It’s quite possibly the most brazen display of racism, on such a mass scale that I can remember. You don’t just pull that out without being sure it’ll land. I don’t really pay attention to US politics, but I think I probably underestimated just how far gone the American right is if they're literally cheering fecking nazi salutes.

Maybe he wasn't being fascist, and he's just taking the salute back? Kind of like how some words have been taken back by certain groups in order to take the power out of them for racists? So by doing a Nazi salute he's just saying "we're taking it back". But it's just the symbol of the Republican Party, and not at all fascist in any way.
Kind of like how they're evicting people who live in the country from their homes and sending them away, and testing families apart, and removing themselves from international initiatives and trade, and running military operations on the borders of other nations, and talking about having a birthright to expand into foreign territories, and....

In 2016 you could be forgiven for believing this. Now though, you have to not be paying attention to all the things he and his cabinet/allies have said they want to do (anti-immigration, abortion limitation, anti-LGBTQ rights, tariffs and protectionist policies, even suggesting 'buying Greenland', demanding government workers report on DEI, outlawing pornography, etc). It's not small government libertarianism at all. its big government corporate conservatism with a mercantilist view of macro economics and an extreme far-right persuasion that moves toward things like Great Replacement Theory and more.

I think everyone is profoundly bored of me arguing my case here so I won’t bother. The one thing I do want to say is that I think the sort of policies I’m accusing them of being inclined towards are horrible. Because that’s how you end up with easy access to guns, big corporations cutting corners on food and medicine safety, more pollution, more greenhouse gases, environmental destruction, erosion of the welfare safety net, removal of legislation intended to protect minorities etc etc etc. I do find it strange that a lot of you seem so invested in denying that Trump would be this way inclined. Because I don’t think attributing stuff like that to him does him any favours.

This is like all the dystopian what if movies and written works manifest. It's so out there it wouldn't even be seen as credible as a script. Even The Man in the High Castle frames around the Axis powers winning not one of the Allies turning into a bunch of Nazi-whooping lunatics. This is so far-fetched bile like The Turner Diaries aren't a patch on it.
What's even more insane is the amount of people in there who will have had family members lost fighting in WWII against the very thing they're cheering on. Then you have POC and Jews cheering, too. It's just utterly bizarre.

I think that's the point. He can't get much higher than he is now, so it's probably downhill from here. Not that I think he'll be jailed or anything, but I wouldn't be surprised if he has reached peak influence.

Most likely, yes. But Trump isn't one for thorough reflection. He views the world as a businessman: every opportunity he's not cashing in on is for someone else and leaves him poorer (or not richer, anyway). It's as simplistic as applying household economics to state finance, but here we are.
It might enrich leading US business people though, so Trump might not even notice if it leaves the country as a whole poorer.
I mean he's working on brain implants so...he's certainly planning on taking over the world. Of course he's also a dumb feck but pure naked greed, ambition, and narcissism can get you a long way in this world with the right (wrong?) luck.
Maybe you're right, and I understimate his position. But I have a hard time believing that he's really working on anything on a technical level to the degree that he is actually indispensable. I think generally the merchant class/captains of industry types are safer and can wield more indirect influence when they stay out of the limelight. Musk might feel and seem invincible, but ultimately power doesn't really reside with. If he were a more stable and composed character, like Bezos, I'd be more sceptical about his downfall, but I really do think he has put himself in a dangerous position.

I think it's reasonable to argue it might have been an awkward mistake or whatever, and not intended as it looked, but to argue, in absolute terms, that it definitely wasn't a Nazi salute is seriously strange to me. It's the most enthusiastic and excitable looking Nazi salute I've ever seen in my life, and then he did it again

That is (presumably) a grown man, tweeting another grown man who does not know he even exists, calling him by his first name like if they're friends, saying he 'has his back 100%' and asking him to apologize for something he clearly has no remorse for.
Do these people have no pride in themselves? No spine? How can you look at yourself in the mirror after posting something like that?
