Murtough's 2nd Summer | How did he do?

You saw how we played in the first games of the season and concluded that a versatile footballer who's good at the press isn't the profile of player the manager wanted?
Not sure if you misread me. I am saying Maddison is a similar profile, but arguably better at it because he is better dropping deep and is a better passer.

I'm saying that that's not the style of player the club wanted though.

Those of you who want a new DOF, I'm guessing you all would be happy if he wanted to bring his own head coach/manager in to work for him?

This wouldn't have to happen, it's not like a DoF only knows one style of football and type of player. It's more ETH would have to agree on player profiles he likes for each position and then the DoF would go out and find options that fit the mould. People make out a DoF is like some mythical transfer creature that will cure all our ills but it's just as likely to fail if our scouts aren't good enough, which has been hinted at (and even directly addressed by LVG and Mou) for years.

Averagely.

3 big signings. Game changers, got to be happy with that (referring to Onana, Mount, Hojlund)

Felt the Amrabat deal could have been done so much earlier in the window. Deadline day loan for simple deal baffles me. Reguiilon is desperation, Evans im still struggling with and a backup keeper was essential after Hendo, Bishop, Kovar all left.

So all in all - Decent

The outgoings though - So Poor.

Maguire, AWB, Martial. In no possible way do they suit or fit in with how ETH wants to play. Not at all. We still have way too many "fringe" players stinking the place out - Lindelof, McTominey, Donny. actually like Donny but is is not working out here so why keep him?

To be honest though, the task of "reshaping" our squad is massive due to years of poor decisions. And our outgoings have been quite high this year, but to still have certain players in matchday squads is frustrating.

With Sancho looking to have burnt bridges, i'd add a RW to a list or areas of concern. Dalot is decent, but AWB is a shocker at RB. RB, RW and another striker is a must in the next window

ETH will get the blame and rightly so because after spending about half a billion his team still look like a bunch of headless chicken on the field.

But to me, the DOF need to hold more responsibility. What is our long term style of play? Long term football strategy? Tactics? Blueprint to appoint manager? System to identify and sign players? Scouting?

We are going nowhere if we again sack the manager and then spend another half a billion to play shit football again.

The club really need to modernize the football structure and that start from DOF. Murtough was part of the unprecedented failure era when Ed was at helm. We need someone with proper track records.

All that is correct if you actually expect the DOF to be responsible for that. I doubt we expect that.

I reckon that after several failures in appointing managers, we figured out we need a DOF to get the right manager or board, and the rest is not as improtant.

Murtough is a nobody given the job title of ‘Football Director’ just for appeasement and PR. Nothing has really changed and the recruitment is just as bad as ever. Arnold said you could t see the billion Woodward spent on the pitch, he’s now over a third of the way there and you can’t see it on the pitch.

Wont be long before we start getting briefings on how none of the recruitment of the failings can be blamed on Arnold or Murtough as everyone starts to make sure they keep their jobs whilst manager gets held accountable.

Yep, I'm expecting Arnold, Murtough and the rest of the clown posse to throw ETH under the bus any time now.
