Until Pellistri I think it is a long time since we brought in a young player from South America and I wonder why we still have scouts there when it seems like the young talent tends to go elsewhere in Europe to make their name.
I understand there are language and cultural barriers in England compared to Spain and Portugal etc. but some of these players end up in Russia, Ukraine and a lot colder climes than the UK and then cost big money like Costa, Fred andI am sure there are a few others.
I totally disagree. There are some exceptions but when he says something will happen it usually does. I've found him to be literally the only useful journalist out there for speculation. In general they are so transparently lying. Romano seems to have some agent links and gets am agent's view on things.

He looks to be a cracking talent but there's no room for him right now. If we signed him he would go and sit in the u23s and probably regress until we found him an appropriate loan. Ole barely trusts Matic, Van De Beek or feckin world cup winner Pogba to play ahead of McTominay and Fred. What hope does a 19 year old have?

If Brighton turns out to be the only club does the deal, we should realize there must have enough reason many big clubs give it a pass.
I think when this story broke, it was reported that he wanted assurances over his play time. I can imagine if he doesn't come here it'll be largely because we couldn't guarantee him the time he was looking for.

Strange one. Everyone seems to think he's a huge talent, available on the cheap and we've somehow passed up on the chance to sign him. That too when we really need quality in midfield.
I think what's important to remember is that eventhough the player has stated that his dream is to play at United, he also said playing regularly at a stepping stone club is more important at this stage in his career. He's also stated that money isn't a factor in his decision. So it makes sense that he would possibly end up at Brighton which would suit the player and keep the door open to a potential move to United in the following seasons if he lives up to his potential.
Brighton would be as good a choice you can make as a stepping stone if he’s trying to get to United down the line. He gets to “prove himself” in the same league, settle in the same country, play in a team that doesn’t park the bus, and for a club that most likely won’t price him out of a future big move (as opposed to clubs like West Ham/Leicester/Villa/Everton).
If all his quotes we read throughout this saga are true (that he wants to get to United but only when he’s ready) then I wouldn’t rule out the possibility that we were in for him but he wanted to take a smaller step first. If that is the case then fair play to the lad, he’s got some balls.

If he signs for Brighton we can pick him up again easily and it’s a total win for us. If another big club snap him up on the cheap and he does well straight away we are going to look silly.
If we truly believe in his potential it makes much more sense to pay a small fee now and send on a loan or two till he further develops.
Being a fan these days doesn't mean a whole lot and there's a good chance of him going somewhere else later if he does live up the hype.

He didn't have a choice, in fairness, pretty much everyone is saying we didn't/aren't going to make an offer.
Play in the Prem vs play in u23s and probably get loaned to League One. Actually scratch that as we didn't even bid for him.
If he plays well for Brighton he will move anywhere he wants.
Maybe we couldn't get someone to take him on loan hence he's going elsewhere. But the player is quoted as saying he wants to gain experience before he ends up at United which is a sensible move on his part.
Yeah I wonder if that thought process has played a part in the decision he made, he can't fail to have seen that the players you mentioned are having difficulty getting ahead of Fred & McTominay in the midfield pecking order right now. Yeah feel sure we will go back for him if he proves himself in the Premier League over the next couple of seasons and don't think they would rip us off either.
