Mykhaylo Mudryk

As a POC I find it hilarious how over the top some of these things are taken. It's all posturing and not really done to protect anyone, especially from the likes of the BBC.

If he wants to recite a rap song let the man do so, there's actual racists out there doing racist things, trying to crucify persons like him does absolutely nothing to solve the genuine issues.

Oh, are we going to be rational about this? Thought this was ammunition for wishing suspension for a competitor. If so, yes, clearly, reciting a rap song isn't racist. Old thing back - brilliant

Very well said.

It's certainly not a clever thing to do in the modern day, but to label him a racist for singing along to rap music?

Doesn't matter, he used a racist word. Cavani got a 3 game ban for that, surely the FA will be consistent. Hell, the word Cavani used wasn't even racist, so this is actually worse, and the FA should respond accordingly.

So now you cannot sing along to any song that is played over radio stations and TV that has any remotely offensive content?
You can sing what you want. If you also video yourself doing it and then upload it (or stream it) then you're a bit of a feckwit.

it's how woke people have become and sensitive in this modern generation that someone can or will get offended by the daftest of things....that said, have to be smarter as there are a TON of kids that do vids on tik tok where the N word is used and they skip that word.

comparison here....there is a kid who was a big time HS football recruit who was white and did the exact same thing Mudryk did. He's basically now been black listed, no pun intended, by all colleges from getting a football scholarship. Every college that offered has pulled their offer and the one school where he committed told him they wouldn't take him. This is a 17 yr old kid who now basically, over one stupid video, has somewhat ruined his future before it has even started

Absolutely. He was silly but you have to factor in language.

It is likely he does understand it if his English is passable but if I liked music from another language, I would sing along through repetition as opposed to having any knowledge of the content.

It’s ridiculous that he has had to apologise but on this day and age he has to and move on. Welcome to England.

Not just like that in England mate. While i have an issue with people getting mad about it considering the context of hte video in that it was signing the song, hard to use the he didn't know b/c of language barrier thing but i get what you're saying

The FA has backed itself into a corner with the Cavani nonsense so it's another chance for the most incompetent association in football to show its quality yet again

This is silly. Can they do that for a video he posted many months before he even joined the premier league?

They’ve punished players retrospectively several times in the past:

The FA has previously punished players for historic social media posts which were seen to have brought the game into disrepute.

Middlesbrough’s Marc Bola was punished earlier this year over a tweet he posted when he was just 14 years old.

Bola, then aged 24, was given a warning and ordered to complete an education course over a homophobic social media post.

Similarly, an investigation was opened up in 2021 when a past tweet from Jarrod Bowen was discovered to have used offensive racist terminology.

Bowen also received a warning and told to complete an education course for using the N-word in a tweet when he was just 15 years old.

Andre Gray was given a four-match ban in 2016 for homophobic comments made on social media in 2012.

Andre Gray got banned in 2016 (4 games) for Tweets he made in 2012 so yeah, for sure.

Fair enough, then yeah Mudryk will probably get a ban then.

Such a daft decision. The FA are just winging it at this point.

The Cavani thing was an absolute joke, this is worse but in normal circumstances wouldn't be enough for a ban. But you have to be consistent

I was just about to post the same story. The 17 year old kid is now practically banned by the NCAA for singing a rap lyric. Ridiculous!

Are you black?

No one said he is racist, who knows what he is, but a lot of black peoples do not like it and I feel like you just have to respect that rather than do word salads to excuse something just because you might be doing the same thing around your non black friends.

Why not just eliminate the word completely? Playing the devil's advocate...has there been another word/term that was so disrespectful/hurtful that everyone in the world was banned from using the word EXCEPT for one race of people?

I don't care. Ban him for half a season.

If anyone thinks this is racist, you're the racist. It reminds me of a clip I saw a few days ago of some lad in America wearing a Mexican outfit with a sombrero and all, asking students if they felt offended by his outfit. They all said they felt offended following up with some bullshitl like "its culturally disrespectful" but when he asked the Mexicans they all loved it and encouraging him to wear it. People take shit so seriously these days to stand up for shit they have nothing to do with, as if it needs to be stood up for when it really doesn't.

Irish people get very offended on the 17th of March every year.

Silly.

But ban him from the league anyway

if he was singing something from Deicide or Morbid Angel, would he also get charged? serious question.

We’ll yes I’ve seen Gay people refer to themselves as the F word doesn’t mean you should say it just like I’ve seen Asian people refer to themselves as the P word, doesn’t mean anyone else should say it, just don’t say the word if you ain’t of that race of people to avoid confusion, it isn’t that complicated, it’s one word.

I haven't read much about this other than he sang along to a rap tune. Well, the precedent is there with Cavani. A completely innocent post on social media the cultural context of which was ignored and he was summarily banned.

There will definitely be a 3 game ban.
