Mourinho extends contract to 2020 (option for a further year as standard)

Stability at last. Looking forward to him breaking Pep again.

I have no problem with the fact he is staying in a hotel as opposed to a home in Cheshire or even a city centre apartment ala Pep.

It was just a light hearted comment mate. I think we will be able to move on.

Fair play buddy! :) I just don't get why it's even mentioned anymore, considering no other manager's living or travel circumstances are even brought up. Still.

Great news.

The club needs the stability of a top manager for an extended period. And I think Jose knows he's going to have a great side in a couple of years and he won't want to hand that over to someone else.

Good news. Should out doubts to bed to some degree and I'm happy with the job he's done so far. Not committed to anything top long. No complaints from me.

I'm hoping this helps in getting the likes of DDG sign a new deal now.

He is also the first manager post-Ferguson to have extended his contract. Stability.

Brilliant news. I love you Jose!.

Right man for the right job, I wouldn't swap him for anyone. Seems happy here, lets just hope his usual meltdown as seen at Chelsea happens in the 3rd season. I personally don't see that happening though, the players look very happy. Plus it's great that he has the complete backing of the Board. Need a new player Jose? Pick the most expensive one if you want :)

I can't help but be disappointed. We'd have nearly been five years into Moyes six year plan by now, better times :(

Serious question what will Jose do after 2020 because I can't see him staying longer than that? He will 56/57 by the time the contract ends and that's still a very young age for a manager. He's a long way away from retirement so where will he go? PSG, Portugal national team, or somewhere else?

Depends on how it goes, I would say. If he is successful he'll obviously stay for as long as he wants to - the dream would be that he's keen on emulating Ferguson.

I'm not sure how to feel about this.

I'm not one of those #MourinhoOut crazies, and it's obvious he's the best manager we've had since Ferguson.

Sure, he'll get us results and win trophies - but at the risk of sounding like a right top.red, that's not why I support United. What got me into the club was the magic of our attacking football, something we don't always see under Jose and the oft-defensive style of approaching big games is tangibly different to what I'd hope to see a United team play like.

Still though, I think we need the stability right now and it's good the rumours of him leaving for PSG have well and truly been laid to rest.

I get what you are saying, but I do think that Mourinho can get his team to play attractive football with the right players. I thought Real Madrid played some amazing football at times. You just won't see Mourinho play a kamikaze type of football like Liverpool plays. It will always be a balanced type of attacking football, and it does seem to be the most effective one because he has won countless amounts of trophies. His type of football is not far from the type SAF played. We have plenty of young players with pace like SAF we just need some experience around them

“We have set very high standards - winning three trophies in one season - but those are the standards I expect my teams to aim for."
I hope we're not aiming for sixth place and the "we beat Leicester City in August" trophy again. We're making progress this season but let's not view last season as any sort of standard.

What? You're basing last seasons success on a game we played in August and finishing 6th? No one said anything about finishing 6th as being a standard, in fact, he explicitly says "winning three trophies" was the standard so I don't know why you've even brought it up.

If you'd have been offered three (minor) trophies and Champions League football, whatever the league finish, last season, you'd have bitten someone's hand off.

Bet he's a really nice guy to hang with.
My dad sat next to him in the directors box when we beat Arsenal last month. He said he was a really nice bloke and knew everything about United. Made my dads day when he grabbed his arm celebrating as the whole directors box was full of Arsenal fans obviously

Can I hang with your dad? Please?!

I think he mean to say "we must get min three trophies each season" that will be amazing..

Look, my point is, we finished sixth, we won the fecking League Cup and unconvincingly snuck past giants like Anderlecht and Celta Vigo, playing shite and, against Celta, hanging on for dear life at Old Trafford.

Yeah, in the end, we got into the Champions League so the season wasn't a complete failure. But that's about it. It's not "incredibly high standards". It was a season where we just about managed to meet minimum expectations. If our 2016/17 was about setting high standards, then Arsenal had a very good 2017, winning two trophies!

Excellent news and a big feck you to the haters

Good move. Means his contract won't become a distraction over the next 18 months, but we're not tying ourselves up too long if it ends up going wrong.
