Nba 2011-2012

The Mavs should be excellent still, but the Heat will have moved a bit closer, perhaps.

Haywood
Nowitzki
Marion
Stevenson
Kidd

Bench:
Beaubois
Odom
Terry

The Mavs have been waiting to promote Beaubois, they're very high on him, and Odom and Terry will make theirs probably the best bench in the league. The main difference will be the lost of Caron Butler who wasn't even there for the playoff run and if Haywood can come close to replacing Chandler.

The Heat meanwhile *should* get better, another year for their young stars, Haslem is back, but they keep changing the line-up and personnel so much that they may not be any better as a team.

What about Vince Carter? He might start. So Odom and Marion will come of the bench.

I really don't expect anything from Carter at this point, I'm sorta hoping he doesn't end up taking many shots. The way they keep Terry back for when the backups are out means they have a volume shooter out there when the main scorers are resting, unlike most teams.

I liked the balance of having a SG that wasn't expected to score, they got plenty of points elsewhere and Stevenson could guard the best player on the other team out of the PG, SG and SF.

Carlisle is such a defensive minded coach as well, and Carter isn't known for his defending. Will be interesting to see how that works.

I don't think the Mavericks will be a major power this season. I would be surprised if they reached their conference final, and I don't think they'll manage more than 45 wins in the regular season.

They signed Vince Carter but who knows how he'll perform.

Based on what?

Still stinging from that Finals loss perhaps? :smirk:

It's not like I'm controlling this around here. I'm only making a prediction, and if I fail then the joke is on me..

I really think Dallas overachieved last season. They are like Miami in 2006. They benefited from the sharp decline of the Lakers and the Spurs.

And even if they were now the same unit as last year, I wouldn't bet on them repeating what they did again. They are one year older, they have less hunger now for a ring, and they will be under more pressure from the media now, because they are the champions.

Add to that losing Chandler, which in my opinion was the most influential piece in their championship run, and it's not clear yet if Odom can fit in nicely there after getting used to playing with the Lakers for the past 7 years.

But you're right. That loss in the finals still hurts.. Baaad.

I don't know, Nowitzki looked like a 7 foot tall Larry Bird out there in the Finals, I suspect he's taken his game to another level, and the team with him.

A shame they couldn't keep Stevenson and Chandler, though, with all the money Cuban has put into the team, to not even keep them together for 2 years, seems strange. Maybe it wasn't possible to sign them to those salaries, that's the only thing I can imagine, or it would have forced him to gut the bench to clear space.

so the Mavs backed into their championship.

So, the season begins in less than two hours. Tasty encounters on opening day.

Predictions:
New York
Miami
Chicago
Oklahoma City
LA Clippers

Let's go HEAT!!

What?! The Knicks, I'll believe that when I see it. Miami is well ahead of them for my money. Of course NY has the talent to win, but they're not a team yet, and they don't defend.

And I can't see the Clippers becoming better than the Mavs this year. I'd go with:

Dallas
Miami
Chicago
Oklahoma City
Memphis
Lakers

Ah, that makes a lot more sense! Without Pierce I'm thinking the Knicks can definitely win this one. But NY has to adjust to a pretty different lineup themselves.

It's only the first quarter, but it looks like the Knicks have decided to play some defense this season..

Well, the Celts are their own worst enemy here, without Pierce they don't have many players who can create their own shot.

Rondo is the only player with more than 1 fg, but the Celts are still on pace to hit 92. The Knicks are on pace to hit 136.

Allen is not getting me any fantasy points today!

Don't worry, he'll hit 4/5 3-pointers in the fourth quarter that'll bring you all the points you need.

On the other hand, Chandler doesn't exactly scream points for me so far.. Mere 2 blocks worth mentioning..

Celtics come back strong, Rondo playing well but Knicks D is non-existent.

Great start to the season, so good to have the NBA back. Anthony played very well particularly in the 4th quarter. Rondo was good for the Celtics. I see Garnett is still a despicable cnut.

Hope the Lakers can win later but without Bynum and Kobe injured I doubt we'll start with a win.

Jeez, can't believe the Celts can back, and then I can't believe they gave the lead back!

Ended up a good game for Allen, after scoring 2 in the first quarter!

Hopeful from NY, but with Pierce the Celts win that one.

Good first quarter from Miami, I just hope they quit this bad habit of throwing huge leads late in the game.

Great opener....can't wait for my boy Rose to return later though

Heat playing very well, Mavs don't look interested.

29-8 for the Mavs in the fourth??!!

Anyway, Great performance from the Heat, and it's still early in the season for Dallas, but they got to get their hunger back! Nowitzki really needs to set himself a new goal to go for.

Chandler's absence can be felt as well..

Anyway, great result. Boston next! Let's go HEAT!!

Half of these lakers reserve players I have never heard of. Someone needs to tell Gasol he is not a PG, last two possessions he ended up shooting and missing long shots.

LeBron played a helluva game. Absolute beast.

Time for Blackmamba to take back what is his.

Wow, Artest, I mean the man known as World Peace, can't even get more minutes under Brown than Josh McRoberts and Devin Ebanks. He's getting about half, and that's with Bynum out and them needing size.

Time to drop him from my fantasy team.

Not a good sign for the Mavs, Odom was about useless, and they definitely missed the defensive presence of Stevenson and Chandler. Again, I'm surprised that Cuban didn't try harder to keep his team together after he finally got that ring he's been after. At least keep them together for 1 season.

I turned it off halfway through, and i wouldn't be surprised if that 4th quarter run for the Mavs was against the Heat bench with the game well out of reach.

So you are declaring war? :nervous:

I'm not having a great fantasy day either.. I wasn't expecting much from Bosh, but 2 for 9 shooting is not exactly what I had in mind when I drafted him..

Turnovers and missed FTs cost us big time. Defensively we were impressive but need to cut out the mistakes soon.

Rose's game winner was a fantastic shot but poor from Gasol.

Edit: forget Gasol that was just a great shot.

I think this is a better result for the Lakers, because no matter what, they need to add solid players to this team. This team is not going anywhere. Had they won tonight, may be they would have thought they'll be alright with their current squad, and try less hard to add good players/stars.

On a side note, WHAT A GAME!!

Orlando should just trade Howard and get it over with.

Oklahoma City picked up just where they left last year, but Orlando are becoming a mere shadow of themselves. Fully deserved win for Oklahoma today.

I've declared War on Christmas, might as well.

I was just going to make a World B. Free joke, but I didn't realize that guy was actually named Lloyd B. Free, and he was given the nickname World by others. And he was a better player than Artest anyway.

Who ever has DeAndre Jordan got 8 blocks out of him last night! All the Clips has great box scores, but then you usually do playing the Warriors.

I think RDCR07 has him.

I also got 6 blocks from Chandler against Boston, that I didn't see coming..

By the way, my predictions were spot on! 5/5 (Although I was a bit predicting the obvious)

Dallas getting a 2nd drubbing in a row. They will lose tonight against Denver! Brilliant!

Lakers struggling against Kings. I never thought I'd say that. Jveezy will be thrilled.
