Mourinho thinks he can bring the best out of Falcao

Depends, perhaps Falcao just needs a hug? If you're one of Joses' favourites then you'll get treated like a king, Falcao might thrive in those conditions. We haven't seen a confident Falcao in the PL yet.
I dunno, a player low on confidence should still be able to control a football, which he couldn't.

True, I just find it hard to believe that he can go from awesome Falcao to rubbish Falcao from one injury. So either he was over hyped or he simply under performed at United, probably a bit of both.

I think it was a selection of things: His injury, the pace of the Premier League, the manager not having complete faith in him and the fact he had never played for an elite club before.

Which makes you wonder how many of those Jose can fix? Injury and Pace no chance. Other two possibly.

To be fair, Rooney goes through similar stages. In that 2010 World Cup he couldn't pass or control a ball, and that's when he was in his prime. Many said he would never recapture his form. Mind you, he was a lot younger than Falcao.

Bullshit

He lead the line perfectly for Atlético and Porto.

When he is at his best he is one of the best and most complete forwards in the game.

Some people act like that beast from Atlético can't exist anymore or never existed in the first place. If he becomes even half the player again he was before his move to Monaco he'll be one of the best striker in the PL and if he becomes 100% that player again he'll be one of the best in the world.

Obviously I got to hope it doesn't happen, but if it does happen a lot of people on here are going to be eating their words !

Its not bullshit, its been something that has been spoken about Falcao since his rise to fame.

He is not great with his back to goal, and this is something we have been speaking about on this very forum for the past 4 years.

Thought that was a RAWK-esque full name title for a second there.

Falcao's issue is more psychological than anything else, and apart from Fergie, there's probably no better manager to instill a sense of belief in players than Mourinho. So yes, he can.

He may improve, but I find it hard to believe he can hit the heights he once did, he just doesn't look to be the same player IMO.
It was almost the same situation with Torres, but with Diego Costa around, Falcao's minutes would be limited anyways.

Can't imagine he'd say this without the deal being as good as done. It's a risk worth taking if it's just a loan. We have nothing at all to lose, really.

He'll have plenty of great service. If he can't score with Hazard and Cesc feeding him then he's done at this level.

Always rated him, never a bad word to say about this fellow, such a nice and likable guy. World class number 9, cant believe we're signing Radamel fecking Falcao!!

He's not the same player after his injury but lets see how he does in the Copa America. Ill be pissed if he does well and Chelsea sign him. But even if they sign him how is the Costa-Falco combo going to work. Costa was his side kick at Atletico doing all the dirty work. He's graduated from that since and it would be a shame to ask him to play that role again.

It's going to hurt if he ends up scoring against us and gets back to his best. Really likeable guy, despite him only being here for a season.

I hope Falcao rediscovers his form but it wont be Jose's doing it will be him having a year of experience in this league and then a full pre season added to less pressure playing at a smaller club (or be it one with a better team right now). The fact of the matter is had we chosen to keep him I'm sure he would've jumped at the chance regardless of Chelsea interest, he was genuinely chuffed at being at OT and loved the fans. Just a shame he was unfit, rusty, trying to hard and complete turd in that order.

At his best he can act as good target man upfront, his ball control could be better but it never was bad, he has got pace, he has work rate, he is strong, he can score with both feet and his head and he banged in goals for fun year in year out on European top level.

How much more complete would you want a forward to be ?

If one talks about an incomplete forward I'am thinking of somebody like Hernandez who has got a lot of great qualities as a forward but severly lacks a few major important ones aswell. Falcao as the tigre from Atlético that banged in 40 goals in a season and was only bested by Ronaldo and Messi does not spring to mind as an incomplete player quite the contrary !

Would be best situation I agree but I don't really care if it is in the Premier League, it is up to the club to buy players to make us compete with Chelsea for the league regardless of him rediscovering his form or being gash again. Chelsea as it stands are better than us and that's my main concern.

Yeah like he turned Torres into a world class striker again.

In fairness, Torres hadn't been good in years.
This. Torres had been shit for years. Falcao is coming off of a single poor season on the back of a terrible injury.

Well the PR machine seems to be running. Not sure whether this is José doing a favour to Mendes, and how real/accurate those quotes are. It's suspicious that he's quoted as 'following Falcao since Athletico', since you'd expect Mourinho to have followed Falcao ever since Porto, given his time working there.

With regards to having recovered from his injury, strangely enough I remember Falcao looking better for us at the start of the season. The second half of the season was a real dire time for all of our strikers. Not sure if he's lost a yard of pace ever since his injury, looks like he has. However, I don't think Van Gaal would've used him 26 times if he hadn't been fit. He's very obsessed with that and obviously we have a medical team who watched the situation closely.

From what I remember, a pre-injury Falcao had a piss poor touch too quite often so it's not weird he struggled in that department. He didn't strike me as a player who has lost his instincts in the box, most recently I think it was against Chelsea when he turned away nicely and hit the outside of the post. He plays like he's 34 years old instead of 29 though. But the defenders in England are very strong physically, maybe he just needed to adapt.

All in all not a bad 2nd choice for Chelsea. Drogba is retiring and Diego Costa's injuries and him scoring 0 goals in the Champions League have cost them this season, so they could do with some more quality up front thrown in the mix.

...admitting that he can bring the Colombian striker back to his best.

The verb to admit has been over-used in football for a while now, but I think it just jumped the shark.

Do football writers even know what it means anymore, or do they just think it means "saying" or "claiming"?:wenger:

Its going to go round in circles, you have your view, I share the view of Tim Vickery.

Facing goal, feeding off service into the box, great.
Outside the box, back to goal, linking play, creating his own chances, not very good.

Thats what a complete forward does btw, all of that.

Its not just about numbers, its about utility.

You hope that a player goes to Chelsea and scores close to 30 goals in the league? That's a weird thing to hope unless you're his family or a Chelsea fan.

Ye, i dont get the whole 'it would be nice to see Falcao back at his best at Chelsea'. Blows my mind. Hope he fails aka Torres, Shev

He'll score 4 goals whole season, Mourinho will declare how highly his defensive work has been and how well he fits into his system, most Chelsea fans upon hearing that will be brainwashed again and from that point on when discussing Falcao goals won't count but rather how many tackles and interceptions he has had which really make him such a valuable asset.

I genuinely hope he goes to Chelsea. He's past his best, that injury has ruined him. He can't cope with the pace of the premier league either, IMO.

He was just so awful though. Next level awful. There were games where he looked like he'd won a competition and the prize was to play for Man Utd for a season. Especially in that game at Preston.

I hope Chelsea waste their money and time on him.
