We have lot of positions & roles need to be fixed, not every single one of them can be solved in one window. And I just told you given the current situation, the club has no other choice to do so and the decision is not just some silly things to do since this allows us to give opportunity to someone like McTominay & Fred for at least another year.
There is a reason why a fit Matic is first choice despite being slow and all - no other player in the squad brings to the team what he does - defensive positioning and reasonable technical skills on the ball. Fred and Scot are all high energy but lack Matic's technical and tactical application so it's in the team's best interest to move on one of the two and bring in someone who can adequately replace Matic.
Postponing the decision to next summer could hurt us because, like you yourself said, Matic is not aggressive and fast enough across the ground which could be a factor in the big games where you still need Pogba's playmaking from deep and a true DM to help recover the ball effectively. To me selling Fred to buy Declan Rice is a no brainer.
Clear the deadwood and get four solid signings - and we'd be good to go for a solid season in my opinion.

There not DM’s though. They are 8’s and should be playing instead of Bruno and Pogba not Matic. If anything you could sacrifice the Grealish money for Rice as I think Rice is more important. But Grealish is a done deal. So like I said maybe sell one of the midfielder‘s

You are making this sounds like a football manager game where we can just sell players and sign a new toys with the same fees. That's not how it works.
There is also a reason why Matic was dropped in the Spurs game for McTominay since the restart. Matic was suitable when used against the lesser team since we are likely to dominate the game which is why he was picked from the Sheffield to Aston Villa games. As soon as we played against Southampton who applied a high intense press game, Matic was struggling in that game when playing next to Pogba. The manager isn't just going to drop the player after performing well and the remaining games were left
Both Fred & Scott have been playing very well in this double pivot for the whole first half of the season, there will be plenty of games to give them chances to perform. Whether they will perform as the manager's expectation or no is another story but end of the day the decision is made because we don't have the money to fix everything in one window. It's not just about buying and selling, it's also about coaching.

If it was that easy & quick to solve, last season Ole wouldn't say that it needs 3-4 year to fix the problems to go back to where we are supposed to be. Klopp needs 3 years before he can win CL & challenging the league.
That's what they said about Fletcher back then. Keane was also an 8 not a DM but he was converted to be a DM. Nothing wrong for the manager's choice to give them chances & coach them. Selling one, buying one, remind me of football manager. If it was that easy.

Whilst I agree with your sentiment there are good players available for reasonable fees.
We could feasibly bring in 3/4 players of the requisite quality. However we shouldn’t just sign bodies.
We didn’t have Pogba and Bruno. We had Scholes and Carrick. It’s all relative to what you have. If we had a deep line playmaker Fred and McTomminay would be great. They could offer what they offer without having to be trusted to start attacks from defence.
100m-150m as a budget. Never mind trying to sign players, we are probably struggling to sell lot of players as per usual.

Assuming that is the budget subject to sales we could still feasibly make significant improvements in 3/4 positions.
Even if you take Sancho at the higher £90m price we have £60m to play with without any sales.
We’ll shift Smalling no problem, Sanchez will leave (even no fee frees up a lot of wages) and Rojo seems destined to leave too.
We also have other players who will have suitors Lingard, Periera, Dalot and Mata who could generate £40m plus between them.
I personally think we’ll focus on 2/3 signings I think any more would be optimistic but it’s not really a case of being unable to sign more players more the suitability of said options.
Fletcher was able to be converted as DM to play with Scholes/Anderson much more roam role in 09/10 as pair of two in some of our games.
It's not just about buying new toys and chucks the rubbish one. You want Rice, the guy has 50m transfer value, West Ham is going to sell him way higher than his transfer value now that they stayed up in PL. If we put Fred in transfer list, other clubs are smart enough to know that we are desperate to sell him so we can increase our budget, they are going to put small bid knowing the situation and at the end not going to be enough to to increase the budget as what you wanted.
That gives to my original point that we can only afford 2 or 3 signings which is why we can't solve everything and we offered Matic a new contract. I'm not sure what's your issue on my argument here.
Because of all of the incredibly expensive deadwood issues that need resolved, I fear this transfer window will be very frustrating.

It’s not a new toy type of conversation. I’m requesting for a player we currently don’t have in our squad. If we need to raise funds then maybe they should do it.
Maybe we don’t put Fred on the transfer list and just let it be know we might be interesting in selling should a good offer come along and maybe let Fred know so he can tell his agent. I think that’s how it normally works as I’ve never seen a good player just ‘transfer listed’. But hey i haven’t played Football Manager in decades.
150m realistically gets us Sancho and one other, maybe Grealish if Villa accept that, maybe more likely though another CB but it's one window at a time just as we couldn't do everything last summer we won't be able to do everything this one either
Yeah mate, they aren't dumb. You are in your own fantasy world. I have just given you a logic & reasonable case of Fred & Rice, and you came out with that. If it was that easy to sell players, we won't be struggling in selling players with good price in the past.

I don’t have an issue per say but I do believe we could make more significant movements in the market and whilst we may have needed 9 players at the start of Ole’s tenure (not all of whom would have been starters) we’ve signed 3 who are certainly of the quality needed and James who has been ok for a first season.
We look set to add another 2/3 next window minimum.
It’s not however without possibility to fix our big issues in the next window nor is it silly to try and bring in a DM despite Matic’s contract. I guess it depends on what you think would set us up for a title challenge.
Personally I think we are 3/4 players away and our most recent form would put us as title challengers.
Fred is on 120k.
You are forgetting the 100m covid deficit they didn't bank on a year ago tbf.
We will still be active in the market but I do wish people would start being realistic. There are major clubs in Europe talking like they won't spend over 50m and people think we will be chucking 200m around. Its unlikely.
I also said the same thing we could still make significant improvement with 2-3 players.
Some people in here are expecting 4 players minimum, don't understand the decision why the club needs to extend a certain player's contract, want to be unrealistic and expect us to sell Fred to increase the budget and buy Rice. If it was that easy.
I think we desperately need Sancho, a Fernandes backup (grealish?) and a DM that can rotate with Matic. Ideally someone who is press resistant would be an absolute god send for us. A goalkeeper is also a must after De Geas shitshow this season. Maybe a fullback aswell to cover Shaw or AWB? That’s 6 players which I really don’t think we’ll get. Probably 3 of them at most.

Oh definitely we can make a real improvement in attacking depth this window which is probably the biggest issue in my eyes.
I think anyone expecting 4 minimum is being a tad optimistic but it is possible.
We absolutely shouldn’t be trying to sell Fred for once we have good CM options you’d don’t weaken that to bring in a DM.
We’ve got Mejbri coming through so by the time Fred hits 29 we’ll have a potentially better young player making a step up.
If we recoup close to 50m for all them players, that's 150m on top. Not having bs excuses now with CL and Adidas money guaranteed. Everyone is spending and we are over 30 points behind our biggest rivals.
Given that we have Pogba and Bruno, I dont get the push for Grealish. Surely a holding midfielder and maybe a weaker attacking midfielder to come off the bench is all we need there. Grealish is too attacking for the first and too good for the second.

I think we just offer £100m for sancho. With players of his age who are going to boss it for a decade or more, its actually a peanuts fee. If we cant get him look elsewhere. I think we could upgrade at lb/cb/dm too. Lindelof and shaw are good players, but if we bring in better we can have good bench and squad options. In a way, you can build your squad by signing players that put the weaker first 11 ones on the bench.

Every summer window post SAF has been of vital importance where we have failed miserably overall. We've had two good windows in that period. When we signed Pogba and Zlatan - more than anything it elevated the spirit of the team. And last summer. In both cases more should have been done and we still carry around the deadwood.
