NBA 2014-2015

those would be unusually extenuating circumstances. The 08 Hawks didn't acquire a star at the deadline, pick up great center from freaking Lebanon and get an all pro power forward back from injury. They are who their record said they were.

Apparently not, since they took the #1 seed to game 7,should have been a sweep by that logic.

You just can't write off a team that had J smoove,J.J,Horford and Bibby...how sway?

If that team was so good, why did they finish 37-45 in one of the worst conferences of all time.

You are just looking after the fact and saying if they weren't to 7 they were good and if they didn't they were bad. That's silly because obviously.

That's like saying if the thunder (who 2 MVP calibre players) are so good why did they miss the playoffs(not comparing both teams btw) the Regular season doesn't always go as planned, you have injuries and other factors that may affect the teams, a lot of things can distract a team in an 82 game season, as opposed to 7 intense games in a series, playoff basketball is slower so match ups are really important, I was alluding to the fact that the Hawks were a strong team with really good players(who may or may not have been together for the whole regular season) could have actually given the aging celtics a tough time, there are certain teams you should never write off in a 7 game series irrespective of reg season record.

Those situations aren't remotely similar. The thunder had major injuries and a historically great conference to contend with. If there are extenuating circumstances then yes, the regular season CAN be misleading. What were the extenuating circumstances for the Hawks?

4 guys started 77 or more games! Their conference was beyond awful!

Like I said, some teams generally feck up in the regular season...you have to factor in a lot of things, They were missing a Point Guard for one, until they traded for Bibby, as for the terrible chemistry in the team and everything else, we'd have to go back to 07/08, but my overall point still stands that Hawks team was strong, perhaps all they needed was a really good point guard (they traded for Bibby in February just before the playoffs)and a full season under Horfods belt(he was drafted that year), that was their last season under 500 until last season of course, I can see how they could've matched up to the Celtics in the playoffs though.

This could go on forever, we could go back in time and find examples of teams that have done feck all in the regular season in a relatively weaker conference and still ended up doing well in the playoffs(by their season standards), a fecked up reg. season in a weak conference doesn't necessarily mean the team is weak, it just means they had a fecked up season...... Now if the Hawks had taken the Celtics to a game 7 with a bunch scrubs(average players ), that'd have shocked me not with 5 solid players (2 all stars, who had a bad reg. season).

That's just playoff basketball,no real surprise there.

We started 24-6...

And then Casey wen't full retard with his ISO plays and his obsession with playing 3 guards at a time.

Don't look too much into that start. We played the same all season. It's just that at the beginning of the year we shot the ball better - we were just hot. It was of no coincidence those first 6 losses all came to proper playoff teams with excellent coaching. The cavs twice, the Mavs, the bulls twice , and the heat, who all nullified our perimeter game.

Its whatever though, just want Casey fired.

The Hawks did do it with a bunch of average players. After they traded for Bibby, they went 15-18, winning 45% of their games. Before they traded for Bibby they went 22-27, winning...wait for it...45% of their games. The idea that Bibby coming to the team made them better is not borne out by the facts. The Hawks turned the ball over a lot, they were poor shooters and they couldn't prevent their opponents from getting offensive rebounds. They were below average in both offensive and defensive efficiency. I honestly can't believe this has gone on so long. Hawks fans wouldn't say that was a good team. Hawks players probably wouldn't say that either.

Scott Brooks is available :D

Joe Johnson,Al Horford,Mike Bibby and Josh Smith are/were a bunch of average players ? Interesting....same Hawks team that took the Celtics to game 7 and were above 500. up until last season ? Average indeed.

It's not the same Hawks team year to year and they aren't the same players for their entire career. Horford wasn't anywhere near the player he is today. Bibby wasn't anywhere near the player he was with Sacramento. Josh Smith sucks and Joe Johnson is a good scorer but he is a ball stopper who doesn't do much else.

They still made the conference semis in the next 3 playoffs as the 4th,3rd and 5th seed respectively (not good enough to contend which would explain the 2 sweeps, but still a relatively strong team) so I'd like to think they greatly improved as a team when they signed Bibby, even if it was a Bibby at the end of his career.

The conference semis, meaning they won 1 series?

You're very harsh on Smith, he's been very good as a 6th man for the Rockets so far.

How come there's so many raptors fans on these forums, i thought i was alone following a dead franchise.

I'm a Pistons fan.

I'd fancy us against the Spurs, but I'm not confident if we play the Clippers, hopefully that series will drag to a game 7.

We just aren't there yet imo.
I disagree, we have a very good team, T-Jones, Ariza, Brew, and Smith all can be game changers on their day, plus I think DMO will come back soon and if we hopefully reach the conference finals Beverly will be back.

What a game between Clippers and Spurs. One of the best games so far in the playoffs.

Ty Lawson wants to take up the soon-to-be vacated PG position at Dallas. Fair fecks to him, he's going to have a much better time playing for them then playing for the Nuggets.

Why do I have the misfortune of supporting two clubs owned by Stan the man?

He'll be back sooner. Once the swelling goes down (he had surgery on Monday), he'll be fitted with a mask. Only thing holding him back would be vision.

As far as matchups go, it's impossible to clamp Curry and Thompson down for 4 games in a row. They'll have their nights, but Mike and Tony Allen will make them work. The Grizzlies have the advantage in the paint with Z-Bo and Gasol, and Courtney Lee has been phenomenal against Portland.
