The only stories ahead of it on BBC News are a Taliban chief apparently being killed and Austria maybe about to vote in a far right president!

After that there's no bigger news in the world than Mourinho to United apparently

Match made in heaven  Or in hell for our rivals

It's actually the first headline on TV.

It has been made formal months ago and it sits in some lawyer's vault.

We have been waiting for the announcement only, nothing else.

We are talking about a contract for many millions. You don't play with that kind of money. There is no "understanding" and no "gentlemen's agreements". They sign and seal it. And they don't wait for months. They have lawyers that can do it in hours.
He will have signed Memorandum of understanding. Not an actual contract. That needs formal announcement.

That is some brilliant analogy

Fergie as Palpatine
Moyes as Jar Jar
LVG as Jabba
Mourinho as Vader
Twigginater as luke who is having a big traumatic experience

All spot on

As a star wars fan I thank you for this, just brilliant :D
The thing falls apart a bit when you realise this means Mourinho will kill Fergie to save fecking Twigginater of all people.

I don't get why everyone is taken it as a fact that mourinho is joining and lvg has gone - there are no official quotes yet are there??

Mourinho would not have been first my choice. However, I'm just glad LvG has gone.
Mine neither, it was ancelotti first and Mourinho a close second, but in reality the torture we have gone through with LVG, makes this news much sweeter. I just hope 3 years from now, we would say "remember when some fans did not want mourinho, fecking idiots". The news certainly has brought so much possitivity and i look forward to next season already, when i was dreading the weekend every week.

I don't know mate. It's not like every newspaper in England is reporting it as a fact including BBC who don't participate in rumor mongering.

It being on the BBC News, not sport, the main news site as a top story is as good as official.

It's really only a case of when not if now. Let's face it, would Ed dare not do it after this tsunami of reports?

If this is true, it's really worrying that other fans seem so suddenly concerned that we've made a terrible appointment in Mourinho. It's not like there's any other reason they wouldn't want to see him here.......

Although, that bald gimp Castles is close with Mourinho right? He's saying it's not done :(

If his camp leaking this news today is true,

Jose taking all the spotlight onto himself is nothing new. Well that is something we need to get used to it. You just hope he didn't go too far to get it wrong horribly like last season.

He's just trolling the United fans, he really does hate us.

There are no guarantees with any managerial appointment. Many are predicting that Pep may well struggle at City as he's not used to working in such a competitive league with such a high number of games.

Exactly.

I think he is trying to portray that the leak wasnt from them. He is also telling the truth as the contract hasnt been signed. As reported, minor details are pending. BBC news reporting it is as good as done. Even the sky sources who have fallen from their grace have reported it.

Whoever was briefing the press yesterday an hour or so if the final whistle while the players and manager were celebrating is a classless prick. I'd like to believe it wasn't Mourinho's people...

It was probably Mendes but Mourinho looked pretty pissed when they were talking to him after the boxing in fairness.

The most baffling thing to me is that the rumours were pretty floating around for months now and they came from some reliable sources. Yesterday, more rumours were added, they intensified and people go apeshit because it's just after we've won the cup. They've been there before we won it too, you know.

From the Telegraph article: "He has been given the assurances that he believes he needs to compete next season, in particular that he will be given the necessary resources and stability to take on Pep Guardiola across town at Manchester City."

That's what we need to hear!

Nope. No formal agreement could have been made without announcing it publicly to the shareholders.
Mourinho would be mid ranking company official albeit one highly paid so his hiring doesn't need shareholder approval like it would with a CEO. Of course we do have an obligation of warning investors of a potential material change that is bound to affect the share price but we can agree something with anyone just as long as we announce it before its effective start date.

Can you please provide the link too?

On the basis of "buy on the rumour, sell on the news" any change in share price will probably have taken effect well before the official announcement.

I think United know that they had to do something to stop the slide into being a team that simply challenges for a top 4 spot and looks to the FA Cup to bring a bit of cheer to an otherwise disappointing season.

There's not point in blaming the club, Mendes, Mourinho. There are so many people from both sides in negotiations anyone could have let the secret out. Hands for the deal will have been shaken when BBC, and others first broke the news soon after he was sacked at Chelsea. LvG must have known many Months ago his time was up having been given assurances of his job until the end of season. This is the reason he was so confident he would not be sacked in January when questioned by journalists.

Even Lou Macari knew there will be news after the game having confirmed this to my son. Anyway, The club keeping quiet, extending season ticket renewal deadline were all indicators. Tickets sales have been slow for the season ahead. This news will now give a massive boost to sales.

That seems to be a pretty believable summary of the situation.

My own friend in the media told me back when the rumours first started that Jose would be coming.

Not sure I believed him at first though, I sometimes think he tells me stuff just to keep me quiet

The meltdown from rival fans is great to see  Mou is getting then riled up and he hasn't even been announced yet

If John Terry ever comes to our club, I'll turn against Mourinho instantly.

Van Gaal's behaviour seems strange for someone who knew the writing was on the wall. I always assumed he knew what was coming. But you'd have thought he'd go quietly, even if he was pissed off about the timing, rather than giving every impression he wants to stay and will kick up a fuss.
