It's the nature of the job. You can choose to question, them, or believe them, it doesn't really matter until a transfer is official/not happening. Their job is to get information from people informed of what is going on and report that. Nobody's ever going to know everything about every transfer and always be reliable on every single transfer. Hells, the nature of their job means at times their sources will deliberately lie to them

I’ll just ask you to consider how little old Romano in Italy knows the inside of a cats arseh@le when it comes to transfers of teenagers in Ecuador...

He doesn’t. They can’t even figure out who the kids actual agent is. But of course whoever is the agent just dropped Romano a txt so he can keep his followers happy.

He’s lying about that transfer and many others which makes everything he says questionable. There’s a difference between having a bit of inside info and it turning out to be wrong, that’s fine, but he claims to know about EVERY transfer which is laughable.

i don't care. I know which transfers he's reliable for, everything else, i don't care about it. just wait and see, is that really that hard?

Here's a better approach than yours

Instead of getting upset when Romano tweets, look at the tweet and see if there is information in it. If there is no info as with caicedo transfer , ignore it. If there is information in it, take it on board.

Which implies you know he makes up a lot of his tweets, so you simply cannot know which tweets are reliable.

Unless the mere fact he’s Italian means he’s reliable in Italy. Like Custis is for the UK.

I don’t get upset with his tweets, what irks is the naive way posters take his word as gospel and litter the transfer pages off the back of his bullsh*t

People also allow themselves to get their hopes up massively off the back of his nonsense.

Your welcome to believe him, I place more factual reliability in the Harry Potter books.

I agree I’d lend more weight to his Italian related tweets, to an extent, but it’s not Italian football tweets that we’re dealing with here daily on the caf, it’s the rest of his nonsense.

It would be more believable if he only focussed on Italian moves but he doesn’t, far feckin from it.

Seems a sensible stance to me. There could have been major problems further down the line.

I always find reports like this weird. Think 90% of them are probably bull and just a way of the press back tracking a story to make it seem like they weren’t wrong or duped by agents. Just United changed their mind due to complications in negotiations.

If United wanted him and the fee requested isn’t insane then there aren’t going to be any complications.

Watch West Ham or someone now pull this off with relative ease.

I think the culture around representation is a lot more informal in other parts of the world, especially South America, and it doesn't translate well into the systems and expected way of doing things that many European leagues have. I think owning percentages of players is a big thing there. And let's be honest, agents in Europe can operate in very dubious ways at the best of times.

I also wonder if the fact it was Utd interested meant it quickly got out of hand? I'm sure we tried to keep it quiet, but someone obviously leaked the interest with such a famous club being involved.

I know Real Madrid have made big signings form South America in recent years, but they've mostly dealt with Brazilian clubs. Bigger League, bigger deal, likely more professional to deal with.

I was always dubious about our interest, don't think he would have got much game time initially. If the deal then became drawn out and convoluted then I don't think it's entirely ridiculous to believe we distanced ourselves and moved on to other targets.

How hard is it to contact his club and try and get in touch with the player directly.. and talk to any one agent he mentions.

I never understand how these things work.

The player was willing to hire anyone who could engineer a move to United.. great.. send Fergie's son over .

If West Ham are serious you’d see something concrete by now. Same with Brighton.

If problems exist with intermediaries then what makes you think any English club is getting involved

I’ll never understand how FIFA or UEFA allow players to have a percentage of them owned by one person and another percentage by another and so on, surely one player should only be allowed to be represented by one person or one company instead of 25% here and 15% there.

Goes back to Tevez and Maschaerano and I think Denilson too with them being part owned by other people and companies, I know it’s mainly a South American thing but it’s madness and should be outlawed immediately by the football governing bodies.

No, it's true. I've known of the various reps line for a few weeks now (the first time was a few days after the initial reports were coming out of Ecuador) so this report isn't something that is being made up after the fact as an excuse.

Because there probably isn’t any problems. Pretty much every South American kid has multiple owners As such. Smaller clubs let them move but keep a part ownership. Guys who help them get to clubs keep part ownerships. Sponsers keep part ownerships.

Its just a case of paying them off. That’s how it works. So like I said, if United want him and they deem the fee it’s going to take as affordable then no issue.

Personally I’ve always felt like if we even really showed intrest it was probably as a back up option to someone like Soumare or even a crack at Camavinga.

So the transfer fees end up to be much higher than the 5 million being mentioned.

And I m sure that as long as us being perceived as interested, astronomical fees are being requested.

Part ownership is a huge problem. You're not allowed to have 3rd party ownership in the Prem and no one in their right mind, would just ask for a fee for this kid yet as we have no idea what he could be. They'd want a percentage of next sale or something more complicated.

It's a reason someone like Dybala didn't move in the summer and he's an extremely talented player who's played at the highest level. I think you're over simplifying transfers.

Clearly not as big of a talent as people are making out then.

If even Brighton don't think he's good enough for them i'm not sure why we should be so upset.

When I read that I had the same reaction. Didn’t they just recall Tau from there? If he’s anywhere near the ‘real deal’ dropping down to a league that’s the equivalent of our LD2 doesn’t make sense. Why would he want to as well?

It just seems odd. He looks like a talent in the videos and obviously did well in the international match against Uruguay, but perhaps the pace is so much slower in those matches it's more about getting up to speed and living in Europe.

Surely he's better than the 2nd belgium league though if all these premier league clubs are chasing him

Sounds like PR spin... If it is so complex that United can't deal with it, then why does it seem like Brighton is about to complete the deal?

Too bad though, Caicedo looked like the right type of player - even though it is hard to know if he would realise his potential or not.

Totally reasonable to me. Brighton might want to bend over backwards and sign some sort of continuing part ownership deal ala Tevez / WHU or pay out large amounts to all the different parties who seem to have an interest in him. We're big enough to not put up with agent BS and simply walk away instead.
 
Said it a while back , never convinced the Utd & Chelsea rumours were genuine. This whole mess of reps, agents and whatever, just seems like a spin by journos because they have been prven wrong.

Brighton didnt seem to have any issues with dealing with his reps and what not.....
