Murray again...

I await the idiots who say Murray is overated (who by, the English?!) with glee

Congratulations to the lad. Djokovic didn't take the Murray serve past 30

I didn't see the final, but I saw the semi against Nadal yesterday, and Djokovic was on it. Must have been a good performance to down a man in such form

This proves Murray is capable of winning a slam. The only question now is whether he will

He broke Murray in the second set, the rest of what you said is spot on though.

Tbf it doesnt matter how well you have done prior as long as you get hot in the right tournament, I could see Safin doing some damage at US Open as well

What a great game! The point on 5-4 in the second tiebreak....:eek::eek: fecking hell!

Apologies, I was reacting to a media report which gave that statistic. Did Murray immediately break back then?
Yes, I think Djokovic broke for 2-1 in the second and then again to take the game to 5-5 later on, Murray was the better player througout

Djokovic was nowhere near as good as he was against Nadal. He looked like he had been on a bender the night before. He kept missing easy shots throughout the whole match basically, didn't celebrate when he won important points, didn't move around between the points. He didn't even bounce the balls before his serve ffs as he usually does alot. I've never seen him like this before.

Agree that Djokovic wasn't at his best but alot of that could be down to Murray unsettling him.

He actually started the match well but Murray knocked him out of his stride and Novak never really had a period of dominance in the game when you would really expect Djokovic to have at least a period where he put Murray under alot of pressure.

I can't beleive all the negativity surrounding Murray here. He won his first Masters Series title at the age of 21. Not bad really. Considering Henman didn't win his first Masters until he was 28/29 shows you how good Murray is.

Also the period of dominance, i mean they said that 12 of the last 15 masters had been won by the top 3. It is such a difficult time to win these tournaments and it is a credit to Murray that he did it.

Classic Caffing. He wins one event(a Masters Series event, admittedly), and suddenly everyone who said they don't see him as genuine contender for slams/the No. 1 spot are idots.

You may well be right, he may be capable of winning a slam, but this doesn't prove it. It shows he is capable of winning this tournament. Aside from overhyping, this tournament is a biggie, but the slams are what really matter. You saw how upset Djokovic was upon getting knocked out of Wimbledon, he didn't exactly look heartbroken yesterday. That's not a coincidence.

Winning a slam is far, far different than winning these sorts of tournaments-not to take anything away from him, he is showing signs of real progress, but that's all it is. In a slam I would still expect the big three to do him over 5 sets, even at his best. He now has to build on that, and bridge the gap so that he is considered one of that elite group-and genuinely hope he does. But winning this event doesn't make him part of that group, nor does it mean that he has suddenly become a slam contender. A few more wins like this, and he may be the player people want him to be.

I do hope he wins tournaments/slams etc, but he still has a lot to prove.

Does today prove it :smirk:

Ok he hasn't won it yet, but how many other men have taken two sets off Nadal in a grand slam semi final recently?

The thing is, I understand the way people usually slag off young English talents as overhyped. They think us and the media get ahead of ourselves, and we do. Idiots always take it too far, and slag off people like Hamilton as overated, when they're coming into the sport and setting new benchmarks for rookie drives. But with Murray, he's Scottish, and frankly most English people don't much care for him! Our media knocks him as often as it can, and he sets them up for it with his attitude and actions. But you could see in that first Wimbledon tournament, this lad had what it takes to go to the very top. Obviously not immediately, because that's extremely rare. Nadal has been obscene on clay, but initially on grass he looked like a lost sheep. Not any more. Now idiot prats who love to slag off young promosing talent are made, again, to look like the mugs that they are

He's not there just yet.. though IF he can beat Nadal, he has got a very good record against Federer..

Murray's less developed than the other 3 and has more margin to improve. We'll see his best tennis in 3-4 years time if he stays fit. I don't think he'll win the USopen this year. But he's already come very close and I hope he has proved to his doubters that he's a possible serious contender for the majors and the no. 1 position.

Murray's great, I really hope that he can close out this match, it would be a truly amazing victory. As for the final, who knows? I think the US Open are silly to have it today as well, they may as well just hand it to Federer if this match goes for five sets.

The final's on tomorrow.

Murray's a great player and he'd win more fans if he cut down his petulance.

Loved Murray's performance yesterday and i had great pleasure watching my mate squirm because he's always saying he's overrated.

Class performance yesterday from the grumpy young Scot. Hopefully he'll finish him off later.

Is their anybody still doubting the man? That was some of the most magical tennis you'll see against Nadal.

He has gone up in my eyes, still has to beat Federer who is a far better hard court player than Nadal

His prickly personality - a true scottish thistle if you like - makes it hard to cheer for him, but his tennis over the last 2 days was immense, slwoly converting me onto his side. I don`t mind who wins tomorrow one - Federer to prove he's not finished, or Murray to improve the profile of tennis in the UK.

Maybe he will fix it when he matures and maintains this level, if he can. People forget that 7-8 years ago Federer was breaking a racket every match and being an ass to the official.

You have to be a bit of a twat to be a singles player in my opinion. So Murray isn't the perfect english gentlemen. I mean Henman was no saint himself, he hit a ball girl with a ball and swore a few times too.

Murray said things that riled the English and they don't like the fact that Tennis being known in England as being upper class and posh is being crashed by a moody scottish brat.

Yeah personality will change opinions on him but when his tennis does the talking he makes alot of people look stupid.

I can't wait for the english headlines of super Murray british US champion or Dour scot loses final.

This personality thing is bizarre. I reckon England is the only country in the world where you get people basing their opinions of an athlete based on how well mannered he is.

I remember some typical, middle England, bint being interviewed at Wimbledon and saying that she wanted Nadal to beat Murray because he was "such a nice boy" and because Murray had used bad language in his last match. I know he's not English but still, that's just bizarre.

Agreed. Happens in football as well. But tennis is an individual sport so everything a player does gets immediately magnified.

true enough that. was reading a few sports articles over the weekend and noticed how Murray is "the British number one" and Hamilton is "the Englishman".

He´s today british
On his next lose (for the most people) -> scottish

That's what I was saying to my Jock mates yesterday... British if he wins, Jock cnut if he loses.

I think he has an advantage because his teeth are the same colour as the ball. ;)

what is his current run like? 17-16 or summink including to 2 masters & a grand slam? that's the form of a no. 1..

He beat Federer again in Abu Dhabi. Playing Nadal in the final.
