Looks suspiciously like our name is just being used to drum up the subsequent interest

I mean if he's highly rated as the South American experts deem him to be, then surely he'll be snapped up by us if we really are in for him. He won't go to another PL club if he's a United fan, as he must know how difficult it will eventually be for him to transfer to us from another English club. The United-PL tax will be too damn high.

Hopefully it's media-folk trying to make more of a story out of it while the paperwork takes as long as that South American "ITK" says it would take. If true, then it sounds as if we'll see some progress at the end of next week.

That's the key here: outside of the United journalists as well as the MLS one, no other reliable non-Ecuadorian journalists have reported on Caicedo. We're definitely in for him, but I can't say the same for every other club. Atlanta United might be the only other club, but I'd say that we're further ahead of them.

Caicedo will move to the Premier League, but not to United.

The follow-up Tweet indicates that neither Chelsea nor West Ham are the club that agreed with IDV. That only leaves Everton, but if they've agreed with IDV, then Paul Joyce would've been all over that. The fact that I haven't seen anything from any Everton-associated reliable journalist makes me reluctant to say that it's Everton.

Damn it looks like we are going to miss out on him and to a rival PL club which makes it worse, had hoped that talk of other clubs interest would push us to get it done like we saw with both Bruno & Donny

I don't think Prem clubs can legally own only 70% of a player's rights after the Mascherano/Tevez scandal so that West Ham one is bollocks for a start.

The Utd journalists have been very consistent that while the club likes him and have held talks, it hasn't progressed beyond that. Unlike what was the case re Diallo and Pellistri, where the interest was much more pronounced.

I'm very surprised that this thread has reached as far as it has considering how sketchy the reports have been. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the fact that a supposed journalist who at the time of the first reports had less than 2,000 followers has been the go to person in this story has had my alarm bells ringing from the outset.

Guessing its just another way of saying sell on clause.

This one's on me lads, shouldn't have watched the highlight compilation.

we might just want to wait until he proves himself in the league then snap him up, no big deal.

if he really wants to play for us then it’ll happen.

Never got the sense we were keen on this one - more us being used to ramp up interest/BS ITKs trying to apply our name to something for the clicks

If he's sold to someone in this country we'd end up paying a ridiculous fee if ends up being a star, when we could have got him for peanuts. It's poor business really.

I love the wall-to-wall #MUFC hashtags in tweets saying United are not involved in this transfer. If we're not in for the player maybe stop tagging us lads?

Will go to Everton, be good and someone will have to fork out at least £50m for him. You just need to take the plunge with players like this right now and not wait.

Yep. It's what we seem to be doing lately, which is why this lad fitted the bill. Thought we'd learnt its worth a cheap punt, its low risk high reward.

Commiserations to those who got so invested in this and read various scouting reports and watched full Ecuador games for nothing

All I can think is he wanted a certain amount of game time promised, or the structure of the deal with the agents we didn’t like. Probably a sell on clause etc.

either that or the United scouts just didn’t think he was as good as we expect?

Good. Maybe look at someone ready for the first team lads?!

Fingers crossed for Rice.

Haha. Presenting these things as a United story probably got him his move to Europe and his entourage 10m more in the process. That being said, I did watch some highlights and from those he looks super promising, so it's a shame he's going to West Ham or wherever..
