be a difference between being a max player and a $48million / 3 years kind of player.

They need a trade IMO.

Right now they have Hayward who is a shadow of the guy he once was, Brown and Smart who aren't happy, Tatum who has been up and down and Kyrie who is publicly calling out his team.

I do think they will pick it back up slightly, however it's toxic and something needs to change. This is a 67 win team according to Bill Simmons!

Exactly. And the players all know theyre just assets to Ainge, nobody's going to be stupid enough to sacrifice their own future for the Celtics benefit.

When you look at Utah's schedule compared to the Lakers, Utah has a much nicer schedule. Lebron changes all of that mind.

Yeah I doubt Lakers finish above Utah. Utah will go on a run like they did last year, for some reason they again have one of the easier schedules in the league. Last year they went from 19-28 to 48-34, an amazing 29-6 run during similar period - this year they are starting from 24-21 at similar point so might get to similar record without any problem.

Out of teams currently sitting in the playoffs spots I would have more doubts regarding Clippers and Spurs. Spurs have had an amazing run recently but their personnel is still not that great. They've been playing great though and Spurs are always Spurs.

Clippers just don't have enough talent IMO but 24-18 is great and they've been fairly consistent, though at one point they were 16-8 from what I remember and top of the conference.

Denver, Warriors, OKC and Rockets I think are out of reach for Lakers. I like to think that so are Blazers (even though it will be a first round exit again). So it's basically between Lakers, Utah, Sacramento, Spurs, Clippers and maybe Pelicans, Timberwolves and Mavs for the remaining three spots.

BTW I hope someone jumped on my under 44.5 wins (1.90) and out of playoffs (2.30) preseason bets on Minnesota. Such amazing value.

And this is exactly why we shouldn’t take any Warriors slump seriously. When they turn it on they are unbeatable.

I just wish Durant fecks off already. Ruined good three years of the league with that decision.

What they did against the Nuggets isn't normal even for them tbf. But, yeah. We all know win or lose the title is up to them and no one else

Yeah. Just a nice little reminder for the rest of the league that everything is irrelevant while Durant is still there.

Utah are good again.

It will be between Lakers, Clippers and Kings for that 8th seed I feel. Going to be a tight race. I feel for a team like Clippers it's a win-win, they either get a playoffs spot and get more exposure for free agents (they could even sign two max players in the Summer while keeping Harris), Sacramento are just a fun team doing their best and so young they still have plenty of time to make it, for Lakers it'll be a huge blow if they don't make the playoffs.

Spurs are too solid, the current top 5 will remain top 5 though the order will change.

Currently I reckon:

West:

1. Warriors
2. Denver
3. OKC
4. Portland
5. Houston
6. Utah
7. San Antonio
8. Lakers

East:

1. Milwaukee
2. Toronto
3. Indiana
4. Philadelphia
5. Boston
6. Brooklyn
7. Miami
8. Charlotte

Playoffs:

Warriors v Lakers
Denver v San Antonio
OKC v Utah
Portland v Houston

Milwaukee v Charlotte
Toronto v Miami
Indiana v Brooklyn
Philly v Boston

Tasty.

Why there are pundits who claim that Curry is not a top 5 player in the league?

Why there are pundits who claim that Curry is not a top 5 player in the league?

Well because the league also has LeBron, Kawhi, AD, Giannis, Harden and KD. For any of them you may say "how the feck are they not considered top 5?" and there can be only 5 players in the top 5.

After those 7 there's a step down but all 7 are amazing players.
