Nasri To City - Done Deal!

read my post again. I said Fergie probably used that situation that we needed investment in the squad.

Nonsense too, have you been brainwashed by MUST?

Gill has repeated for years that the money is there, SAF has consistently said he doesn't feel the value or need to buy at that price.

SAF knew this year would be big due to the departures.

try and have a discussion instead of throwing abuse.

I'm sorry but it's difficult to have a discussion when one party has such an incredibly outlandish opinion.

If you really think some thick scouser had any bearing whatsoever on Fergie's long term vision of our squad then a discussion would be pointless.

At a very big push, if anything, it is an opposite of the situation. Ferguson knew already that we were going to be investing heavily in the sqaud this summer and he told Rooney this. I don't really think these assurances were integral to Rooney's contract talks though, it was obviously purely monetary.

Remind me the last summer there was as many ins and outs as there will be this summer.. Lets wait to the 1st of September and revisit this conversation.. Leave out the VDS/DDG and the possible Scholes replacement and you would still see a vast difference in the squad.. I am not saying all of this is down to Rooney.. But I am saying this spending is definitely one of many reasons for which Rooney is staying at United..

You're insulting Fergie's intelligence by that logic. As if he wouldnt want to establish a stronger team than last season, and also, he's gone on record as sayin he wants to leave the club in a very healthy state when he retires. The spending is not down to Rooney, but to Fergie, Gill & the Glazers :wenger:

What we've spent isnt a helluva lot by top clubs standards. With said clubs needing key-area players - they buy them, unless you're Wenger of course. Even then, Jones was a panic buy this year because everyone came in for him this Summer, so all we would have brought in & spent up to this point is De Gea & Young - £36m or so!

Rooney's stayin at United because we compete year in year out - if the squad is so shit how come we won the league & got to the final of the Champs League?

If he was gonna go to City, do you not think their squads as good as ours? Absolutely not. The league table doesnt lie. He could have gone there if United hadnt given him the pay deal - not because Uniteds squad is shit!

please keep Rooney issues out of this Nasri thread...its getting off-topic....

No quotes. But it has been written by Bob Cass who is one of Fergie's few journo friends. Wouldn't be surprised if Fergie helped plant this story.

I think this could be a message from Fergie that he is not after Nasri, and possibly is not so happy at United being linked with him by Nasris agent.

Which would mean that Nasri is off to City while we're chasing two unrealistic targets.

I still think we won't sign a midfielder :(

Bit of a leap there.

If Fergie planted the story that he thinks Nasri is going to City then it's not much of a leap to conclude he's not in for Nasri... Same goes for the interest in Modric and Sneijder, both of whom look unattainable.

who else can we sign?? no CM purchase for us is it :(

I wasn't a manic depressive until I read some of these posts.

I'd imagine Fergie won't waste his time chasing unrealistic targets.

Hopefully, yes. That's why I find it difficult to believe that Cass has it on good authority that we're after Modric and Sneijder.

Fergie might have just told him that United are not chasing Nasri, and Cass is , perhaps mistakenly, filling in the blanks by suggesting Modric and Sneijder.

I keep reading over and over again that we won't be signing a midfielder in this window.

What the hell are people basing that on?

I think that, apart from Nasri, there aren't really any standout candidates that we are aware of. It seems that Nasri, Modric and Sneijder are the three that people are expecting, but they are all hard to acquire for various reasons.

Most of this stems from a lack of belief that we would spend big on a single player, and that is what it is going to take. Though, it would not be surprising if Fergie went and bought a midfielder that nobody expected.

If that were the case then it would of been done by now.

If we do sign a midfielder and a top name midfielder at that it makes sense that it's going to be the transfer that takes the longest to conclude.

I dont think there's any interest whatsoever in Sneijder, I dont think Modric is available for anyone so I think our attention is on Nasri and I expect it to be very clear where he's going by the end of the week

Lack of credible rumours; big money already splashed out for other targets; Fergie's reluctance to enter bidding wars; having just about enough players capable of playing central midfield to try and get by; lack of emphasis on central midfield in our tactics.

Perhaps it already has been done. Fergie might see Phil Jones as a midfield option.

I agree with the final paragraph. It does look like there is something in the Nasri link, though I wouldn't be surprised if it rumbled on for a while even if Nasri tells Arsenal that he wants to leave.

Why is the Nasri story so lacking in credibility? There have been enough comments from Wenger and Nasri to indicate that it doesn't look as though he'll still be with Arsenal next year.

But it seems he'll join City.

That's about how I feel, I think that if we had someone less known lined up we would have signed him up by now - no reason not to. Usually when we drag our transfers a fair bit longer it's because they are complicated, and they are complicated for a reason - Tevez joined in August because we couldn't get the paperwork done, Berbatov joined on the last day because Tottenham were playing hardball.

I think there isn't much interest from us in midfielders, most of those who would improve us drastically are too expensive, and there aren't really many promising affordable ones around.
