So we've been linked with some great names over the last few years, the likes of Hazard, Moura and Sneijder all ending with disappointment while Van Persie turned into a dream come true and a true success story.

With a few players looking likely to leave (See the Curtains thread) and Fergie always looking to build on success, we've surely got a bit of cash to spend?

So point me in the direction. Who's going to be a bookmarked google news search for me this year?

Surely another winger, even with Zaha coming in.

A midfielder?

A striker to replace the converted Rooney?

I want names dammit, FM stats, price tags, I need to know who they are going to be the "next" version of.

Once I'll be bringing you the epic threads this year.

Garay, Strootman and Lewandowski are my picks.

Edit: Young midfielder too.

Chances are 90% of those mentioning Strootman have seen him play once or twice at most. I mean who the feck watches the Dutch league?

I have actually never heard of him until he got mentioned here.

Let's sign Verrati or Song.

Realistically, I can only see us signing a center midfielder, along with Zaha of course.

I do think Zaha will be Nani's replacement.

I think we'll sign two wingers, especially if Nani is gone.

There is no way we would go into next season with just Valencia, Young and Zaha.

Bale would be a complete muppets dream but this season the midfield is surely a priority (yawn, I know it's been said a million times)

Hamsik, Gundogan, Modric, Verrati or even Fellaini or Strootman just some quality in the middle of the field, id take any of those and be more than happy.

There's been some top class youngsters sold in the past year for around £30m (Hazard, Lucas, Goetze) if Bale isn't available it would be nice to try and find something similar to those type of players.

A lot is based on who leaves.. IF Nani, Ando, Rooney, all the people who might leave, do leave, then we surely can go full muppet? Although I can't see SAF letting too much go from a squad that won the league without ever really going top gear...

He's been near anonymous in the 7 or 8 games I've seen of him this year. I've been much more impressed with Maher, Fischer and Eriksen.

I hope we're looking at Eriksen. He may not be playing directly as a CM at the moment but he's a phenomenally intelligent player and both mentally and physically he looks to have the ability to adjust to the CM role. I love watching him play, he really is one of the classiest young players around at the moment.

We need another versatile two-footed winger if we're going to be selling Nani, and Zaha has the potential to fill that role but he's not going to suffice at the moment. They don't need to have the ability to smash them in from 30 yards like Nani does, but a player similar to Kagawa (but on the right) would be brilliant. The only risk with that is that they end up taking up the same place on the pitch (similar to Sigurddson, Dempsey and Bale at Spurs).

I think we need a flair player. Maybe Zaha will be that signing, but I really think we need another either central or wide who can carry the ball past a player or two. It's actually a bit embarrassing how much we are lacking in that department.

Having a player who can do just that gives much more of a headache to the opposition as it makes the decision of whether to track runners or close down the player a lot harder.

If Barca do get Neymar, I'd still love us to sign Sanchez from them. I know he hasn't been in the best of form, but he's that tricky, explosive winger that would perfectly compensate for the sale of Nani.

Time to blow the bank for Bale. Maybe it's wishful thinking but I can honestly see a huge transfer saga over Bale this summer, and we'll be part of it. I've wanted a 'big' signing since Ronaldo's departure but Bale is the first player since then where I've really thought that this guy is worth going full on turbo muppet for. He'll cost 50m and it'll seem a bargain in a couple years.

I got to say a lot of the names that are being touted for CMs don't exactly get my pulse racing. I'd be content with a destroyer who is comfortable on the ball that will come in and play a squad rotation role.

I really don't see the need for a striker. We already have Hernandez who deserves to play more regularly, and we have various players for the AM/SS position.

Double edged sword you are dealing with. (inconsistency et al)

Obviously we need a solid midfielder brought in. Who that is, I'm not sure.

But then I'd like to see one or two of the following arriving:

Isco, Draxler, Verratti & Thiago. 2 Exciting wingers and 2 midfielders capable of magic.

Thiago :drool: No way we can get him but he would be a dream.

This thread has a distinct lack of Ronaldo so far.

I'd play Eriksen (he's got the ability and movement to do it) alongside Carrick or if we go for a midfield 3 Carrick, Eriksen and Cleverley.

I think people are right in thinking we need a deputy and heir to Carrick though.

--------RVP
Bale---Kagawa---Nani
----Carrick-Rooney

Based on what i have read this season:

Defenders - None needed. (Garay and plenty of youngsters linked)

Midfielders - Strootman, Matic. (Wanyama linked, other well known players seem unrealistic)

Strikers - Lewandowski

Marquee:

Perez has said they will be offering Ronaldo a contract soon. We will see where his unhappiness stems from. Unless our commercial deals has suddenly given us an actual war chest, Bale blows the budget.

I can't quite understand people saying Wilshere, Thiago, Eriksen etc would be perfect. Based off the fact that it's extremely unlikely we would change to a midfield three and are already struggling to fit Kagawa in. I don't see how putting those players next to Carrick makes us better defensively considering the work Cleverley already puts in.
I have mostly watched Strootman for Holland and Matic recently in the europa league. Both are required cover for Carrick and an option we need in europe. I would prefer the bulk of creativity and goals to come from in front of the midfield two.

If we sign a striker, it is almost certain to be Lewandowski. Last year of his contract, he would cost similar to Kagawa i guess. Maybe more but still under 20m euros.

We'll do big business this summer. Reminds me of 2006/2007 when we spent big on Hargreaves/Andersen and Nani after reclaiming the title from Chelsea.

As much as i'd love to see Bale at United, I don't think we could match the insane offers that will come in for him. We should certainly attempt to sign him and pull a Barca. Strootman is available this summer, Lars Bender at Leverkusen is a decent alternative. Rodríguez seems to be another name we've been monitoring, if we're signing a winger it'll most likely be him.

That brings us to the Rooney situation. Last night his average position in the match was bang on the halfway line. He was playing the CM role with Carrick dropping deeper into the sweeper role. If we look back at the Stoke game, we had 2 wingers tucking in, while the fullbacks provided the actual width. Then we played 2 upfront with Rooney in CM/AM and Carrick as the sweeper. So its making me wonder what with the rumours of Lewandowski and Falcao that Rooney will be pushed into a new role of CM/AM. Which then opens the door for a new Striker to join the club which would be our main signing of the summer.

So, Strootman, Rodriguez and Lewandowski would make me very happy. But you can't quite help wonder how good this could be:

-----------Carrick-----------
-----------Rooney-----------
---Kagawa-----------Bale---
----Lewandowski----RVP----

But to afford Bale, Lewandowski and Strootman would cost us almost 100m I imagine. Anderson and Nani sales could give us 30m I suppose. So anythings possible! Just highly implausible.

He seems to be leaving.

Yup needs to be replaced in there with Ronaldo. I reckon we'll also start to introduce Januzaj and Powell coming through. If Anderson leaves then Alcantara may be a possibility.
