What's wrong in solving most of your problems in one window?
Do we have arab money to solve it?
What's wrong in solving most of your problems in one window?
Did I say that in that context? Maybe you should read my post again. I think your carrying feelings from my other posts into this. I said in this post by giving Matic a contract we pretty much have decided this position can be left unsolved for this window. Why is this? We’ll just from previous and when you look a renewals like Mata and Periera. I then pointed out that this is an important position and should be fixed ASAP.
This was all in the support of getting Declan Rice. All the other jargon your mentioning about what the club are doing bedhind the scenes and how things take time are irrelevant. What we need is a new DM.
There is a reason why a fit Matic is first choice despite being slow and all - no other player in the squad brings to the team what he does - defensive positioning and reasonable technical skills on the ball. Fred and Scot are all high energy but lack Matic's technical and tactical application so it's in the team's best interest to move on one of the two and bring in someone who can adequately replace Matic. This summer window to the next summer transfer window is also considered as space of 12 months. You also need to remember that Liverpool were targeting VVD in the summer not in January, they couldn't meet the agreement in the summer but the reality was VVD was their main target in the summer 2017.
Being honest myself, even Matic isn't the right man. This is just my personal opinion because I think United needs more pacey & aggressive DM than a slow one to recover the loss ball and help the slow defense. Someone like Gueye, Kante, Kimmich, Casemiro or may be gamble/punt signing like Marcos Llorente & Herrera would be more suitable to play with Bruno & Pogba.
However, like what I said before, the manager is taking this action because of this covid 19 situation anyway, this also allows Ole to give players like McTominay & Fred chances next season for the role which is perfect time since both of them had done very well before the restart and deserve their chance. This is Manchester United is about giving them chance especially the young players from academy after all.
We have lot of positions & roles need to be fixed, not every single one of them can be solved in one window. And I just told you given the current situation, the club has no other choice to do so and the decision is not just some silly things to do since this allows us to give opportunity to someone like McTominay & Fred for at least another year.

Since whenThere not DM’s though. They are 8’s and should be playing instead of Bruno and Pogba not Matic. If anything you could sacrifice the Grealish money for Rice as I think Rice is more important. But Grealish is a done deal. So like I said maybe sell one of the midfielder‘s

Postponing the decision to next summer could hurt us because, like you yourself said, Matic is not aggressive and fast enough across the ground which could be a factor in the big games where you still need Pogba's playmaking from deep and a true DM to help recover the ball effectively. To me selling Fred to buy Declan Rice is a no brainer.

Whilst I agree with your sentiment there are good players available for reasonable fees.If it was that easy & quick to solve, last season Ole wouldn't say that it needs 3-4 year to fix the problems to go back to where we are supposed to be. Klopp needs 3 years before he can win CL & challenging the league.
That's what they said about Fletcher back then. Keane was also an 8 not a DM but he was converted to be a DM.

We could feasibly bring in 3/4 players of the requisite quality. However we shouldn’t just sign bodies.
Assuming that is the budget subject to sales we could still feasibly make significant improvements in 3/4 positions.100m-150m as a budget. Never mind trying to sign players, we are probably struggling to sell lot of players as per usual.
We didn’t have Pogba and Bruno. We had Scholes and Carrick. It’s all relative to what you have. If we had a deep line playmaker Fred and McTomminay would be great. They could offer what they offer without having to be trusted to start attacks from defence.
Assuming that is the budget subject to sales we could still feasibly make significant improvements in 3/4 positions.
Even if you take Sancho at the higher £90m price we have £60m to play with without any sales.
We’ll shift Smalling no problem, Sanchez will leave (even no fee frees up a lot of wages) and Rojo seems destined to leave too.
We also have other players who will have suitors Lingard, Periera, Dalot and Mata who could generate £40m plus between them.
I personally think we’ll focus on 2/3 signings I think any more would be optimistic but it’s not really a case of being unable to sign more players more the suitability of said options.
Fletcher was able to be converted as DM to play with Scholes/Anderson much more roam role in 09/10 as pair of two in some of our games.
It's not just about buying new toys and chucks the rubbish one. You want Rice, the guy has 50m transfer value, West Ham is going to sell him way higher than his transfer value now that they stayed up in PL. If we put Fred in transfer list, other clubs are smart enough to know that we are desperate to sell him so we can increase our budget, they are going to put small bid knowing the situation and at the end not going to be enough to to increase the budget as what you wanted.
I don’t know what Scholes you was watching. Must have been that 2000 Paul Scholes.
It’s not a new toy type of conversation. I’m requesting for a player we currently don’t have in our squad. If we need to raise funds then maybe they should do it.
Maybe we don’t put Fred on the transfer list and just let it be know we might be interesting in selling should a good offer come along and maybe let Fred know so he can tell his agent. I think that’s how it normally works as I’ve never seen a good player just ‘transfer listed’. But hey i haven’t played Football Manager in decades.
Yeah mate, they aren't dumb. You are in your own fantasy world. I have just given you a logic & reasonable case of Fred & Rice, and you came out with that. If it was that easy to sell players, we won't be struggling in selling players with good price in the past.
I don’t have an issue per say but I do believe we could make more significant movements in the market and whilst we may have needed 9 players at the start of Ole’s tenure (not all of whom would have been starters) we’ve signed 3 who are certainly of the quality needed and James who has been ok for a first season. That gives to my original point that we can only afford 2 or 3 signings which is why we can't solve everything and we offered Matic a new contract. I'm not sure what's your issue on my argument here.
Nothing to do with our wages no?
If we clear wages on Rojo, Lingard, Jones, Sanchez and Smalling it should be huge. I expect 200m with all them players leaving, no low balling either. The adidas money and champions league money is there now, if the Glazers, Ed Woodward want to save money, buy this summer. I don't want to hear excuses from anyone.

We look set to add another 2/3 next window minimum.
It’s not however without possibility to fix our big issues in the next window nor is it silly to try and bring in a DM despite Matic’s contract. I guess it depends on what you think would set us up for a title challenge.
Personally I think we are 3/4 players away and our most recent form would put us as title challengers.
Oh definitely we can make a real improvement in attacking depth this window which is probably the biggest issue in my eyes.I also said the same thing we could still make significant improvement with 2-3 players.
Some people in here are expecting 4 players minimum, don't understand the decision why the club needs to extend a certain player's contract, want to be unrealistic and expect us to sell Fred to increase the budget and buy Rice. If it was that easy.
If we recoup close to 50m for all them players, that's 150m on top. Not having bs excuses now with CL and Adidas money guaranteed. Everyone is spending and we are over 30 points behind our biggest rivals. You are forgetting the 100m covid deficit they didn't bank on a year ago tbf.
We will still be active in the market but I do wish people would start being realistic. There are major clubs in Europe talking like they won't spend over 50m and people think we will be chucking 200m around. Its unlikely.
100% although someone of high quality who could play either full back would be the dream. Are you thinking of Grealish as the MF, or someone more “midfield”?
Tonali would never come.Sancho+Tonali+Grealish
