Remind me, is Mike Keegan in the loop?
Well it's a pretty specific statement to make, I don't think he would suggest a club official travelled there in the morning if it wasn't valid news. All very detailed rather than a general tweet.

No British journos are in the loop when it comes to United anymore.

I'd back the Southampton based journos like Simon Pearch and Alex Crook to break any Morgan news. When they start talking it will be cocks out time.

Going to be extremely happy when this transfer is done. Have had Schneiderlin in all of my ideal United lineups for nearly 3 years. Would have been even better if had tried to sign Gundogan to play the Fellaini position as well.

Bayern confirming talks about Bastian...

Looks like the theory about Morgan being our back up plan is proving too be true (:(). Explains why we've been dragging our feet.

I'll be very disappointed if we end up signing Schweinsteiger instead of him. Better player at his peak but much older and injury prone.

I'll be so pissed off if we get Schweinsteiger over Schneiderlin. Why not both!?
We don't need this many midfielders. We have Carrick, Fellaini, Blind and Herrera at the minute, we need one more. It's between Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin not both.

Not so sure about that. We will have 3 spots in midfield, 6 players doesn't seem overkill, especially since Blind and Fellaini seem the archetypical utility men and also strike me as players who know their level and won't cause too much fuss if they don't start.
Carrick and Schweini will probably be injured every now and then so they can cover for eachother, Blind will always be this utility man that can cover for both LB and CM, so he will get his games, Fellaini was never going to be our main man in midfield and can be useful when we need a plan B.

Herrera and Schneiderlin will be our main starting midfielders, with Fellaini and Blind as cover. Schweini and Carrick will work themselves out with their age/injuries. Looks perfect.

We probably will go for both. We'll have a lot of games this season, and our options so far are just Herrera, Carrick and Fellaini, with pereira as a youngster. Schneiderlin will be Carrick's replacement, Schweinsteiger will be the all round midfielder dropping Fellaini to the bench and Herrera as the advanced mid. 5 senior midfielders and 1 youngster (Blind as left back). Getting just 1 would still leave us a little bit light in terms of options IMO.

There's room for both, with LvG's favoured DM, B2B, AM midfield. Aside from Herrera, we don't have a real box to box midfielder. Schneiderlin can rotate as a #6 or a #8. Schweinstiger would probably only play as a #6, as would Carrick. Schneiderlin could play as an #8 and eventually be a #6 in the coming years, when Carrick is phased out and Schweinsteigers knees have turned to pudding. Getting both could be a good move for now and the future.

Blind will probably be more of a left back. But think of it like... we have 3 midfield spots. Herrera, Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger would be our main trio, and then Carrick will come in for Schneiderlin in occasion as the holding mid, and Fellaini/Pereira are the options of the bench for the 2 more advanced midfielders.

Blind can only be a holding midfielder really, and he's not good enough there to replace Carrick, so he doesn't come into the talk about the more advanced mids. Neither does Carrick. So we need a midfielder who can be the holding mid and one who can compete for the 2 more advanced positions, whether its a playmaker or a box to box player (i.e., Schweinsteiger).

I much doubt it I'm afraid. The Schneiderlin trial has gone cold

The simple truth is we do not play well with Blind in CM. I think he makes us far better from left back. And seriously for the prices talked about, why would we not want both Scheiderlin and Schweinsteiger? I see them both as an upgrade on Fellaini who still is incredibly valuable. We want to comp[ete on all fronts next year we need quality depth and an ability to alter our game from CL to EPL.

Apart from the reports yesterday saying we sent officials to Southampton to try and force the deal through... I'm sure we'll get it done, it's not like there was a huge difference in the valuations of the players. We have all summer and only sent in a starting bid which probably wasn't too far off. We'll almost definitely send in another.

I can't see this one being done before we go on tour. No fee has nor personal terms have been agreed and it's already Thursday. Before you know it, it'll be the weekend and rarely does any business get completed then. And then Monday, we jet off on tour Schneiderlinless.

Nah, Blind has been very good in midfield for us. It's huge revisionism to say otherwise and based purely on the final two months of season where he looked poor in midfield.

Apart from a few days ago when Koeman was saying he wants to go, wants it to conclude soon and talking about replacements etc.
Or you could judge this by tweet volume or something.

Okay first off I love Blind in the team clear :)? But we might just disagree which is fine.

Here is my thoughts and why I come to my conclusion. The only time we played well as a team was the six games starting with Spurs with Carrick as the anchor. That early part of the season Blind looked better only because the rest of United was so not on song. Once the rest of the squad figured out what LVG wanted... Blind was shown to be a big drop off from Carrick. Again you do not have to agree but those last two months you wave away, are in fact very telling to me.

Don't see any reason why we shouldn't pay their price, sign the player and move on. Disappointing it's not already done if what their manager said is true and that he has a price and we've been informed, the £30m? He's clearly what we need so badly.

I only hope that LvG is thinking about Schweinstieger and Schneiderlin. Somehow I doubt it.

We've no idea how far down the pecking order Schneiderlin is on LVG's list considering we were linked with Gundogan and Vidal in recent times too. For all we know, he possibly feels that Carrick, Bastian and Blind could get us through at least a season until someone else comes along a cut above Morgan.

There's nothing on Sky and BBC apart from Koeman saying we placed a bid 2 weeks ago

I guess you don't believe the report from yesterday from Mike Keegan that we sent a delegation down to start negotiations to wrap it up? Could be bullshit, but was backed up by the Southampton based journalists Alex Crook and Adam Blackmore so seems to have some sort of legs.

So what was the point in putting in a bid for him? It must have been known for some time that Gundogan and Vidal were out of reach and that Schneiderlin, based on his form last season, is one of the best midfielders in the PL and whose stats are superior to those of Carrick and Blind and comparable to Matic. Going for Schweinstiger smacks of a short term approach which might suit LvG who has two more seasons to do something but not necessarily beyond that given his age and recent fitness issues. My guess is that LvG was serious about Schneiderlin but when it became apparent that Schweinstieger might be available everything stalled. Great pity.

Be surprised if we don't get him now tbh. You get the impression from Koeman's recent quotes that there is definitely something happening behind the closed doors and a deal could happen within a few days.
